Chapter 5 - Chapter-5: A tad bit late

Dawud was at a lost, he heard screams from outside, calling him. But couldn't move himself much. He barely walked. He supported himself holding leaning on the wall and slid towards the door slowly. The bags behind his back added nothing but more trouble, his chest hurt more, so did his head, he placed his hand on the back of his head to checkout. "No, not bleeding. But the pain, it's piercing… gah, damn it…"

He raised a leg and placed another slowly walking, he felt like he should just hunch over to the door, because the screams grew louder and multiplied, and his body slowly broke down. Who knows why? It still gave a bit of a thrilling feel in his heart. The bright weather suddenly turning dark, low groans and growls heard from afar, the weather moaning out it's muffled euphoria glistening out the dark calculating face of nature slowly.

Dawud liked darkness, not necessarily dark stuff. Doing such things was against his family regulations and religious terminologies, yet he loved the feeling of total banishment signifying a lonesome nature of isolation and honoring solitude.

Dawud shook his head hard, dismissed all those thoughts and hopped ahead, he had to reach the door no matter what.

"Dad, brother's not coming out, I'll go and get him'"

His younger sister was just about to open the car door, the mother grabbed her hand, looking straight at her eyes deeply, her eyes slowly getting watery, she just shook her head telling the girl no. His sister just stared at her speechless, and looked at their father, who was expressionless, a drop of sweat rolling down his face, he just sighed and shifted the gear.

"No, not without Dawud. I'm not going anywhere without him, not without him, No!"

She tried to free her hand, her mother maintained a firm grip om her wrist. Her dad shifted himself to the back seat buckled her up tightly to the seat belt, "Didn't you just hate your brother?!"

"Not as much as you." They just quarreled inside the car.

Their family dog started barking taking in the situation, it hurdles and scratches the window sensing the absence of Dawud and trying to get out.

And then, Dawud kicked open the front door of the house and came out hoping on one leg after the other. He saw the car starting and slowly riding off in the distance. He was baffled, to see his family car just drive off to the horizon of the setting sun. He looked back at the garage, seeing the door not even closed properly. The car was not there, as well as his family. He just wanted to make sure if their car was there. He couldn't just belive it, they really left him behind.

'What…? Why… Why me…?'

He questioned, he let go off the suitcase handle, letting it fall on the ground and just sat on it, looking at the car as it slowly disappears in the distance. His mouth agape with incredulity.

The bright sun didn't even need to set in the horizon, the dark clouds engulfed it whole, brewing the sky with dark cool colliding clouds. The neighbourhood around him filled up with all kind of commotion, people throwing stuff inside their car, their vans. Driving off, not even caring to close their houses properly.

Some just ran and ran and got over one another, each other's transports. Chaos stirred the neighbourhood open, the people even pushed children away, babies, toddlers all fell down from their hands as the selfish self interest of people drowned them in an overly self-deluding reality of self importance.

Dawood just stared in the road their car disappeared at. The neighbourhood was slowly g

etting empty, screams, hurdles, crashes took place everywhere. But Dawud, was unfazed by it all. He remained there, just staring in the same road, but suddenly, even the tiniest amount of panic ran up to his face.

'No no no! This can't be it, they left me… I'm left behind!! What am I going to do… all alone by myself… What!?" His thoughts dreaded dry in the wet weather. He pressed himself down on the suitcase, it compressed down in one side, resulting it to slide forward swiftly due to excess wait. As a result, he fell down on the ground.

He hurt his head again, hoding his head with both of his hands, a nerve popped in his head, putting him in excruciating pain. He exclaimed letting out a heavy breath, as if trying to break out of his thoughts, his abnormal headache and just kept rolling on the ground in utter despair.

The people going their ways gave him glances, some felt sorry for him, but shaked their feelings and tread forward, determined to cross the utter destruction that fell upon the world. Dawud slowly sit back up, a heavy lump forming in his throat, bit down on his lips and softly sniffed. A teardrop rolling down his, multiple tear drops following through.

The ground beneath met with the drops, forming a deep wet hue. He wrapped his arms around his legs, sitting all collected to himself. He hid his face in his knees, crying all over in silence. He just stuttered, mumbled a few curses to himself and cried to himself.

The neighbourhood slowly grew more silent, everyone just left. It was an eerie silence, Dawud was left all alone. He lifted his head up, his eyes blurry from the tears and slowly wiped them off looking around and just sighed. He took in everything around him and nodded.

"I see… Hello! Is anyone here anymore? I'm all alone! Haha, haha."

He felt it, being hysterical, specially when no one was around. He was in a state of unwanted surrender, surrendering to his pain, laughing his butt off.

* * * * * * * * * * *

After a while of washing down all his tears he finally got up and started to walk ahead, pulling the suitcase with him. He thought about them dying, crashing somewhere, he cursed them just to die, but then,

'What? What am I even thinking? I hope they reach the destination safely, I hope just they don't drive recklessly…'

"..."

'Why should I even care? Just die all of you. I was always liability for you, no? I always held you down, I am the real trouble, right? Fine, then I'll die instead. You guys live your life to the fullest. I'll just-"

Another huge shake was felt, the ground beneath started cracking. Dawud stood still, the houses nearby started collapsing down. The pale bright road, slowly started getting covered in massive darkness, shade fell over. The daylight got consumed by something strange, something baffling, something titanic. A big surge of those unsung, unknown abominable creatures, thousands forming a huge wave as big as a tsunami came clashing, colliding towards his way.

The sorrowful boy just peered at them. It couldn't be figured out if the waves were coming at him or not. It seemed motionless from this far, seemed like it stopped in it's path. But soon he realised, if a tornado for away from you seems motionless, it is definitely coming at you.

Dawud panicked, started pulling the suitcases and started running. He watched his footing, sprinting off, there were cracks all over. Landslides were rising up, the same height as speed breakers in the road. One careless bump and you would hit your head and bleed to death. The world pretended to not care about him, what would go wrong if he just died? He didn't care. But now, he ran if he were mad. Ran for his life, with his life, his instincts screamed.

Slopes started forming on the road, pulling the land up higher, he jumped and hoped and tiptoed through the road and climbed up to a rather higher place. He had the high ground, but that was not going to help. He knew if he looked back, he would just get terrified, which he already was.

He bumped on a landslide and fell down heavily collapsing on the ground. In an instant, the waves came at him. Dawud looked up at the sky and closed his eyes, he barely got the time to speak a few lies and curses. The waves of the creatures just csme closing in. Destroying everything in their path even the largest explosion caused by them, was devoured by them. Everything went dark in the path they crossed. It seemed like everything fell straight into the abyss of their destruction.

Dawud gave up. He just sighed and lied down there, shifting his weight on the broken ground. He got a bit comfortable. He felt this warm little comfort in the face of death. The comfort he never felt elsewhere. Being a late caused him his... life.

In a split second interval... it all went Dark. Utter darkness trembled in the surroundings, atom by atom surrounded him....
