As they pulled up to Emily's house, Axel shut off the engine and turned to her. "You're different, Emily. Most girls would've freaked out on that ride."
Emily's cheeks flushed. "I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone."
Axel's eyes crinkled at the corners. "I like that."
Emily's heart skipped a beat. Was Axel flirting with her?
As they said their goodbyes, Emily's parents watched from the window, their expressions disapproving.
"Emily, who was that?" her mother asked, concern etched on her face.
" Axel Jackson," Emily replied, trying to sound casual.
Her father frowned. "Stay away from him, Emily. He's trouble."
Emily nodded, but her mind whirled with thoughts of Axel.
That night, Emily couldn't sleep. She kept replaying their ride and Axel's words.
Why was she drawn to someone so different from her?
The next day, Emily and Axel crossed paths in the school hallway.
"Hey, Perfect Girl," Axel said, his voice low.
Emily smiled. "Hey, Rebel Boy."
Axel chuckled. "You're getting closer to understanding me."
As they talked, Emily realized their differences weren't weaknesses, but strengths.
"Want to grab lunch together?" Axel asked.
Emily hesitated, knowing her parents' disapproval.
But Axel's piercing gaze won her over.
"Okay," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
