Chereads / JUST THAT BREAK / Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE

Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE

Emi and I faced each other, we looked confused and our gaze went back to them. Their expression was the same, surprised and confused.

"Three two one! You can all start!" The other man announced.

Other groups were cooperating and they were discussing how to go about the competition. I didn't expect us to be doing competition, it felt like I was in a school trip. If you need break, you will have to engage in some fun activities.

"I have an idea." Emi voice was cheerful.

I didn't bother making eye contact with Henry, I was just too embarrassed. I couldn't even believe I was also seeing Justin, the annoying dude that lacks manners. I wondered what made Emi go crazy over him, his looks?

"Why don't we group ourselves into two groups. That way, it would be easier to find it." Her voice was still the same and she seemed like she was a competitive person.

"Okay? I guess?" I said without certainity.

The boys were just quiet and they avoided eye contact from us.

"Okay fine!" Justin had a huge frown and it seemed like he didn't want to participate in this shit.

"Why don't we do it two boys and two girls." Henry charming and deep voice ranged into my hears.

"No!" Emi screamed, startling everyone.

"Why?!" I disapproved, still startled.

"If we do the same gender, I don't think we would win." She was giving us a fake smile.

I just rolled my eyes at her. I completely understood, her plan was going to get ruined.

"How about_ Justin and I go, then the two of you." She went to the middle of the boys and her gaze was focused at Justin.

"Wh..." She widened her eyes at me, making me to shut up. "Okay let's do that!"

"Yes, let's go Justin." She faced Justin and she had that pretty smile.

"That doesn't sound like a good idea." Henry disagreed and he had a serious face.

"Let's just do that." To our surprise, Justin agreed with it. "Shall we?" He faced Emi and his voice became deeper.

The two of them left and I was left with the two of us. I made sure I avoided eye contact and my eyes were focused at the ground.

"I am really not interested in this competition," he sounded rude and uninterested, I could already tell what his facial expression was. "So let's just climb the mountains and come back."

"Okay." My voice was soft and calm.

I slowly moved my gaze to him. I stared at him unknowingly, he was like a goddest, extremely handsome.

"Shall we go?" He snapped his right fingers in the air, snapping me from my thoughts.

My brain immediately reset, I didn't even understand why I stared at him.

"Yes let's go." My voice was soft and I talked weirdly.

He squeezed his brows in confusion, he sighed deeply and he shook his head. He started walking towards the mountain, leaving me.

"Wait for me!" I ran behind him.

EMINENT

I couldn't believe I was walking side by side with Justin. I was literally standing by his right! There was silence everywhere and we were facing front, walking tirelessly. I was so tired from walking up this mountain. Nither of us were even looking for it. My only confusion was why he had agreed to split into girls and boys. Was he falling in love with me?

We continued walking and no one talked. We reached the cliff of the mountain, after a long severe walk. I stared down and I saw how deep it was, about 100ft below. I was definitely not scared of heights and he didn't seem scared either.

"Do you know why I had agreed to follow you?" His deep reluctant voice broke the silence.

He looked at me and I also faced him, our eyes facing opposite each other.

"I don't like to beat around the bush." He bought out the paper from his pocket and he passed it to me, "here."

I surprisingly looked at the paper and I stared at him. I smiled and I chuckled.

"I'm sorry but I cannot accept your rejection." I chuckled again.

I stared at him and his looks were as expected, he looked so confused.

"You can't reject me without knowing me. Know me first, then, you can think of rejecting me." I smiled at him but I was the most nervous person.

He looked at me and he was lost of words. He blinked twice at me and he was surprised.

He sighed and he gave his relectant face, and removing his gaze from me. He brought out a pack of cigarettes, took one stick and he placed it in his mouth and he put the pack in his pocket. He bought lighter from the other pocket and he pressed it, making little fire to show. He put the fire at the tip of the cigarette. He sucked it in, and he exhaled smoke out of it.

"You don't know me well. I am a bad boy." He exhaled smoke again and he wore a nonchalant look.

I looked at him awkwardly and he looked at me, with the cigarette in his mouth.

"Ufff that was so cringy." I still stared at him awkwardly.

He looked at me, a little embarrassed. He picked the cigarette and he threw it to the ground. He faced front and he probably felt so embarrassed.

I smiled and I looked at the beautiful view in front of us.

"I graduated as a nurse last year, when I was twenty. I never wanted to study it, but my mom forced me." I paused and I waited for him to ask why, but no response. "I wanted to become an actress."

He finally looked at me with surprise. It was so obvious he was curious to ask. He just faced front again.

"My mom owns a very big hospital, I am meant to start working there currently but I ran away. I never saw hope in my life and I wanted to leave this place four months ago."

He still looked curious but he just had this ego in him.

I didn't bother, I continued, "I didn't leave because, I saw you coming for the first time and I finally found something to keep me going."

I cleared my throat and I just faced front. The silence made me to feel stupid. I had regrets for talking.

"Why did you just tell me?" His voice was deep and he spoke calmly.

"Well," I faced him, "as a nursing student, I advice that you reduce your consumption of cigarettes, it has an adverse effect."

The silence became thicker and I was starting to regret talking. I exhaled deeply and I was so short of words.

"Let's go back." He said and he didn't look at me.

"Okay." My voice became calm and soft.

He turned and he was about moving, when his leg slipped and he was about falling.

"Argh!" He screamed in fear.

I dragged his top and I threw him to the ground. "Are you okay?" We were both in a state of shock.

He was on the ground, panting heavily. He managed and stood and we faced opposite each other.

For some reason, he held me by my waist, dragged my body to him tightly. My heart started pounding and I widened my eyes in shock.

"What are you doing?!" I asked in shock and a little surprised.

I widened my eyes at him and I stared at him, with great surprise.

"You could have slipped and fallen down for real." His voice sounded like music to my ears.

I graciously looked at him and he stared at me too.

"We can go now." He said calmly.
