"So, what are you observing?"
She asked the same thing.
Although she was ready mentally to seduce him but still she felt uneasy because of his intense look. Her eyes fell down on floor and she instinctively covered her chest with both of her hands.
He sneered. "I'm trying to figure out how you are going to seduce me."
".."
She didn't know what to tell them. She had thought about it earlier, she was willing to admit that much, but not now.
"I wasn't feelin' at all …"
The woman made a face, her simple, unadorned features holding an all-natural quality. Wesley turned his head and lost interest once more. "Rent someplace with the money I'm giving you," he said flatly. "Sharing living quarters is unacceptable."
She was running away from him.
Marlena tensed at that. "How is that wrong? We are legally married."
A sardonic smirk stretched over his features. "I think you are fully aware of why we really got married."
She tried to act coy and pulled on her sexiest smile when she heard that. Didn't I tell you? I fell for you the moment I saw you. My Baird heart's been yours ever since.
"All right, I'm coming but I can't talk."
That night he must have been cursed.
Suddenly she said, "I got it now! You're still angry about what happened earlier. It's only normal to feel tricked in that way."
She looked to be debating it as she chewed on her pink lip.
"All right... How about I show you what I have, too?"
Then she reached to take the pajamas' top button off.
He inhaled a sharp breath but for a tiny second and turned around, slamming the door after him not before saying something about her being ridiculously daring.
She stared at her collarbones and sighed in relief. That he had left before she could say anything made her laugh really.
Short tempered, but a good guy all the same.
One rarely met a man like him anymore.
..
Midnight. The continuous meowing of the cat woke up Marlena.
She got out of bed and turned on the lights. Taffy was weakly vomiting under the table.
"Taffy." She jumped and reached impulsively to snatch the cat as Wesley's voice, wholly devoid of inflection, spoke from directly behind her. "Move."
Her hands reached in the air, he went forward and picked up the cat.
His sharp jawline appeared remote and unsympathetic in the dim glow of the lightbulbs. But black hair hung about his beautiful face, with gleaming hints of lovely compassion stored down deep behind those nut-brown eyes.
"Whatever became of her?"
Marlena was bewildered, and the cute kitten would not allow her to rest.
"What's your thought?" Wesley glared at her, anger flashing in his eyes. "But for the fact she's a cat, you've been wasting on her. Do you really think she has the belly for it?"
Her regrets over what happened were profound then, but now, she didn't know how that can be possible when all of those strays she'd seen around Catford had managed to eat just about everything. She assumed cats had iron cased stomachs because of this."
"I'm sorry."
"If Taffy is harmed in any way, I won't forgive you!"
He gave her a long, hard look before standing and grabbing the car keys. Then he headed out of the house with Taffy in his arms.
She rushed after him to the elevator. "I know a good vet." Nervously she added, "I'll take you."
Without giving her a second glance, he just tightened his lips and left the elevator that had reached the ground level with long strides.
She had barely opened the passenger side door when they reached the car and a strong arm pulled her roughly from behind.
In slippers, Marlena staggered. She lost her balance and fell over backwards onto the pavement.
He stood in front of the car. The sheer hatred that emanated from his coal black eyes terrified her. "Get out of here now. When I come back, I better not see you here. I won't ask again."
Wesley then lifted Taffy into the car. In no time at all, the white Lexus sped off into the night.
Marlena was left alone in the dim parking lot, and as she watched the car drive away, tears filled her eyes. All of the complaints she had been suppressing all day suddenly broke through her face like a broken dam.
Today, it felt like everyone ignored her; staying away from her.
She didn't feel like she was supposed to be part of the Cray family anymore.
The only nice person there was Taffy.
But she wasn't even going to be able to stay here any longer.
A cruel sneer twitched at her mouth. She felt sorry for Taffy because she just remembered when she had puked.
But Marlena persisted to pester Wesley knowing he have no interest or intention towards her other then her own ambition. She had no care for her own dignity, was it of any real worth.
She also put Taffy through this torment.
Maybe it was time to let her go.
Section Twelve Marlena stood herself up. After returning to the house for her things, she left.
2:00 a.m.
She went straight to the nearest five-star hotel because she didn't want to wake up her friend.
She got her credit card in the lobby and handed it to the receptionist. A moment later, she had it back. "I'm sorry, but we can't accept this card," the person said.
She handed the person another card when she noticed.
She made few more tries with her other cards but still was not successful. Finally, after ringing the bank for informing that all her credit cards were blocked by the Joneses she felt on despair.
She had worked on various projects over the last few years, and made a few million dollars as well—but she had given away all of that money to Sally, and kept none for herself.
Most of the time, she paid for her day-to-day expenses with credit cards that Calvin had provided her. But they were currently all frozen. The only asset Xie Yangqing still possessed was a pay card in her purse with a little over ten thousand yuan left on it.
The front desk agent got pissed. "If you can't afford to stay in our hotel, there is a guesthouse around 300 yards, just turn left by the main entrance."
She felt insulted. "Is that how you talk to your customers?"
I'm just saying. If you can't afford it then you shouldn't be staying in a five star hotel.
Marlena was sick of it by now. She never thought she, a Baird through and through from the wealthy Cray clan, would have this kind of humiliation. "I'm sure I can afford
She reached for her pay card, then hesitated a moment. In this hotel, the lowest room cost at least two thousand dollars each night. And she actually had no idea when she would be able to return to the Cray home with everything else that was going on.
She was homeless and jobless now. If she used up whatever she had left, how would she be able to survive later?
""Fine, I quit acting then. I'll leave." The receptionist gave a curt smile and said, "You're not supposed to be here anyway. Go ahead."
Putting her pride to the side, Marlena walked out of the hotel room with her bag in hand.
It was late in the evening and there were not many hotels available, so she parked for a while and found a cheap motel that was about $100 a night.
She didn't know that someone had taken a picture of her going into the low-rent motel and had sent it to their high school group text.
Wesley was greeted at the vet's practice with the chief vet stood waiting lips pursed by the entrance.
The man couldn't stop thinking about how he had married a person he didn't know and began to cry.
Fifteen minutes later the door of the surgery room opened.
Dr. Alcott stepped out. Wesley came forward right away, his face tightening. "Is the cat okay?"
Dr. Alcott looked again from his glasses and grinned white at him. "Your cat is going to have kittens in two weeks."
