Chapter 46 The Sword of Heavenly Slaying, the "Rain of Items" of the Wolf King

The streets and alleys of Nolan Village bustled with activity.

Players gathered in groups, some deep in conversation about the upcoming "Monster Siege," others discussing the rumor of "sixty or seventy blue items being created," and a few excitedly chattering about the "Nolan Village Flying Man." The atmosphere was lively, anticipation hanging in the air.

However, just as [Howling Moon Wolf King] met its death, the entire game world was interrupted by a sudden system announcement:

"Ding! The [Howling Moon Wolf King] siege event has ended. Thank you for your enthusiastic participation!"

At that moment, an eerie silence swept across Nolan Village. Every player stared blankly at the notification, their minds struggling to comprehend what had just occurred.

"What... what happened?!"

The players had gathered, eagerly waiting for the monster siege to begin. The countdown had shown there were still 19 minutes left before the event was supposed to start. Yet now, the event had already concluded?

A storm of confusion and frustration erupted throughout the village.

"Wait, what?! The event's over already?! What's going on with this game?"

"This has to be a joke! We've been waiting for this all day, and now it's canceled before it even starts?"

"Are you serious? I came all the way from another village just for this? What a waste!"

"Unbelievable! I've had enough of this broken game. No events, no rewards, and now even the siege is canceled? I'm done!"

"Refund! We demand refunds!"

Angry cries filled the air as players vented their frustrations. At the same time, the game's official forums were bombarded with complaints, the homepage flooded with threads railing against the developers for the sudden cancellation of the siege event.

A few minutes later, the game's maintenance team posted an official response to try and calm the situation.

"The Monster Siege has not been canceled," the post began. "A player managed to defeat the boss before the siege even began, hence ending the event early. We encourage you to stay tuned for future content. Additionally, other novice villages will also experience monster sieges in the coming days."

This explanation worked, at least to some extent. The initial fury began to simmer down, and soon, players turned their attention to a new subject: the identity of the player who killed the boss and ruined the event for everyone else.

"It has to be one of the big guilds! No one else would have the strength to pull that off," one player speculated.

"Yeah, figures that a big guild would just waltz in and steal the boss for themselves. They don't care about the rest of us!"

"Which guild could it be? I bet it's the Heaven Slaying Guild."

"Right! The Heaven Slaying Guild just set up their base in Village No. 6. Who else could it be?"

"That makes sense. Heaven Slaying Sword again, ruining it for everyone!"

"Pay up, Heaven Slaying Sword! Compensate us for the lost rewards!"

"Yeah! Apologize and share the loot, Heaven Slaying Guild!"

In typical fashion, the demands from the players became increasingly unreasonable. Even if the Heaven Slaying Guild had killed the boss (which hadn't been confirmed), there was no obligation for them to compensate the rest of the players. But logic seldom mattered in situations like this—once a player's interests were threatened, they didn't care whether their anger was justified or not.

Soon, the forums were full of players criticizing and condemning the Heaven Slaying Guild.

---

Meanwhile, Heaven Slaying Sword, the guild leader, was completely baffled by what was happening.

He casually opened the official forums, curious to see the discussions surrounding the "Monster Siege Cancellation." But to his shock, his guild was being accused of killing the boss and ruining the event.

"What? We didn't do anything!" he muttered, eyes widening in disbelief.

After reading a few posts, Heaven Slaying Sword quickly posted a clarification: "Everyone, please believe me! Our guild had nothing to do with this! We didn't kill the boss, and we definitely didn't block the village entrance last time either! Here's the proof!"

He attached screenshots of his guild's battle and loot records for the past half-hour, showing no involvement in the incident. The members of the Heaven Slaying Guild also joined in, helping their leader defend the guild's innocence, and gradually, the wave of anger subsided.

Heaven Slaying Sword sighed, exhausted. Ever since he joined "Evolution," he felt as if he was being toyed with by some unseen force. Nothing seemed to go his way.

While the drama unfolded online, Su Yu, still within the game, plummeted from the cliff.

The oversized leather backpack he'd bought had helped slow his descent slightly, but it wasn't a professional gliding bag, and his speed was still quite fast.

Thankfully, Su Yu had planned for this.

The Wolf King's [Push] ability had a 15-second cooldown, while his [Blink] had a cooldown of just 12 seconds. The backpack extended his fall time by around four seconds, and by the time he neared the ground, his [Blink] was ready.

In a flash of white light, Su Yu appeared safely on the forest floor.

"Phew! Got it done." Su Yu grinned. "No matter how smart these bosses are, they're no match for a player who knows the game mechanics."

Surveying the scene, Su Yu's eyes sparkled as he saw the "rain of items" that had fallen from the Wolf King's corpse. Gleaming blue and green items lay scattered on the ground, alongside a particularly noticeable golden light.

Excited, Su Yu began collecting the loot. Each item he picked up felt like a small victory.

"A level 10 green heavy armor boot? Not bad!"

"A skill scroll for [Earth Stab]? Just what I needed."

"Oh, a pet egg! That's fantastic!"

The pet egg he found was labeled [Howling Moon Wolf Egg (Excellent)]. Once hatched, it would summon a Howling Moon Wolf to assist him in battle. Players could unlock their first pet at level 10, and while they could collect additional pets as they leveled up, only one could be summoned at a time—unless you were a Summoner, a class coming with the expansion two months from now.

Satisfied with his find, Su Yu stuffed the egg into his system backpack and continued scavenging for items.

He had seen a thin streak of golden light during the Wolf King's item drop. It was small and slender, meaning it was likely a piece of jewelry or an accessory, which piqued his interest.

After collecting most of the items, Su Yu finally found the source of the golden glow.

It was a potion.

[Intermediate Health Recovery Potion (Gold)]: Restores 300 health points over three seconds.

Su Yu's eyes widened in surprise. "A golden health potion?!"

This find was rarer than he'd anticipated.
