Chapter 20 - Yingsu: The world is not friendly to me

Ye Chenfeng observed Yingsu thoughtfully. In this magical age, people with remarkable gifts are born, each with distinct innate talents that define their magical capabilities. These talents generally fall into three categories.

The first type is exclusive talent, where an individual excels in a single magic system, while remaining unremarkable in others. The second is universal talent, which can span across different areas—ranging from stellar powers to the release of multiple magic systems, often covering vast scopes like natural dual systems or reversed common systems. The third, however, includes the victims, whose abilities are immense but hard to control, making them prone to uncontrollable bursts that impact everyone around them. Though their power and growth rates are almost unmatched before reaching the super level, they remain dangerous until they can fully harness their strength.

Ye Chenfeng recalled a few prominent victims: Qin Yuer, who broke through to a super-class magician by nineteen, even surpassing the renowned Mo Fan, who didn't reach super level until 23. Another was Ding Yumin, an extraordinary white magician. Now, there was Yingsu, a black magician. Her potential could prove useful, though he already planned to keep her under strict watch.

"You must be a black magician," Ye Chenfeng remarked to Yingsu.

"Eh? Brother Nei, do you… feel nothing when you're near me?" Yingsu tilted her head, looking up at him with wide eyes.

"What?" Ye Chenfeng blinked, surprised by her question.

"You don't feel sick or want to throw up? No numbness?" she asked cautiously, watching him with anxious eyes.

"Oh, that's what you meant? No, my talent is rather unique—it keeps me unaffected," Ye Chenfeng replied.

"Oh~ I see," Yingsu's face brightened with relief, a soft smile replacing her worry.

"By the way, do you have a place to go? Why not join me?" Ye Chenfeng suggested, aiming to recruit her.

"Really? I, uh…" Yingsu seemed bewildered by her luck, internally debating her response. She was eager to say yes.

Ye Chenfeng watched her with a knowing smile. Whether she agreed or not, he already considered her in his grasp.

"But, your friends… they don't seem to like me much," Yingsu said hesitantly.

"Don't mind them. They're just hired help; what matters is your decision," he reassured her.

"Really?" Her eyes sparkled with anticipation.

"Of course," he said confidently, sensing she'd taken the bait.

"Oh, speaking of magic, what level are you at now?" Ye Chenfeng asked, glancing back at her with a kindly smile.

"Me? I just broke through to the advanced level!" Yingsu said, her expression beaming with excitement.

Ye Chenfeng felt momentarily stunned. Advanced level? At her age? He tried to keep his surprise in check, realizing she was no ordinary talent.

The realization of her rapid progression left him pondering. Victims like her usually possess innate soul seeds—unique and powerful magical sources that often spiral out of their control, posing catastrophic risks. Such people are often closely monitored by the Holy Court, the highest magical organization, which bans those who present extreme dangers to society. And yet, here was Yingsu, a black magician who seemed blissfully unconcerned about her own powers.

"By the way," Ye Chenfeng began, his tone serious, "are you aware you're special? You're what we call a 'victim.'"

"Victim?" Yingsu repeated, her expression blank. It didn't sound like a term she wanted to embrace.

Watching her little face shift from confusion to displeasure, and finally to a pout as her eyes brimmed with tears, Ye Chenfeng felt utterly bewildered. What did I say to make her cry?

He could only stare in confusion, trying to understand the sudden change in her expression. I just asked a question! Why the tears?
