Chereads / THE SECRET PACT / Chapter 25 - CHAPTER 24

Chapter 25 - CHAPTER 24

GREGORY EVANS WAS DECIDED to follow his instincts and investigate those suspicions, even if he didn't have the support of his superiors. Nothing made him more excited than a mystery in his mind, especially something so strange. Given the circumstances, he concluded that the investigation would have to be conducted in secret, which would make everything more complicated, since he had never done anything in secret in the office.

He sat at his desk and began to think of incredible things that could provide some explanation for the incongruity of the facts. While he was pondering the most incredible theories, a delicious smell came to him, capturing his attention completely.

— A freshly brewed cup of coffee!" Breanne said, bringing a cup of steaming coffee.

— Oh! Breanne, if I survive this case, I'll arrange a marriage for you! — he replied, extending his hand to receive the drink.

She made as if she was going to hand it over, but she turned her arm back and said:

— Sorry, Greg, but I want to marry a handsome man like you...

— You know my brother is a priest, and I'm already married, so you'll have to lower your standards.

They both laughed.

— What would I be here without you... — he said, smiling affectionately at her.

AFTER RECEIVING HIS BLACK OPIUM, he turned to his desk, looking for a private place to work. He lifted the screen of his notebook and turned it on. Where would he start?

He began his research by connecting to the Bureau's own system. Accessing something similar to an advanced Intranet, he tried to identify the FBI agents who had interrogated young Fadiq's parents. He couldn't find anything about them, no records, dates of entry or any information that would lead to one of the supposed agents.

These guys are from the secret service... — He thought.

He spent almost an hour clicking, typing and taking notes, until he thought of trying to contact the Al Faruj family. Very wisely, he pretended that he had to do something outside and left.
