Chapter Thirty-Four
The water. Had it been the water she drank at the meeting? All she could think about was the sensation building inside her, like a hunger that demanded to be satisfied.
As she continued to drive, the sensation in her neck spread, creeping down her spine like a cold finger. But it wasn't just fear or anxiety. There was something else, something that made her skin feel sensitive, and her nerves tingling. It was as if her body had been ignited, while a slow-burning fire threatened to consume her.
The memory of the meeting flashed through her mind like a warning signal. Maxwell's smug face, the glass of water they had handed her as if it were a sign of duty… Asli's gut twisted with regret. She had drunk the water without suspecting they couldn't dare harm her.
This was not like her. This was a brief slip in her normal vigilance and see how it was costing her.
The horrific feeling now settled in the pit of her stomach like a cold stone.
What had they put in the water?
A wave of dizziness washed over her one more time, making her vision blur. Her heart was racing now, and her breath came in short gasps. She felt like she was losing control as if the car was driving itself.
Her thoughts were a jumbled mix of fear, confusion, and a growing sense of unease. What was happening to her? And who was behind this? Did anyone poison her?
No, this was something else. She knew what being poisoned was like; her father had given it to her to know what it was like when she was nineteen.
What was this then? Was this Ahmet's plan? He had forced her to attend the meeting, hadn't he?
What was he going to gain from this? He had his chance when she collapsed in front of him days ago. He placed a towel on her head and stayed with her till she was awake. Why would he drug her today? What drug was this? This feeling was new to her.
She briefly forgot that a car was also following her. But quickly, she remembered. Asli looked through the rearview mirror and the car was still following her. She knew she had to think fast. She had to come up with a plan to shake the tail and get to a safe place.
Her fingers flew across the steering wheel, activating the car's Autopilot mode. "Take control," she muttered, her voice low but urgent.
The car's computer responded instantly, and the wheel spun smoothly as the vehicle accelerated. Asli's eyes flicked to the rearview mirror one more time and her gaze locked onto the other car. It was still following her, its driver expertly matching the car's increased speed.
Her lips curled into a snarl as she realized she couldn't do anything. And then, there were the other unknown effects. They kept kicking in, sending waves of heat coursing through her body. Her skin felt sensitive, and her nerves tingled with an unwanted desire.
She cussed beneath her breath, while her hands clenched into fists. This was not what she needed. Not now, when Ahmet probably had an agenda she couldn't decide yet. Or was this part of his games? This wasn't funny anymore.
The car sped on, and the other clung to its tail like a shadow. She had to lose the tail, had to get to safety before… before whatever they had given her took full effect.
'I'm bigger than this feeling. Everyone bows to me so how dare this feeling…' she tried tricking her mind but it seemed impossible.
The car devoured the distance while her gaze remained fixed on the rearview mirror. The car was still clinging to her tail. The driver refused to back down.
This wasn't looking good. Whoever was following her, she was sure she wouldn't be able to fight them.
