Chapter 7 - A Startling Morning

Eating fresh pancakes with premium butter is a must. Then wash it down with a warm sip of chocolate.

Marlena kept on with the culinary demonstration.

She obviously liked every bite of her food. And she was much more interesting and entertaining than the other food show I had seen, even if you account for her looks.

Wesley was about to snap.

"Fine," Taffy wagged its tail, and leapt on the dining table.

He went to the cupboard, I guessed the cat had to be hungry. He returned with a plate of canned cat food and put it in front of Taffy.

Taffy sniffed it for a minute, then looked away. It cast one longing eye on Marlena.

The man looked uncomfortable.

She didn't laugh and took a tiny bite of the cinnamon bun, then shared a little with the kitten. It gobbled it up.

Good cat.

She patted the cat on its head softly. "You sure know how to pick them better than your owner!" she thought.

Wesley felt a stir of embarrassment. The cat had bitten into the churros, then taken two more bites out of the cinnamon bun. The man frowned. "You."

Taking the opportunity, Marlena pushed a churros into his mouth.

A glare of anger flew over his face. The cinnamon sugar coated sweet crusted churros, crunchy on the outside, dissolved on his tongue as he was about to release it.

He started chewing on the thick dough out of reflex. The outside was crunchy and the inside still warm and soft. It was delicious.

He must have had churros before. The Eldred household cooks could make anything, but - this tasted better.

Churros she made, somehow, made milk taste more creamy but not artificial, we all must agree.

Is it nice? Marlena asked with both hands cupped over her chin. She cooked confidently.

The light went from his eyes, when he seen the smug arrogance on her face.

"Its ok,"

He grabbed up another churro and kept eating after that. He had not really tasted its flavor from he little mouthful he had earlier taken.

She gave a flirtatious wink. "Didn't you say everything was okay?"

"You can't possibly eat all that." The man spoke calmly. "I hate to see food go to waste."

She was about to reply when he scowled, "Don't talk with your mouth full."

Marlena had never seen someone so obviously self-centered in her life, she literally gasped.

He had announced flatly that he didn't care for sweet things at breakfast; yet here he was with his mouth full of cinnamon bun and pancake, topped off by two or three chocolate-covered churros. And a mug of hot chocolate.

The man had a nerve!

Wesley intended on just getting a bite of food to sample at first, but it was all so good. He'd eat the same thing in restaurants before. This was much better.

His perception of her changed a little. She turned to look at him, and their eyes met. "What do you like to eat Shaunny? I will cook for you," she said cheerfully.

"I have dinner appointment tonight."

He didn't say anything else. He just walked right to the bedroom to change his clothes.

She wasn't really mad about this. The leader of a global company often had their mind on other things.

But it was still important that their connection stayed a positive one.

She quickly cleaned up the table and went to change into her work clothes.

She came from her room with her handbag just as Wesley was about to leave the home.

Shaunny will you please drop me? Even I am getting late for my office. If its too much for you I can get off at metro station only. Please drop me if you can.

His mouth pressed together, like he might still say no. But then he thought of how much he had liked the breakfast she had cooked today, and he nodded.

They rode the elevator down together to the parking garage.

Instead what Marlena was expecting, a Bentley, or a Maybach the man pulled up to a white Lexus.

"Well... Is this the vehicle you own?

Yes,

He sat in the driver's seat, after he had opened the door.

She did the same, confused and got in the car. "Shaunny, please explain to me why you chose this car."

He was driving a car that costed little over $300,000 and he was supposedly the inheritor of a worldwide company?

He said only, "it's cheap and fuel efficient" then he started the car.

"I married a wonderful man who know how to live."

She looked away only to find a cheap tissue packet on the dashboard. It had "### Gas Station—cheapest and easiest" printed on it.

Marlena was perplexed.

Had every one of these victorious CEO's she read about today really lived like this?

Could it be that, in contrast to all the other successful CEOs, she had been spending too much instead of saving money and that was why the Cray had not been well disposed towards her?

She pondered this for a long time as she walked.

The automobile stopped near the metro station ten minutes later. He looked in her direction. «— Go now.

..- »

Heee could-unt ex-press herseeelf.

She onlyo said it tuh be niiice, but heee actuelly fol-loowwed inst-truc-tions.

Alright, alright, alright.

She put on a small smile, wishing away the anger that was trying to bubble up inside of her. "Thank you, Shaunny."

She had no sooner stepped on to the pavement than the car drove off. How unfeeling and unsympathetic a person!

She didn't get in to the firm until after 9PM.

After returning from her overseas education, she went to work at Summit Building Design Group. It was the Cray family's biggest company.

But when she walked in the door, project manager Colby Morton spoke to her in an odd voice and said not to come in anymore. This project is no longer yours.

"Tell me more."

Colby turned to see who it was, and he grinned. "Isla! Well don't you look fabulous."

When Marlena turned to face Isla, she was walking toward them in a low-cut white knit top. Grayson, who had the same-colored shirt on, was to her right. They were joined at the arms.

They were in a bubble of sunlight coming through the window. With their matching outfits, they looked like a couple that is very much in love.
