Shaw and his friends came to the mess hall. I was on the ceiling and mom had just jabbed me with the broom. I told her that I will be down in a moment. I climbed down and extended my senses. The door opened and werewolves walked in silver collars. I gave them a bow as I noticed Cain. Mom grabbed me and pulled me away. I told her that she has nothing to worry about. I met him a few times and he hasn't harmed me once. I nudge mom to sit down. I ran at the speed of light towards Cain. I grabbed his collar and ripped it in two. The other werewolves grinned. I helped Cain's second in command. I asked if the others could control themselves. He gave me his word and I cut them loose. As thanks he offered his men as additional security. The humans present were shocked that werewolves were polite and courteous.
When the army came the humans stood in front of them. Saying that their madness ends here. We will work together. Annie's mom preferred human only policy until her daughter said that if it weren't for me she would be dead. She stood down. I told the military that I will count to ten and I will disarm them. They thought I was joking till I stripped them of all their weapons under 3 seconds. Cain chuckled, "That was fast" I pursed my lips, "That was my slowest speed. I actually go thirty times faster" The other werewolves grinned. The military decided to truce. Both sides discussed terms. I was off limits no matter what.
I walked in to see Cain having a chat with the general. I smiled, "I am on the first watch with the civilians." Cain chuckled, "Of course" The general had other ideas. He was ordered, "I want her to come with me for the routine specimen collection" I laughed, "Not on your life buddy. I am not anywhere with you. I don't trust you." Sonja came and I walked away with her. I sat down with my legs crossed. My brother came with his buddies. Mom wasn't happy with the idea. One of Shaw's buddies retorted, "She is asleep. How do you expect her to keep an eye on anything." I raised my index finger. I took a deep breath and gave a full inventory of everything on their person. Mom took a sharp breath as the others stared at me in horror. Cain asked me to join him on the wall.
I asked to wait till my friends were asleep. Cain had no issues but the human next to him had itchy trigger fingers. I gave him the look of death and he backed away. Cain and his friends said they can wait. They took itchy with them. When I was certain that my friends were asleep I ran to where Cain was. The soldiers stared down at me. I swear they were laughing at me till I jumped up and flew into the air. A few shrieks and chuckles later I touched down next Cain and asked him if the zombies were bundling to form a sort of ladder down below was bothering him. He looked down and said that it will be a problem when it is able to climb up and start eating. One actually found a way to climb up. I grabbed his head flew into the air and dropped him on a bunch of loose cinder blocks.
When I came back the others gave me a nod of approval while I sat on the wall trying to figure out my next move. Cain sat on my right while mom on my left. She was about to say something when I extended my senses and found Batou. I jumped off the wall and shot off like a bullet. I heard my mom cry in fear at first and then gasp in shock. I found him and his fiance inside a soup kitchen of all places. I first carried Batou and came back for his lady. Both of them took a moment before mom explained what was going on. I sat on the wall and Cain asked me not to do that since people are likely to set traps. I promised that this is the last time I would do that. I did it because Batou is like a father to me. He helped my mom raise me when I was sick. I thought it would be rude to let him die. Cain smiled, "Gratitude is appreciated but next time be careful" I promised I would be more careful.
I laid down on the wall and stared at the sky wondering what I should do? Should I leave with the girls and a few others. Where will we go? The chompers were everywhere. So a safe haven would be near impossible. I was about to space out when I heard screeching and wailing. I looked down to see the zombies were trying to climb up the wall again. I asked the soldiers to shoot it. The men opened fire but still one managed to get up. It froze when it saw me. For some reason it behaved like I was a brick wall. The soldier behind him stabbed him in the neck and threw him overboard. He gave me a look to say that I was useless. I ignored him as I tried to figure out my next move.
In the morning I asked Cain if he could give self defense lessons. His friends said yes. My lesson was simple the werewolves gave me a drop of blood. I memorized the fighting style and replaced it as though I am a child prodigy. The humans were watching with curiosity but the moment I saw Annie's mom I knew trouble was brewing. We had a sparing match till Irene woke up. I thanked them for their help and ran to spend time with my friends. Mom and the others understood my priority was them and mom. Everyone else was along for the ride. We had breakfast, showered and did the laundry. Batou was snickering the entire time and so was mom. I gave them both the shut up face and helped.
I was walking to the mess hall when I heard one of the guards say he heard something in the walls. I used echolocation to find out that these beasties had used the sewers and found a way into the subbasement level. They were trying to get to the upper decks. I slowly walked out and asked the man to open the gates. He gave me a dirty look before he complied. I walked out and the zombies got out of the way as I searched for something that worked. I found a school bus and saw that it had a full tank of gas. I searched the place for zombies and came back with the bus. The gate opened to let me in.
The warden had questions. How I can walk amongst those things without them trying to eat me. Is it possible to transfer the ability to others and many more. I only told him that I had debilitating illness once upon a time but the change to hybrid made it dormant. The illness is still there but now it protects me instead. That's all I am willing to say. I told the girls to gather what things they could. They knew the building was compromised but not to the exact extent. I didn't have to say much since the basement was used to doing illegal experiments. Zombies were in cages but they could escape at any time. I made sure Annie and her mom were distracted before we left.
We packed our bags and walked out in a single file. Our moms sat on board with us. They had the 'We will talk about this later face'. Batou and his lady followed as well. We asked the man to open the gates and he refused flat out. The warden concurred. I grinned and used super speed to press the button and slash the tires of the military vehicles. I took a moment to destroy their drone. The sound it makes hurts my ear. I happily hopped on the driver's seat. I stepped on the gas and drove off. The people screamed their disapproval as we left them. Cain and the other werewolves came with us. After some time Cain asked me to drop him and his friends by the woods. I on the other hand told everyone to wait here till I get the supplies. I ransacked the entire city and came back with a week's worth of supplies. I tried to split the supply but the werewolves said they didn't need it. They wished me well and disappeared into the woods.
Alice asked me what was going on. I told her that I extended my senses and found out that zombies have found their way into the subbasement level and are trying to get to the top. If we had stayed there we would have had their breakfast, lunch and dinner. This information had the adults asking questions about my abilities which I decided to keep quiet about. We drove till the gas ran out and we had to find an alternative means of transportation. I extended my hearing with echolocation and heard about a train that is transporting people to a safe haven. The currency accepted was either food or medical supplies.
I zipped out to find the train and discovered that it will reach us in an hour. So I ran back and told the others about this place. Irene needed assurance. But once everyone was certain this wasn't a trap they collected the supplies and started walking. We got to the train station as the steam train came into view. A man wearing a baseball cap, shorts and torn t-shirt hopped on to the platform. I gave him a bag of seeds, a few canned goods, and a box of hot chocolate and a first aid kit. He checked the expiration date. He checked our temperatures before he asked us to climb aboard. We had an entire cabin at the very end to ourselves. The walkie talkie we had shouted reports about approaching zombies. Mom looked sad as she watched the bridge that we just crossed had got blown up to smithereens for safety reasons. It means the train won't be going back for anyone else.
I stood guard as we passed town after town. I made sure to disembark quietly to acquire things that we might need. Edible and medical plants are amongst them. Mom thought I was nuts till she saw where I was planning to call home. The others seemed happy with the idea. We stopped at the area designated for farms. We bought land and started to work. We built fences and houses. Also we bought a few weapons for our protection. Irene and Sonja had fun sleeping in tents. Like I said I haven't slept a wink since I injected myself with this thing. Batou and mom worked as authorities. The rest of us chose farm work. We had each other. We can survive this apocalypse.
