Khloe's POV
Standing before the magnificent building in front of me, I grasped my purse tightly as my heart rammed against my chest in a quick succession.
After the threat from Lance's secretary, I was uneasy as I couldn't think of anything else apart from his words.
He sounded serious and for the six months I dated Lance, one thing I would never forget about him was that he always kept to his words.
No matter how difficult a task may seem, once he sets his mind on it, he was going to purse it until the very end.
At this point, the only person I could think of and to run to for help was Nevian and immediately I swung into action.
I wasn't going to sit back and watch all what I had worked for come crumbling down.
All my determination died when I arrived in front of Nevian's company. The more I stared at the intimidating building, the more frightened I became that I began to contemplate leaving.
Suddenly, my confidence returned and immediately, I began to make my way into the building, keeping my chin up high.
Once again, my confidence went AWOL when I arrived at the floor where his office was situated. I was already on the verge of leaving when a man walked up to me.
"You must be here for Mr. Nevain, please come with me." He said, steering me in the direction of a large door.
His approach was polite and so I couldn't turn him down and so with my heart in my mouth, I pulled my feet after him.
Immediately he shut the door behind me and I locked eyes with Nevain who was behind his table, my heart fell into my stomach when a thud.
Gulping, I tried to turn around to leave but my feet were glued to the ground.
Adding to my discomfort, his gaze which never left me even for a second since I stepped in made me even more uncomfortable.
"Look who we have here." He chuckled, pushing his hands into his pockets as he walked around the table.
His rich baritone kept echoing in my ear that even when I shook my head to drive it, it returned with a full force.
With his back turned on me, I allowed my head to run haywire with different ideas, unable to settle for the proper way to start a conversation with him.
"Come sit." He said, plopping on the couch with a cup of coffee to his lips as he crossed his legs.
Against my will, I found myself making my way towards him until I was sitting on the couch opposite him, staring at the steaming coffee he had offered to me.
"I never thought I was going to see you ever again." He said with a carefree tone that made me shift uneasily on my seat.
All I could think of was the money I was owing and how I was going to offset it next year.
"So… why did you come see me?" He asked, leaning forward with his hands clasped in front of him.
Several times, I parted my lips to speak but I couldn't make a sound as my heart rammed against my chest.
"Come on Khloe, you don't need to be formal with me." He coaxed, taking his gaze off me and immediately I released the breath I never knew I was holding in.
The next time he turned around to face me, my confidence returned and with a firm voice I said, "I need your help."
"You killed someone?" He asked, sending my heart racing immediately.
Pushing my hands forward with a frightened voice, I said, "It's not that, it's something else." I ratted out, trying to steady my heavy breathing.
"Oh! I was thinking you came to confess to murdering someone, that's why you are finding it difficult to speak." He said in a joking manner.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed my hand into my hair, shutting my eyes.
"Do you need another loan? I can give that to you, you don't have to…"
"That's not it!" I snarled.
"Then spill! Your silence is driving me crazy." He scoffed, placing his cup against his lips only to spit out the scalding liquid the next second.
"That was hot!" Feeling guilty for making him scald himself, I quickly apologized to him but he waved me off.
"What do you want? I will try my best to help the best way I can." He said with a mild tone.
Without wasting further time, I went ahead to tell him everything that has ensued between me and Lance who was bent on partnering with me.
"You should give him a chance." He said, shrugging, he added, "Through this, you will be able to take revenge for what he and your sister did, don't you think?"
"I don't want that." I muttered, fiddling with my fingers.
Revenge was my initial response to this but over the years, I realized that revenge was only going to compound to my problems and so I discarded the idea.
"I doubt if he knows you are in charge of the company, I doubt if he would want to have anything to do with you."
"Please, I need your help. My sweat and everything I have worked for is about to crush down right before my eyes, please you have to help me."
"What exactly do you want me to do?" He asked the one question I didn't have a response to.
Biting my lower lips, I began to fiddle with my fingers, darting my eyes around as I tried to come up with a suggestion but I couldn't.
Frustrated, I exhaled, shifting my attention towards him.
"I don't know! Please you have to come up with something, anything to save my business." I rapped.
"You wouldn't want me to go out of business right? If I do, there is no way I will be able to pay you back your money." I rapped.
"Are you trying to blackmail me here?" He laughed.
"No! That's not it." I said at once. I couldn't afford to spoil my chances.
"Well, I'm going to help you but that is on one condition." He fell back on the couch, crossing his legs.
