Nevian's POV
My hopes were almost crashing against the hard rock when she suddenly turned around, showing off the screen of her phone.
Because of the distance between us, I couldn't see what she was showing me but with the look on her face, I was certain it was unpleasant.
"Please, you have to help me." She cried. Rushing back to the table, she grabbed it with all her might and with her full gaze on me, she said, "I will end up going out of business."
"I don't know what Lance is up to but I'm certain that whatever it is that he is on is of no good and…"
"I already stated my condition, it's up to you to consent to it and then I will extend my help towards you." I said with a coy smile on my lips.
Once again my hopes have returned and I sincerely pray it doesn't get dashed again.
Clenching and unclenching her fists, she began to pace about while I used my eyes to follow her every move.
The frustrated look on her face did nothing but to make her cute, making my lips break into a smile as my eyes never went off her.
Falling back on my seat with my hands crossed on my chest, the only thought ringing in my head was how I was going to make her fall for me during the duration of the contract.
Khloe Marshall, you're mine — I thought, my smile getting broader only for my heart to stop beating for a moment when she suddenly swirled to face me.
Walking towards me, she leaned over the table and with a deep frown etched on her face, she asked, "I would be free to get a divorce after a year, right?"
"Yeah!" I nodded and immediately, she pulled out her pen and then placed her signature on the designated area.
Chuckling now, I had the contract in front of me as I swirled around, my heart bubbling with so much joy that I couldn't contain it.
"It's not funny!" She rolled her eyes as she grabbed her purse off the table.
"I will be needing your address so I can send my driver to come pick up your personal belongings." I said only for her frown to deepen.
Parting her lips to speak, she couldn't make a sound even after several attempts and once again, she had no choice but to put down her address.
"Nice doing business with you, Mrs. Allerick." I chuckled. "You can leave Lance to me, I will handle him while you watch in comfort."
My sweet words didn't calm her down, instead she continued fuming with anger only to slam the door shut when she stormed out of my office.
Excited, I hit my chair and then began to fist pump the air. This was a dream come through for me and it is worth celebrating.
"One year, Nevian. You need just one year to make her yours." I shrieked, hitting my hands in excitement.
Still drunk with excitement, the door creaked open and Alfred walked in.
"Seems someone just won a lottery." He said as he proceeded into my office.
"Not a lottery, something huge than that." I laughed, plopping on my seat and then began to swirl around.
For the rest of the work hours, I was so giddy with excitement that my concentration level was poor. I literally didn't do anything the rest of the day for fear of making mistakes that would make me repeat my task.
On getting home that day, I didn't pull my feet into my home like I always did after a long day at work, rather, I was in my heels.
"Where is Khloe?" I asked immediately as I got into the living room.
"She is yet to return." The butler said with his hands folded in front of him.
"What are you talking about?" I asked with a raised brow. While I was still at the office, I was informed of her arrival and so I was expecting to see her at home when I returned.
"She didn't tell us where she was heading, she just got into her car and then zoomed off." He replied.
Worried that she might be up to something, I quickly pulled my phone out of my pocket to put a call across to her only for the door to creak open, revealing her doe eyes.
"Excuse me." The butler said and after a curt bow, he took his leave.
Now left with Khloe who was glaring at me with her hands strapped across her chest, I took a step forward only to halt after a second step.
"You don't look good, is anything the matter?" I asked, urging her to speak with my eyes.
"I'm yet to come to terms with the contract." She rolled her eyes and just when I was about to close the gap between us, she pushed her hand forward.
"Remember, I have my term too."
"Which is?" Crossing my hands on my chest, I cranked my head to the side, itching to hear what she had to say.
"Apart from your father, no one should know about our relationship. It should remain a secret until the contract expires."
"Your wish is my command, my lady." With my hand resting on my chest, I did a curt bow.
Right in my head, I had imagined her rolling her eyes like she always did when she was displeased and when I raised my head, just like I thought, she was rolling her eyes.
She was about to cross to the other side of the living room which led to the hallway when I blocked her path.
"What is it this time around?" Crossing her hands on her chest, she howled, "Your rules are pushing me off."
"It's not a rule."
Taking a deep breath, I pushed my hand into my hair, "We are attending our first function as couples tomorrow."
"What?" She gasped, her face was horror filled.
