Chapter 23 - Just In Time

As Ye Chenfeng entered the stadium, he noticed a pair of scarlet eyes looming above him. A banshee lunged at him, but her attack came to a sudden halt, as if hitting an invisible wall.

"Think you're worthy of fighting a space mage up close?" he taunted. He prepared to tear the demon apart with his telekinetic claws but stopped, cooling his bloodlust. He realized the banshee had a human form beneath her monstrous exterior. Switching tactics, he cast a beam of light that ignited in a purifying blaze against her decaying flesh. Yet, it wasn't enough to bring her down.

Throwing two more rays of light, Ye Chenfeng finally saw the banshee's scales rot away. Beneath them lay a fragile young girl who collapsed to the ground, whispering, "Water… please."

With a sigh, he glanced around and spotted a vending machine. A quick tug with his magic cracked it open, scattering bottles across the floor. He handed one to the girl, even unscrewing the cap. She's so weak, he thought, feeling a momentary surge of compassion as he watched her gulp down the water. Stuffing a few more bottles beside her, he told her to drink slowly, already eager to move on. She asked for clothing, but his current attire—a long shirt and knee-length shorts—was all he had, and he wasn't about to fight demons in his underwear.

Ignoring her plea, he vanished into the shadows, navigating his way to the gym's other side. With a blast of fiery magic, he shattered the ceiling and rocketed outside, sneaking along the building's outer wall to reach the stage.

Outside, a man stood atop a massive blue beast, observing the flames rising within the stadium. "Impressive magic power—seems like a strong mage in there," he remarked. Beside him, a young girl named Lingling studied her tablet, recognizing the figure on the screen.

"That's our team's street punk," she muttered.

"He seems strong enough. Maybe he can handle the scaly-skinned demoness," the man beside her suggested.

Their department head, Zhou Zhenghua, appeared and recognized the boy. "Ye Chenfeng? Absolutely. He's a dual-system mage at an elite level, close to advancing further. He'll manage."

Lingling pulled out her phone but, realizing she didn't have his number, looked around helplessly. The man in the leather jacket shook his head with exasperation.

Within the stadium, Ye Chenfeng had entered the concert square where a massive crowd awaited their idol. He assessed the chaos below, muttering, I made it just in time. As he scanned the scene, he spotted the girl preparing backstage, surrounded by people fussing over her attire and makeup. She looked every bit the protagonist of the day.

While he appeared reckless, he had a plan. His space magic, though at an early stage, held explosive potential. He was ready to capture and crush the demon in three quick steps: locate it, trap it with his virtual claws, and crush it with his magic.

Just then, a staff member tried to stop him, calling out, "Sir! Please stay!" But as the staff member neared him, they slammed into an invisible wall, unable to take another step.
