Anna hurried toward William's study. With Rowan back at her estate and fully recovered from her injuries, there was no more time to waste. She had work to do.
She had not seen much of William lately and she could not tell if he was merely avoiding her or if his valet had told him anything.
Upon reaching the study, she found the door locked. Frustrated, she headed to William's chambers to retrieve the key, as her papers—including important documents concerning her estate that Rowan had sent her—were left inside.
Before she could knock, the door opened, and Alfred, William's valet, stepped out.
"Lady Anna," he greeted with a slight bow.
"Is William here?" Anna asked, avoiding his gaze. The memory of what he had witnessed still filled her with embarrassment.
"He is in the garden, ma'am. Do you require anything?" Alfred inquired politely.
