GREG FINISHED GETTING READY and quickly headed to the Bureau, he had many questions on his mind.
— Good morning, Greg! — Breanne said when she saw him arrive.
— Good morning, is everything okay here? — she asked as she hurriedly walked to her desk.
— Wow! What's the rush?
— Questions, Breanne. Questions!
The detective soon found his friend, Martin, and asked:
— Do you know anything about the news this morning?
— I don't... What happened?
— What's this story about the guy being a radical and the CIA already investigating his family and his mother... his mother doesn't even speak our language!
Martin didn't understand what he was saying, he just stared at him, scared.
Greg continued:
— Yesterday I was there during the interrogation, none of that was said. I saw when the family left. Everything smells very strange...
— Well, what can I say... you're the one who's there, Peter, I can't help you. — Martin replied, in a soft and compassionate voice.
— And the computer? We still haven't had anything in our hands that shows what was on it!
— That's true... — mused his partner.
— We're at the center of the investigation and none of this has been passed on to us!
While Greg was speaking, without anyone expecting it, Floyd Kenagan appeared at the door. Everyone immediately fell silent.
After him, another man came in, a little older, it was none other than Belamy Noland, the country's Attorney General.
Everyone trembled before the authority present.
— Gentlemen, — Kenagan said, — this is Attorney General Belamy Noland.
The man entered with a serious expression and observed each one present. As if feeding on the reverent atmosphere in the room, he said:
— Good morning, everyone.
No one hesitated to answer.
— Sir, this is Agent Gregory Evans, the main person responsible for our success with the investigations. — said Floyd Kenagan, gesturing with his hand.
The man walked up to him and shook his hand, saying:
— Congratulations, once again, Mr. Evans, your appointment to the FBI was a great success, the President thinks highly of you. You have provided us with a great advance in the investigations.
— With pleasure, sir. — he replied, embarrassed.
— I will be keeping an eye on you. — said the man, in a somewhat humorous tone.
Everyone laughed, more out of embarrassment than because they shared any humor in the situation. Gregory Evans tried to take advantage of the opportunity to secure access to the information that was obscure:
— Sir, we are working hard on this investigation, but we could be more successful if some policies were changed. We would like to have greater access to the evidence and information available on the case.
Belamy was thoughtful, but before he said anything, Floyd Kenagan stepped forward:
— You can rest assured, you will have access to all the information, I will be taking care of it myself.
Greg was not content with asking, he had to be incisive, not only did he request, but at times he would commit the abuse of provoking the authorities:
— I would like to investigate the boy's computer, but as I have already verified, it is not among the evidence. — Gregory Evans instigated him.
— He is in D.C. — Floyd Kenagan replied, clearly annoyed by the agent's questions.
— I see...
Belamy left the room, followed by Floyd Kenagan. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
— What was that? — Breanne asked, astonished. — Didn't you notice Mr. Kenagan's irritation?
— I didn't know he was here... — Martin said, referring to the Attorney General.
— I know... Breanne. — Greg replied — But something is very strange about this whole story... and I will certainly find out what is going on here.
