26: Luna's spell
As Leonis continued towards the training area, the chanting grew louder.
" Astra, ignis, exigens... "
He furrowed his brow, intrigued.
"Who could be training at this hour?"
A fleeting thought crossed his mind:
"Sounds familiar... but can't quite place it."
Déjà vu washed over him.
Leonis's gaze drifted towards the source of the chant.
As he rounded the corner, his footsteps quiet on the cold stone floor. The chanting grew louder, echoing off the walls.
" Astra, ignis, exigens... "
He slowed his pace, curiosity piqued.
As he turned another corner, the training area came into view.
A lone figure stood within the dimly lit space.
Leonis's eyes narrowed, focusing on the figure.
His footsteps halted, just out of sight.
The figure's voice rose, chanting intensifying.
Leonis's gaze locked onto the familiar silhouette.
His thoughts stuttered.
"Luna...?"
Surprise washed over him, but he remained silent.
Luna stood engrossed, her eyes closed.
Unaware of Leonis's presence.
Her hands weaved intricate patterns.
The air around her shimmered.
Leonis's eyes widened.
She's improved.
His gaze lingered on Luna's determined expression.
A mix of emotions swirled within him.
Pride. Wonder. Concern.
Leonis stood motionless, hidden from Luna's view.
"Why is she training so late?" he thought.
His gaze remained fixed on Luna's focused form.
"Has she been struggling with her magic?"
Leonis's mind began to whirl.
"Or did Teacher Elara assign her extra practice?"
He recalled Luna's enthusiasm for magic.
"But this late? It's unusual."
Leonis's brow furrowed.
"Is something troubling her?"
His thoughts drifted to their conversations.
"No hints of stress or struggles..."
Luna's chanting continued, uninterrupted.
Leonis's eyes narrowed.
The silence enveloped him.
"Maybe I should..."
Leonis remained hidden, observing Luna with interest.
She opened a worn spellbook, its pages yellowed with age.
Her eyes scanned the text, lips moving silently.
Suddenly, she began to chant.
"Ventus, aerius, evoco..."
Her voice rose, clear and confident.
Leonis's gaze intensified.
A wind spell?
Luna's hands danced, weaving intricate patterns.
The air around her shimmered.
Seconds ticked by.
Anticipation built.
Luna finished chanting.
A small gust of wind stirred.
It rustled nearby leaves.
Luna's face lit up.
But her smile faltered.
The gust dissipated.
Disappointment flickered.
Leonis sensed her frustration.
Yet, Luna didn't yield.
She reviewed the spellbook.
Adjusted her stance.
Began chanting anew.
"Ventus, aerius, evoco..."
Leonis watched, intrigued.
Her dedication impressed him.
Leonis silently stepped back, blending into the shadows.
Luna remained engrossed in her training.
Unaware of his presence.
He turned to leave.
His footsteps quiet.
As he disappeared.
Luna continued chanting.
"Ventus, aerius, evoco..."
Her focus never wavered.
Leonis vanished.
Into the darkness.
His thoughts lingered.
On Luna's determination.
As Leonis disappeared into the darkness, his thoughts lingered on Luna's unwavering dedication.
"Her persistence is inspiring," he thought.
"The way she coaxed even a small gust from the air... impressive."
He walked, lost in reflection, his footsteps echoing through the silent corridors.
"Wind's fury, wind's gentle touch... How can I harness its power?"
Leonis's inner dialogue intensified.
"Speed, pressure, flow... The dynamics of air."
He recalled ancient texts.
"Wind's path, wind's force... Understanding its patterns."
Luna's spell flashed in his mind.
"Her chant, 'Ventus, aerius, evoco...' Simple yet effective."
Leonis analyzed the spell.
"She tapped into air's essence, its fluidity."
Inspiration struck.
"Perhaps I've been overcomplicating my approach."
Leonis's eyes narrowed.
"Visualization, focus, release... The keys to control."
His thoughts shifted.
"Practice, precision, patience... The pillars of mastery."
Leonis envisioned himself wielding wind.
"Summoning gusts, calming storms."
Luna's determination resurfaced in his thoughts.
"She didn't give up, even when her initial attempts failed."
Leonis's resolve strengthened.
"I won't give up either. I'll master wind's secrets."
His mind cleared.
"A new approach... Harmonize with wind's energy."
Determination ignited within.
"I'll study Luna's spell, understand its nuances."
Leonis's eyes burned with conviction.
"I'll command the winds, and unlock their true potential."
As he walked, his steps echoed, and the darkness seemed to fade.
