DAISY POV
I stared at my phone in confusion. What was Declan talking about? My dogs? I had no dogs neither did Stefan.
I called Declan back, he refused to pick up. I called him three more times and he didn't pick the call.
I texted him to pick up the call. At last, he picked up the call.
"What are you talking about?" I asked him.
"Like I said, call your dogs off," he repeated.
"What dogs are you talking about?" I asked in frustration.
"Ask Stefan, he would explain better. By the way, I won't be able to make it to court today since your man is playing games with my stocks" he told me and then he hung up the call.
I stared at the phone even more confused, what games was Declan talking about?
I called Zara into the office.
"Yes ma'am, you called for me" she said as she entered the office.
"Can you help me find out what's going on in Declan's companies? About his stocks?" I requested.
She looked surprised at my request.
"Any particular reason?" she asked.
"Nothing you need to bother about Zara, just get the information for me" I told her.
"Yes ma'am" she replied and left my office.
I couldn't focus on work, I was a worried mess. What was Declan's problem now? Was he just making a fuss out of nothing just so he could back out of the divorce?
But why was he insistent on saying I was his wife and delaying the divorce? After all he had done to me and insisted I did to him?
The memories of everything he had done brought tears to my eyes. I cleaned them away immediately, Declan deserved none of my tears. I sat back in my chair and relaxed as I waited for Zara.
After a while Zara came back.
"Yes, what did you find?" I asked her.
"Declan's stocks went down this morning, things are bad for him, his investors have been panicking about the state of the company's affairs" Zara reported.
"What brought the stocks down so suddenly?" I enquired.
"The Helios group brought their stocks down at a very low price this morning and it affected Mr Declan," Zara replied.
I sighed, no wonder Declan was so pissed off.
"Thank you Zara," I told her with my best attempt at a smile.
"You are welcome."
"You may go," I told her. She nodded and left.
I held my head in my hand and groaned. I had nothing to do with this matter, but knowing Declan, he probably wouldn't believe it.
I dialled his number again, it didn't hurt to try.
He picked up the call.
"Yes," he said in an unfriendly tone.
"I just got the information on what happened to your stocks" I told him.
"So did you call me to gloat?" he asked, his tone sharp.
I rolled my eyes at his question.
"I had nothing to do with what happened to your stocks."
"And you expect me to believe you? Your man Stefan must really like you to go after my company while putting the Helios group at risk," he argued.
"I don't care if you believe me or not, I had nothing to do with it, it might be shocking to you but I do not have that much control over Stefan" I told him.
"Whatever, I won't be able to make it to the court today, I have a lot of things to attend to" he told me.
"Fine, I will reschedule another date" I told him and hung up the call.
I sigh as I put down my phone. Knowing Declan and how he felt about his company, he would be so worried right now.
A part of me wants to tell my brothers to stop and leave his company alone. But when I think about everything, all the humiliation and pain Declan had put me through, I change my mind.
I open my computer and see an email from Silvan, telling me that his firm is willing to work with me for one year free.
Silvan's firm is one of the best firms in the country and I know working with him would benefit me greatly, but I wanted to maintain a boundary with Silvan.
I had no intention of pursuing a romantic relationship with him. I just wanted to take care of my children and live a happy life.
Working with Silvan's firm would mean that I would need to be in close contact with him and this might blur some of the lines and boundaries I wanted to put in place.
I closed the email and got back to work. I had a lot of work to do and the earlier I did them so I could go back home to my children, the better.
I had worked for a while and was beginning to feel hungry. I called Zara to get me lunch.
After some minutes, Zara came in with the food.
"So soon?" I asked her, surprised.
"I knew you would be hungry soon so I ordered the food even before you called me" she replied as she cleared my table and set the food down.
I looked up at her, gratefulness shining in my eyes.
"You are a godsend Zara" I beamed at her.
"Thank you."
I started eating the food. I was so hungry that I was practically inhaling the food.
"Calm down, so you don't choke," Zara advised.
I nodded and tried to slow down.
"What's the situation now with Declan's company?" I asked her.
"The stocks are still down but he seems to be getting it under control" she replied.
"Good for him," I replied.
"Why are you bothered about his company ma'am? You didn't seem to like him when you met him previously?" Zara asked curiously.
"Well, we are doing a partnership with him and if his company is being affected, it affects us too" I answered her.
"I see". She nodded in understanding.
My phone rang, it was my mom.
"Hello mom" I said as I picked up the call.
"Quick Daisy, come to the hospital, Rhea has been in an accident" she told me.
I could feel my heart drop to my stomach as I heard the news.
