Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Corpses Blocking the Road

A hand, pale and bloodless, appeared on the window, its skin a deathly grayish-blue.

"Where did that hand come from?"

Liu Fugui jumped in fright, pointing at the window with a trembling finger.

Lu Fei tightened his grip on the willow whip.

Tiger grabbed the ghost-head blade from the passenger seat.

  *Thud!*

Another grayish-blue hand slammed against the car window.

Two hands slowly climbed upward, followed by a ghastly pale corpse face pressed against the glass. Its gray, lifeless eyes stared intently at the occupants inside.

  "Oh my god, a ghost!"

  Liu Fugui shouted in terror.

"That's not a ghost—it's a corpse!" Lu Fei said coolly. "The master of the head has come for us!"

Controlling corpses was a classic technique used by corpse raisers.

It had to be the head's master coming for revenge!

Tiger broke into a cold sweat.

If he had gotten out to check earlier, he would have been ambushed by the corpses.

Before they could react, another grayish-blue corpse appeared at the other window.

  *Bang, bang, bang!*

The corpses pounded on the windows, their hands as hard as frozen iron, causing the glass to tremble and crack.

Fortunately, Liu Fugui's business car was well-made, so the glass didn't shatter immediately, but it wouldn't hold for long.

"Tiger, don't worry about them, just go! They won't follow us to crowded places!" Lu Fei shouted.

Through the window, he saw more grayish-blue figures stiffly making their way toward the car from both sides of the road.

  So many corpses!

If each one was as tough as iron, fighting them would be impossible.

A faint, eerie wailing sound could be heard if one listened closely, like a haunting instrument playing in the distance.

This was how the corpse raiser controlled their minions!

Liu Fugui turned pale, thinking the crisis was over after dealing with the head, only to face an even bigger threat.

  "Hold on!"

Tiger shifted gears, pressing down on the gas pedal.

The car roared forward, jolting as it ran over obstacles.

Tiger focused on steering, the gas pedal pushed to its limit.

There were a few grayish-blue figures in the road ahead, their grotesque faces illuminated by the headlights.

"Plow through them!" Lu Fei shouted, holding onto the handle tightly and staring ahead.

They weren't alive—no need to be polite.

  "Got it!"

Tiger clenched his jaw and drove straight into them.

  *Thud, thump, bang!*

The car jolted violently as it plowed through, sending the corpses flying like bowling pins. The vehicle swerved, but Tiger quickly corrected it and kept speeding forward.

  "My car!"

Liu Fugui clutched the handle, a look of agony on his face.

"Now's not the time to worry about that!" Lu Fei snapped, looking at the car's rearview mirror.

The grayish-blue corpses struggled to their feet, staggering in pursuit.

These animated corpses were already at the level of ghouls!

But they couldn't match the car's speed. Soon, the gray figures faded into the distance and disappeared from view.

Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

While strange and formidable, these ghouls couldn't keep up with the car, making escape possible.

"Looks like we've really made an enemy," Lu Fei glanced at Liu Fugui. "You didn't tell Xiaomei your identity or address, did you?"

Liu Fugui's face turned ghostly pale, and he stammered, "I... I told her I was the owner of an antique shop on Guwan Street..."

"You're in trouble! The master of the head will definitely come looking for you!" Lu Fei said with a sigh. "These necromancers are notorious for holding grudges; they won't let this go."

"What do we do now?" Liu Fugui looked as if he was about to cry. He thought he had narrowly escaped death, only to face even bigger trouble.

"Brother Lu, we've been through life and death together. You can't leave me to face this alone."

Did he even need to say that?

Lu Fei had destroyed the head, so any retaliation would involve all of them.

"Don't panic. Once we're back on Guwan Street, we're on home turf. There, we make the rules," Lu Fei reassured him.

"I'll stay with you guys for now," Liu Fugui said, feeling slightly more at ease. Until the danger was over, he planned to stick close to Lu Fei.

  *Thud!*

Suddenly, the front windshield was struck hard.

An upside-down grayish-blue face appeared from above the roof.

  Another ghoul!

Caught off guard, Tiger flinched, losing his grip on the steering wheel. The speeding car veered dangerously toward the roadside barrier.

The jolt threw Lu Fei and Liu Fugui sideways.

  *Screech!*

Tiger struggled to regain control, stomping on the brake and yanking the wheel to steady the car.

  *Thud, thud, thud!*

The ghoul on the roof continued to pound its head against the windshield, spider-webbing the glass.

  "Tiger!"

The windshield was close to shattering, putting Tiger at risk.

Lu Fei unbuckled his seatbelt and clambered into the front, one hand holding the handle and the other gripping the willow whip, eyes fixed on the ghoul outside.

  *Crack!*

The window splintered, shards of glass and wind rushing in.

The ghoul crouched by the window, reaching out with rigid hands toward Tiger.

Tiger was too focused on keeping the car steady to defend himself.

  "Get back!"

Lu Fei infused the whip with energy, striking the ghoul's hand.

The strike left a charred mark, but the ghoul felt no pain, only pausing momentarily.

  "Damn, corpses don't feel pain!"

Realizing the whip wouldn't be enough, Lu Fei grabbed the ghost-head blade from under the seat and thrust it at the ghoul.

  *Clang!*

The blade struck with a metallic clang.

The ghoul's body was tough, resisting the blade, but it acted as a blunt weapon.

The ghoul leaned back from the impact.

  "It worked!"

Lu Fei leaned forward, bracing himself on the dashboard, pushing the ghoul off the car with all his strength.

With the car's erratic movements, the ghoul finally tumbled off the hood.

  *Thump!*

The wheels ran over it with a loud noise.

The car shook violently but finally straightened out.

  "Go, don't stop!"

Lu Fei wasn't sure if more were coming and urged Tiger to keep driving.

Tiger restarted the car and swerved around the fallen ghoul, speeding ahead.

  The car creaked and groaned.

Wind rushed through the shattered window, making it hard to keep their eyes open.

  They raced down the road.

Finally, before the car completely broke down, the bright lights of the city and other vehicles appeared.

  "We're safe."

Lu Fei and Tiger both exhaled.

Though they were safe for now, Liu Fugui's face was still pale with dread, on the verge of tears.

  "My car..."

"Come on, Liu, be glad you're still breathing!"

Lu Fei glanced back at him. "That necromancer chasing us—it's not just for revenge. Did you take anything?"
