Chapter 6 - She's being reasonable? RUN, ITS A SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE!

I check the PAD on the way to the captains readyroom. I have been preparing for this since I was done talking with the Doctor yesterday.

When I talked to him about cybernetics he did not like. Once he actually was sure I was serious he told me that he was more than a bit hesitant to preform needless medical procedures, even more as they would be more than a bit invasive.

So he told me to take it up with the Captain. At the time I was unsure about what the captain had to do with my medical decisions but I guess the Captain is God on his(or in this case her) ship.

Deciding to do this correctly I applied for a meeting today through the first officer. I even had the computer look up protocol for me.

Janeway didn't look like someone that would be overly big on it, but it cant hurt to do it right.

As I step into her readyroom I give her a nod "Captain Janeway. Thank you for seeing me." and she smile in return

"No problem at all, Mr Hiver(name substituted). How can I help you today? Have a seat." and I walk up to sit in the chair in front of her desk. It's more comfortable than it look.

"I have a request. I first took this up with the Doctor and he wanted me to take it up with you."

She nods and lean back into her chair "Very well then, lets hear it."

I proceed to repeat my request "I am a transhumanist, Captain. Are you aware of that term?" I ask and she shake her head

"I don't believe I have heard it. From the term have some relation to Humanism, I'm guessing?" and I nod

"Somewhat. The humanist point of view put a great value on sapient beings. It also value individual thought and evidence over established doctrine or faith. Transhumanism is similar and share one of the major values of your federation, the need to better oneself. To become more than you are. More than human in this case, hence the name."

She frown slightly "More than human? We had people with that mindset in the past, you have read about the Eugenics Wars."

I simply nod "True. They where also idiots. They raised children that knew and was told they where superior to everyone around it and then get horribly surprised when they see themselves as superior and want to take over the world. But while on a Federation ship or in Federation space I will accept Federation laws. If I didn't I would be here asking for genetic resequencing."

By now she is frowning harder "So what are you here asking about?" and I smile slightly

"Cybernetic enhancement. The Doctor is hesitant to preform what he see as needless surgery and wanted me to run it by you first."

She sigh and then get up and walk to the replicator "Coffee. Black. Do you want something?" she ask and I ask for a green tea before she return and continue "I'm inclined to side with the Doctor here. Cybernetics are serious things and usually only used after damage to sever to heal normally."

Nodding I sip on my tea before responding "I know, I have read up on it. But what you need to understand is that I don't want him to chop of my arm and replace it. I want to add, not substitute."

She slowly nod and drink her Coffee "Still, I am hesitant about this. You are new to this timeframe and all this technology might look miraculous to you, but..." and I interrupt her

"This is not me being 'seduced' by the power of technology Captain. I had these views or belies before I arrived here. I know Commander Chakotay and others follow their own spiritual beliefs. Some of them rather strange to the outsider. I thought the Federation practiced religious freedom, so why would I not be allowed to follow my beliefs, just because some find them strange?"

She sigh and put the cup down "I need time to think about this." and I nod, standing up and taking my cup to the replicator to get rid of the remains "Understandable, Captain. I await your response."

Two days later I get my response and I'm smiling as I leave her readyroom.

She took the middle road. She will allow it, but the Doctor have veto rights for anything he deem to dangerous. Also, no ship resources will be assigned to it. If I want equipment, I need to use my replicator rations. If I'm unable to build the item myself, I need to convince someone to help me. The only official help I get will be from the doctor as a consult, he will also be the one to preform the 'installations'.

If I get someone to help me, it are not allowed to affect their duties to the ship either.

In other words, a rather fair ruling. While I was talking to her and have her decision I also asked if it are possible for me to do some work on board of the ship as I feel rather useless just sitting around.

She said she would take it up with the department heads so we will see what happen.

Smiling I start making my way down to sickbay. I have a medical professional to pester.
