Chapter Thirty-Four

As if the car could sense her tension and quickly seemed to respond in kind. It took the corners with a precision that human hands could not have achieved. The tires squealed in protest as they pushed the car's boundaries.

She knew these streets like the back of her hand, every alleyway and side street etched into her memory like a map. And she knew exactly where she was headed. She also knew whoever was chasing after her wouldn't know.

But if it were Ahmet, he would know where those streets led to. He had been there before. There was nowhere her father would send men after her and no way her men would follow her in this manner.

And then, in an instant, it looked like it was almost over. Her car flashed across the bridge, then the other one was merely inches behind. It was too big and too clumsy. It clipped the side of the bridge, and the sound of crunching metal echoed through the air as it spun out of control, falling into the river.

She let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. The car, still on Autopilot mode, continued to drive, gently exiting the bridge and onto a busy highway, heading for her warehouse.

She was safe for now. The person driving wasn't Ahmet. She had seen how Ahmet drove. He drove like he owned the street. Like every curve and turn bowed to his command. The driver of the car stalking her couldn't dodge through this bridge when her car challenged its ability.

She tried to find a comfortable position in the seat as she relaxed more into the seat. The feeling wasn't as intense as it was minutes ago. Why was she relaxed that Ahmet wasn't behind this? She could have made a tangible case out of this and took her revenge. Regardless, she was relieved the heat had subdued.

Her eyes drifted closed, and her head lolled back against the headrest. The car's smooth hum and the gentle sway of the suspension seemed to lull her into a state of deep relaxation.

Then suddenly, a slow-burning fire seemed to ignite every nerve in her body again.

Oh, she thought it was over, what was happening to her? This seemed more intense than what she experienced minutes ago.

Her skin continued to feel sensitive, every brush of the air conditioning vents or the soft whisper of the leather upholstery sent shivers down her spine.

Her breathing slowed, and deepened, and her lips parted slightly as if inviting something - or someone - to enter.

Ahmet.

She couldn't possibly want… need him. Could she?

Her hands, resting on the armrests, began to stir, and her fingers drummed a slow, sensual beat on the cool leather.

Asli's eyelids flickered open, her gaze unfocused and fuzzy. Her body appeared to be humming and vibrating with an unusual, unexpected energy. She tried to sit up straight to shake off the feeling, but it didn't work. This time around, it was as if she couldn't move her body.

The car's interior appeared to be closing in on her, the shadows deepening and becoming more menacing. Her heart was racing, and her pulse pounded in her ears like a rhythm. She could even feel the rate at which her blood circulated in her body. She felt alive. Electrifying, perhaps.

The car came to a stop immediately when they got to her familiar warehouse and yet, a thread of fear was beginning to unravel. She knew something different, and outrageous was happening… something she couldn't control. Her eyes scanned the car's interior as if searching for answers, but there were none.

Only the relentless, pounding beat of her heart, and the slow, sensual burn of the fire that was consuming her, one delicious, terrifying inch at a time.

Now she knew what it was. She couldn't deny she wanted to touch Ahmet's sharp jawline and push him to her. She wanted to see him naked… so urgently, and so badly.
