"I'm late. I'm late. I'm late..." Ethan kept murmuring to himself as he ran to school. Today was the day the first year students were supposed to perform their "Lexicon ritual" The Lexicon ritual was the new way through which the sorcerers were able to create he personal Lexicons. It was a yearly event which was performed in he school.
With all his strength, desperately by sheer willpower Ethan was able to get to the school and rushed towards the school's assembly hall. It was the place where the ritual was going to be held. Immediately Ethan entered, he shouted "Please, wait I'm here!" Everyone turned to look at the person speaking. "If not Ethan who will be this late." Madam Bailey said harsh tone. "Hurry up and join your colleagues." Another teacher said rather calmly but in his heart he never wished to have spoken to Ethan calmly. Ethan ran and joined the rest of he first year students who sat in a huge magic circle with weird inscriptions in it.
"Let's proceed." Gareth Thorne, the teacher who told Ethan to join his colleague said to the other teachers. Quickly, the other twenty four teachers who were with him stood in some spaces around the magic circle and prepared to start the Lexicon ritual. "We begin." Sir Gareth said. All the twenty five teachers started reciting some strange words which not even the brainiacs of the first year students could understand. Two minutes later, the teachers kept quiet and instantly the magic circle in which the students sat, started glowing brightly in a shiny and golden colour. "What's this?" Some of the students questioned in amazement of what they saw.
"It's now your time to shine. Bring out the best of your abilities." Gareth shouted to encourage the students. "Close your eyes and try visualising all what you had interest in. Not everything that has been imagined will manifest but remember your power will always be unique from everyone's even if it was to be perhaps of the same element." Gareth motivated them more. All the students heeded his advice and closed their eyes including Ethan.
After thirty minutes of struggle, the first student started awakening his lexicon. As some sort of red wave started flowing out of his body, slowly, like fragments of light coming together a lexicon manifested before him. There was a hand drawn picture of a fire dragon on it which also glowed red like the waves that flowed out of his body. "This batch of students seems more promising." The words were barely out of madam Bailey's mouth when for a brief moment, the second student awakened his lexicon. A star appeared on his forehead for a brief moment of time and hen disappeared again.
"Incredible, he got the ability to tap into the of the stars." Gareth murmured. One by one the other students started awakening their lexicons. After two full hours, everyone had gotten out of the magic circle leaving only Ethan in it. "Yeah, yeah. Not everyone is destined to have a lexicon." Madam Bailey said mockingly. "Try harder, try harder, I must harder. I'm going to be successful." Ethan motivated himself but still wasn't able awaken his lexicon after an additional twenty minutes period. "I'm exhausted of my lexicon energy." Madam Bailey said and got out of the space she stood in. One by one the other teachers also started getting out of their spaces finally leaving only Shawn who managed to controlled all the other twenty four spaces with his lexicon energy.
"He should just give up he can't make it." A teacher said. Shawn was clearly pissed by how the teachers were trying to discourage Ethan but still kept his cool. "Don't worry Ethan. I'll keep on sustaining this magic circle till you succeed." Shawn said to himself. "Look at Shawn also wasting all his lexicon energy on such a junk." Madam Bailey said barely audible to the people around her. Finally, Ethan gave up and opened his eyes to see but was shocked at what was happening. Two hours more had passed since Shawn started sustaining the magic circle with his lexicon energy and still Ethan hadn't succeeded.
"So you rather gave." Shawn said to Ethan who had started walking to him. "It was obvious that he would never awaken his lexicon." Madam Bailey said to everyone's hearing that everyone started mocking Ethan. Halfway to reaching outside of the magic circle, Shawn also left the space to meet Ethan but immediately Ethan passed before he could get out of the circle. "This is strange." Shawn said and instantly went back to his space using all of his lexicon energy he had to sustain the magic circle again.
Clank! Clank! Clank!
Ethan heard the sound of two metals hitting each other. He turned but there was nothing there to be seen. "Hello!" Ethan called thinking someone would respond to his voice. Immediately, Ethan looked forward again but got scared immediately when he saw what was Infront of him. It was as if the lightning in front of him was meant to hit him but time had paused it. He looked back as heard the sound of crackling ice behind him. The ground was freezing towards him but it had also been paused by time. "What is this?" Ethan asked himself. He turned to his right side and also saw a lightning single edged sword levitating. On his left side, a bow and arrow also cleanly crafted out of ice also levitated. "What does this mean?" Ethan asked himself and got up from his sitting position but instantly saw himself in the real world again.
"What was that? Was it just a dream?" Ethan continued questioning himself and finally got out of the magic circle feeling dizzy still without an awakened lexicon and not knowing all what happened to him was in splits seconds. Shawn had barely sat down when Ethan also got out of the magic circle. Shawn also ran to his side to sympathise with him. But immediately when he touched Ethan he felt like he had been frozen and electrocuted at the same time but ignored it so as not to bring any attention to him. "Don't worry everything happens for a purpose." Shawn reassured Ethan.
"But why isn't the magic circle disappearing?" Shawn asked himself in mystery as this had never happened after any lexicon ritual in the school before. "Why isn't he magic circle disappearing?" He other teachers also questioned themselves. After every lexicon ritual after the last person leaves the magic circle, it was supposed to disappear at once but that wasn't what was happening at the moment. Without looking at what was happening around him, Ethan told himself. "I guess I'm actually not destined to have a lexicon."
