Chapter 43: Su Yu X Humanoid Car
After acquiring the double-movement speed breastplate, Su Yu immediately set his sights on upgrading the rest of his equipment to match. His plan was to replace all his current gear with double-movement speed items. However, he soon ran into a problem—his backpack was full, and he needed to make space by selling his enhanced gear.
Selling directly to the system store felt like a waste, as the prices offered were far too low. If he wanted to sell to other players, game rules prevented him from selling worn equipment or quest rewards. However, equipment dropped by wild monsters and dungeons could be sold freely. The seven breastplates he had recently strengthened were unused and eligible for sale.
But Su Yu hesitated—should he sell them through the warehouse? No, that wouldn't work. Placing so many rare-quality items in the warehouse at once would inevitably attract attention. Players weren't fools, and they would quickly deduce that Su Yu possessed some special talent to amass so much rare gear. He needed to keep his abilities under wraps for as long as possible.
After a brief moment of consideration, Su Yu decided against using the warehouse. He needed a more discreet way to sell his equipment—something that wouldn't raise any red flags.
That's when an idea struck him.
Leaving the warehouse, Su Yu made his way to the NPC [Mercenary Merchant Brian], located in the village. From him, Su Yu rented a regular booth for 20 psionic coins a day. Unlike player-set stalls, which lacked any form of system protection and could be looted by passing players, the regular booths provided by the system were protected and offered a "custodial" option. This meant Su Yu could place his items in the booth and leave without worrying about theft.
With his rented booth secured, Su Yu headed to the mercenary trading market, a relatively quiet part of the game that hadn't fully opened yet. It was largely deserted, with few NPCs and even fewer players, making it the perfect spot to avoid too much attention.
Setting up at the entrance of the market, Su Yu displayed the seven rare breastplates, pricing them competitively: 320 psionic coins for level 3 rare items, and 520 psionic coins for level 5 rare items. He wasn't looking to make a huge profit—his main goal was to clear out space in his inventory and recover some of his expenses.
He named his booth: **"Rare Shop – Lots of Rare Quality Equipment for Sale at Low Prices."**
With that done, Su Yu returned to the warehouse to continue his quest for more double-movement speed gear.
It wasn't long after Su Yu left that two wandering players stumbled upon his booth. One of them snickered, "Who's wasting money renting a regular booth?"
His companion laughed too, adding, "Yeah, that's 200 coins down the drain. Look at the name of this shop, though—'Rare Shop,' really?"
But as the second player scanned the booth's inventory, his expression changed instantly. "Wait, no way!" he gasped. "There's actual rare-quality equipment here!"
His friend quickly checked the booth as well, eyes widening in disbelief. "Seven pieces of tradable rare gear? How is that even possible?"
The two immediately began taking screenshots and spreading the news to the forums: **"7 pieces of rare equipment for sale in the mercenary trading market!"**
It didn't take long for the news to spread like wildfire. Soon, players from all over Nolan Village flocked to the mercenary market, eager to see the rare items for themselves. The once-empty market quickly became packed with players, most of whom had never even seen rare equipment before. Even those who couldn't afford the gear came just to witness it.
About five or six minutes later, Su Yu returned to the mercenary market, having completed his upgrades. He was now fully outfitted with gear that enhanced his movement speed.
His new stats were impressive: [Hillside Sheep Leather Hood] +0.6 movement speed, [Wind-like Leather Armor] +0.7 movement speed, [Whispering Leggings] +0.8 movement speed, [Flannel Gloves] +0.4 movement speed, [Bone Tooth Boots] +1.2 movement speed, [Spider Silver Wire Shoulders] +0.4 movement speed, and [Boar Leather Belt] +0.5 movement speed.
In "Evolution," armor is divided into seven main categories: hats, shoulder pads, breastplates, gloves, belts, leggings, and shoes. Players also have two ring slots, one necklace slot, and two accessory slots. However, accessories and jewelry only drop from monsters above level 10, and the only way to obtain such items below level 10, like [Tears of the Goddess], is through quest rewards. At this point in the game, there were no jewelry items available in the player market.
With his full set of speed-enhancing gear, Su Yu's movement speed had increased by 4.6, adding to his base speed of 1.2 for a total of 5.8 meters per second.
To put this into perspective, 5.8 meters per second meant that Su Yu moved faster than most players could even react. At a full sprint, his speed surged to nearly 29 meters per second! That was faster than the running speed of a tiger and comparable to a speeding car!
Though he wasn't sure if he could outrun the [Wolf King Howling Moon], Su Yu was confident he could easily leave the [Wolf King Guards] in the dust. With this newfound speed, he finally had the edge he needed to face the Wolf King.
Outside the trading market, Su Yu carried an oversized leather backpack filled with enhanced rare equipment. He had purchased the backpack from the village cobbler for 20 psionic coins, both to transport his equipment and to prepare for the loot he expected to gather from the Wolf King. Boss monsters in siege battles dropped dozens of items, and Su Yu knew he'd need the extra space to collect everything the Wolf King would leave behind.
As he approached the market, Su Yu was greeted by the sight of a massive crowd gathered around his booth. His scalp tingled at the realization of just how much attention his equipment had drawn.
"Guess I underestimated the reaction this would cause," he thought. But Su Yu wasn't worried. With [Invisibility], he could slip through the crowd without being noticed.
Activating [Invisibility], Su Yu quickly blended into the crowd. Nearby players, distracted by his oversized backpack, barely paid him any mind.
One player even approached, tapping Su Yu on the shoulder. "Hey man, where'd you get that massive backpack?"
But just before his hand made contact, Su Yu disappeared into thin air, his [Invisibility] taking effect. The player's hand swiped through empty air, leaving him momentarily dumbfounded.
"G-Ghost!" the player screamed in shock, drawing looks of disbelief from the surrounding crowd. "Someone help!"
"Relax," another player scoffed. "He probably just logged off."
The embarrassed player realized his mistake and awkwardly laughed it off.
Meanwhile, Su Yu silently made his way through the crowd, arriving at his booth. Six of the seven breastplates had already been sold, with only the level 5 [Red Wolf Leather Jacket] remaining. Several players were gathered in front of the booth, betting on when the last piece would sell.
"I bet you 50 psionic coins it'll be sold within the next hour!"
"I'll take that bet! But I'm not going higher than 50!"
Su Yu smirked under his invisibility. With his newfound speed, he was ready for the next challenge: the Wolf King.
