Chereads / Withering World: Perseverance to Tranquility / Chapter 2 - Chapter-2: The Return

Chapter 2 - Chapter-2: The Return

The rain washed away the dirt on his bike, which had caught up to him, as if the recklessness got to it's neck. The heavy rain blurred his line of sight, the murmuring sound even made his hearing unclear, all he could discern was just all he could touch and felt against him.

Lighting fell around him, thunder burst it's loud, commanding growl. But… none hit him! He was in awe of what he felt, the pitiful man was awestruck of what could be possible if it was made to do what felt like it. He just stared up at the sky. He didn't feel like going anymore.

The rain wouldn't stop. He slid his hand inside his pocket, going through it and pulled out a paper. Sighed in defeat looking at it, the paper started getting soaking wet in the rain, melting in his hand, teared returned back to his eyes, rolling down.

Years of work— wasted in an instant.

"It was obvious wasn't it?"

He soke out loud. He tried to reach God. Tried to do something truly impossible.

Nothing is impossible in this World; at least that's what they say. But something out of this World, truly… Impossible.

He looked to the side, the mountain next to him, not so big. But, the one behind it was just huge, big and vast enough all together to fit thousands and thousands of elephants on each of it's slopes, either narrow or big.

It expanded up to the clouds, the top disappearing into the dark at night, as cloudy as that. He used up all hid energy and stood, a lump stuck in his throat, groggy and disoriented trying to say something, utter a word. But he was afraid to— as the vast terrain upward, making the mountain moved a little.

Was it an earthquake? No, it moved oddly, as if it tried to burst out in the front, puffing out a bit more as it was, stretching itself. Reality felt unreal. He wiped the tears and water out of his eyes, the rain was slowing down, he took a step back.

Step.

Step.

Step.

He stepped further away back, staring horrified at the mountain, his back pushed against his bike, stopping him as he held onto it leaning back.

"What sick trick is this?!"

The rain stopped completely, the clouds over the skull surfed away. A few insects and animals here and their were going with their usual sound, but all went completely silent…

As if, something big appeared there, something they could sense and truth fear of, they had to hide their presence for. Something abominable, should not exist.

A True Predator.

A subtle yet stiffening crack could be heard from not so afar, stones cracking. The spot on the huge mountain afar, behind the small mountain in front of him. The inflated spot grew more, as if something tried to tear out of it, just as a pus coming out of a swollen red pimple. The are on the mountain also grew swollen red, visible in the dark as if something glowing inside.

It felt as if Earth tried to squeeze out the abomination put which brew her with soar, scratchy, painful irritation.

The red glow stopped, put to an end, the cracks on the area, the wall, they grew, slowly going to the top. It became less swollen as it cracked more and pumped something out a satisfying sound. As if the lingering, excruciating pain stopped. The cracked slowly started opening and gas came out with a 'fushhh' sound.

The pitiful fellow could see it from this far, the gas was extremely vile in colour and contrast even being visible in the dark moonlit night. His nose twitched, his expression palpable, more than disgust as he covered his nose pressing with both of his hand. The odour was coming from the leaked out gas from the cracks, it could be smelled even from this far as it spread. It was centuries, if not, thousands of years older. He felt that.

He immediately turned around and hopped on the bike and rode off after starting it.

The road was muddy, as a result slippery. He tackled multiple drifts almost leading to a crash and drove off near the coast. One hell of a rider he is and jumped his hill bike off to the hill slopes sliding down through the side road to the main road and full throttled ahead. He looked back at the mountain, the cracks jut grew bigger, as if the gathered abominations in one place trying to burst out itself.

The odour was stuck in his nose, it was extremely unpleasant, as nefarious as the Devil bathing in a pool full of feces. It got him nauseated, he just wanted to double over while riding his bike, feeling dizzy he retained control still riding ahead t full speed.

He looked back again, now, a strange ethereal glow was emerging out of the pores formed from the crack on the mountain wall. He got baffled but shook his head. Immediately a loud horn bursted right at him, huge headlights crashed onto him, in a spontaneous monotonous 'brhhhm!!', his eyes widened, blood rushed up to his head goosebumps down to his spine as he skit the handle to tilt at a pang of dread and drifted over.

He lost control.

His bike threw him off to the side of the road almost hitting the truck, the bike ran off over hill running down the hill tract and crashed down at split second interval to him. The truck, in a fear of hitting him before, drove zig zag and lost control of the big steering wheels and ran straight into one of the narrow mountain slopes, crashing on the wall, tilting the entire vehicle over the side.

The pitiful man just laid on the ground, clenching on the grass and looked forward slowly raising his head. It all happened so quickly, he couldn't even get the time to asses the situation. A shrill pain filled his head, it was cold and piercing. Maybe blood ran down in his head?

He pressed his fists against the ground, cracking hos fingers on it and slowly got up, it strangly felt numb, as if essence of life was leaving his body. He looked back downhill, his bike was down there, destroyed, it's remains burning. He frowned deeply and his senses alarmed off and looked back ahead at the crashed truck, and immediately sprinted off. He reached the truck and pulled the door open. The driver was lying upside down on the seat, hanging to the seat belt, his head was bleeding a crimson red. The driver exhaled and opened his eyes, bloodshot red and started cursing. The pitiful man sighed and grabbed the driver and tried to pull him out through the doorway. The driver looked at him, trying to say something while cursing but something was stuck in his throat.

The man tried his toughest, but the driver wouldn't get out, only a few centimetres. He smelled something other than the odour stuck in his nose, and looked to the side, it was oil leaking out of the truck. His senses screamed, he huffed and groaned and pulled him harder, the driver sensed and came halfway back to his senses, and pushed his own off out of the truck. They could see a spark forming over the oil, they panicked.

"Ughh—-!!"

And finally both of them skipped out of near the truck and immediately ran off, but Alas, it exploded instantly and they got thrown off near the cliff over the roadside.

The truck was burning vigorously as they slowly got up, breathing heavily, their expressions grim. The burning lit up the road bright even at the middle of the night. But suddenly… what glowed more was not the fire, but at the distance, lit up the whole road as bright as day. It was coming out of the cracks on the pore spot of the huge mountain afar. It bulged, a solid thing just bulged and twitched eerily, seemingly about to break, shatter, hatch something out.

A vast shake was felt from the ground, it even vibrated, but it didn't feel like an earthquake, something even more disturbing. The wall exploded open, rocks shattering out, thr greenish gas spontaneously spreading out of the wall as air waves burst out seeming like storming wind rushed out of the wall, the whole crack formed mountain front shattered revealing an ethereal light and a disdainful dance of silhouette covering through the light on the road, those were huge, horrific. Something eerie stepped out. It was that something from before, a true Predator.
