Khloe's POV
Looking at the dress on the bed, I returned my gaze to the mirror and this was how it continued for a while.
Dammit!
How did I get here?
Snapping my eyes shut, I let out a low whine as I cranked my head to the side.
Despite all the tactics I pulled, to make Nevian exempt me from accompanying him to a family dinner, it didn't go through.
Just like he said the previous day that he was going to send my dress, jewelry and shoes to my bedroom, I returned to find a large paper bag from one of the biggest fashion industries in the country on my bed when I returned from work earlier.
Merely looking at the dress, I knew at once that it must have cost several tens of thousands of dollars.
"It's just day 1, I still have a long way to go." I groaned, grabbing my head with both hands only to double over as I began to tug my hair.
"Hey! Khloe, we are running late." I heard Nevian's voice in the hallway and immediately, I began to get ready for dinner.
After strapping my last heel, I rose, peering at myself in the mirror as a smile appeared on my lips.
It had been a while since I dressed up and so I was scared I wouldn't be able to do my makeup properly but I did.
Blowing a kiss at my reflection on the mirror, I picked up my purse and with my phone in my other hand, I proceeded out of my bedroom.
When I didn't see Nevain lurking around, I was relieved as I was too shy to face him.
Cautiously, I made my way down the stairs and just when I was about to get off, Nevian walked through the door, donned in a navy blue three piece suit.
Immediately our eyes jammed, I missed my steps but before I could fall to the ground, he caught me, helping me balance.
"Are you alright?" He asked, eliciting a nod from me as I quickly disentangled from his touch.
"You look good." His deep baritone carried a hint of sincerity that couldn't be missed, causing my heart to flutter.
"Thank you." I replied and with a mild tone added, "You don't look bad either."
You look super hot — I screamed in my head, drooling at his nice physique that his suit couldn't hide.
His hair which he had parted to the side gave him the look of a gentleman and not a playboy which I had always considered him to be even though I had no proof of that.
Considering his wealth and nice body, I was pretty sure he had dated here and there, flirted, broken a lot of hearts and done a lot of horrible things to women who couldn't resist his type.
When we got to the garage, I was overwhelmed with the amount of expensive rides that were all over the place.
"Sir, the engine is running perfectly fine now." Someone said and immediately, I turned around, recognizing the driver who had hit me, hence serving as the link between me and Nevian.
"We should get going then." Nevian placed his hand around my waist and then led me to the east end of the garage.
As a gentleman, he opened the door for me and only got in when I was securely inside.
Seated next to him in the passenger's seat of his car, I tried to keep a straight face but my eyes kept darting to his direction.
His strong cologne was pulling me towards him, making me fantasize hugging him tightly to drink in the nice fragrance.
"Is there a problem?" His voice broke into my line of thoughts only then did I realize I had been staring at him.
Oh dear! What have I done — I gulped, keeping a straight face while he let out a low chuckle that made me clench and unclench my fists.
After what seemed like forever, the driver pulled up in front of a magnificent building that I couldn't take my eyes from.
The building screamed riches, not to talk if the cars that were littered all over the place.
And then the gorgeously dressed couples who were walking hand in hand into the building also caught my attention.
Slipping his hand around my waist, Nevian pulled me to himself and with his lips grazing my neck which sent my heart racing, he whispered, "You're the most beautiful lady here."
Gulping, I wiped off the beads of perspiration that had gathered on my forehead.
When he finally pulled away, he smirked, "I know you are good at acting, put that skill into use today." He whispered.
He had barely finished speaking when an elderly man who was followed by two pairs of muscular men made his way towards us.
On a closer look at him, I saw the striking resemblance between him and Nevian and this was confirmed when Nevian called him father.
"Son!" He pulled him into a hug and after a while, he pulled away.
Shifting his attention to me, he made my heart skip several beats as I fiddled with my fingers, unsure of what to say.
"Khloe Marshal, I'm glad that I could finally meet you in person." He said, laughter erupting from his lips.
Still trying to remember where we had met that he got to learn my name from, he said, "Nevian had told me so much about you making me want to meet with you immediately but he never allows that."
Casting Nevian a quick look, I returned my gaze to his father, exposing my perfect set of dentition.
"He has told me a lot about you too and I'm grateful we are finally able to meet after a year." I said, a bright smile etched on my lips.
The excitement on this man's face made me rethink my decision of fooling him and immediately I began to feel bad.
"You're welcome home daughter, we have a whole lot of things to talk about." He said, patting my shoulder before swirling in the direction of the building.
Just when I wanted to lash at Nevian, my eyes fell on a couple whom I dreaded.
