Chapter 5 - Ch.5 A terrifing beast.

Waking up, he rubbed his eyes as he put those memories aside. After a simple wash with the river water he had bought, he heated some meat.

"Still tasteless as ever."

Complaining he stood up and started to sharpen his spear and the small weapons he had made from the horns of the one-horned demonic rat.

Putting on the makeshift leather armor, he filled the leather pouch with water as he collected all his weapons.

"Another day for another hunt."

Although his current food and water supply will easily allow him to survive for the remaining 15 days, he doesn't want to be mediocre in the future.

Although all the beasts that have been met by the members of the chat can be hunted it doesn't mean they won't face stronger monsters in the future.

After all, wishing for peace and stability in this new, unknown, and dangerous world will be foolishness.

Plus the only way for Nexus to be stronger currently is to hunt monsters and eat their meat. So with a show of physical might he quickly climbed a hundred meters down.

As his feet touched the ground he didn't stop to look around but rushed toward a chosen direction. He has explored 1 km on all sides so it's time for him to expand his exploration zone.

The forest was quiet and being already used to this quietness he didn't give it a second thought. After a while, he reached the 1 km mark before crossing it.

There was no change and his surroundings were still dark and filled with trees and green bushes. For some reason, he still hasn't found any flowers or other plants.

Also, another fact he discovered is that the mud and dirt in the area are pitch black with a somewhat foul smell.

He traveled another 1 km and the jungle's quietness followed him, but this time this quietness tensed his nerves.

Something wasn't right here, it was too quiet and he hadn't found a single one-horned demonic rat.

Taking out the organs of the rat he had wrapped in a skin bundle he threw it into the ground and rushed up a tree.

1 minute.

Nothing happened...

10 minutes passted...

Nothing happened again, the jungle was quiet and sweat started to dip from Nexus's face. Normally tens of rats should have surrounded that pile of organs by now but no rat appeared.

"F#ck me!"

Silently cursing he picked up a direction and started to rush toward his home base, today wasn't the for him to hunt and if he stayed he might as well become the prey.

After all, there is only one reason why all those beasts disappeared... a stronger predator had appeared in the area.

On his way back from the corner of his eyes he saw a small wooden chest in the bushes, it was dirty and didn't have any locks.

While still running at full speed he made a small detour and got closer to the chest, with just a meter of gap between them he commanded the system.

'Open the chest'

[System Notice: Congratulations on opening a wooden chest, you got a low-tier fire crystal(5), Low-tier time crystal(5), and Lesser spiritual treasure: Piercers bow, piercers arrow(12)]

Seeing the reward a smile appeared on his face, he finally got a treasure from one of these wooden chests. His luck really is shit, finally, after the twentieth wooden chest, he got a treasure.

"I will show you Noir"

He muttered as he remembered all the mocking words of Noir as she showed her smugness with all the spirit treasure she had gotten.

As for the crystals, well he had a lot of them, except for the space and time crystals others can be counted in thousands.

It even has become a standard currency among the people in the chat, although no one knows its use just its name can show its importance.

'Except for the bow and arrow, put all the things on the base.'

After his command, a bow appeared in his hand, and the arrows were in the place where he kept the small spears.

Looking at the wooden bow with complex patterns he didn't stop to admire its beauty as he tied it to his back.

Holding the spear in his hands he started to sprint with even greater speed, his senses were warning him.

Something is coming...

"Rwrrrrrrrrr!!!!"

And it wasn't wrong, an angry cry of a one-horned demonic rat came from behind, but it was somewhat different.

This roar held more power and gave one a feeling of dread as if death was just around the corner. The ground shook as he felt the beast approaching behind him.

"Ahhg!"

Without even looking back, with a mighty shout he rolled to the side avoiding the deadly crisis. He caught a glimpse of it, a large black figure ramming past the place he was previously in.

Bammmmmmm!

It directly hit the giant tree in front of it without stopping, dust cloud rose as the sound of something being crushed was heard.

Taking out the bow he loaded it with an arrow as he looked at the cloud of dust with vigilant piercing eyes.

Something unbelievable happened, the tree that was hundreds upon hundreds of meters tall with a trunk with a thickness of more than 50 meters started to lean on one side.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

With a thundering roar, it fell as it hit the ground creating winds that could blow away stones from the ground.

To be safe from the wind he hid behind another tree and hugged it with all his might, after a while the wind stopped.

Taking out the bow and loading it with the arrow again he looked at the source of this calamity, he knew that he couldn't run from this monstrosity.

As he looked at the base of the fallen tree he finally saw sunlight and the blue sky above it, but with it, he saw a horrifying monster.

Illuminated by the sunlight a rat, the size of a horse with claws sharper than any beast on his home planet could have.

Its bloody mouth with rows upon rows of sharp teeth not even hidden by its lip and three giant black-colored horns on its head.

"It seems the world heard that I was having an easy time so it's sent this abomination."

Although he said it in a joking tone his face was tense as he pulled the string harder, the patterns on the bow glowed a neon blue color as he released the arrow aiming at its head.

The arrow flying through the sky made a piercing sound, and although the beast also heard it due to its size it couldn't avoid it completely.

Still due to its little movement the arrow missed the head and pierced right through one of its thighs.

"Rwrrrrrrrrrr!!"

Roaring in pain the beast turned its red glowing eyes filled with anger toward Nexus, feeling its gaze Nexus's body tensed up even more but he didn't panic.

"If it can bleed, it can be killed."

Muttering that he took out another arrow but how could the rat just sit there and let Nexus attack him again?

Although the arrow to the thigh slowed down its speed, but not care about the pain like a speeding car it slammed the area where Nexus was.

Nexus dodged in quite quickly as thanked the rat for its stupidity in his head, using the bow he fired another arrow.

It hit the rat's neck as black blood flooded out, the rat screamed in bloody pain as it clawed toward Nexus.

It missed Nexus again as the claw hit another tree leaving a large and deep claw mark, another arrow pierced through its neck.

The rat's eyes became noticeably sluggish as it lost even more blood.

Just as Nexus was starting to rejoice the rats like a whip slammed onto his chest sending him flying in the air.

Hitting a tree with a thud sound he fell to the ground leaning against the tree, coughing up blood he held his chest in pain.

Just that one blow almost killed him, if not for his leather armor he would have died with just that one attack.

Even if he managed to damage the rat due to its stupidity the gap in physical strength was huge enough that the fight was decided in a single move.

Feeling the pain in his body he tried to move his hand but he barely could, his body had gone into shock.

Bleeding from his nose, ears, and eyes he looked like a dying man, and if not for his improved physique the broken ribs near his chest and lungs could have killed him.

Seeing its prey condition the rat grinned as it started to sprint toward the fallen Nexus. Seeing the rat sprinting toward him unwillingness flashed through his eyes.

LIVE!!!

Remembering his parent's last words, he gritted his teeth as he moved his body with the might of his will.

Picking up the bow he loaded another arrow and fired it, having used up all his remaining physical strength his eyes closed as he fell unconscious.
