There was a bright light shining through the lids of my eyes.
"Kaleb, can you hear me?" A woman's voice said as I opened my eyes. The woman immediately wrapped her arms around me and whimpered. Knowing what happened, I could tell this woman knew who I was. The problem was that I couldn't tell who she was to me. Was she my girlfriend? Or my sister; she could've been my mother by looking at her facial features.
"I'm sorry but, I don't know who you are," I said, this caused her to pull away from me and call for a doctor. When she stepped out of the room, I glanced over at the lamp sitting in the corner, and for a brief moment, I swore I could see a feint energy emerging from it. I became curious and wanted a closer look.
The energy was distorting the light around it. I tried walking over to it but my legs felt like jelly to my surprise. At the same time, using different objects to get within proximity of the lamp. Once I got close enough, I could feel a strange sensation. This sensation made my body move on its own. I touched the lamp and the power went out, I flung across the room, and before my body went to sleep, one of my memories began flooding in gradually.
"He might be experiencing post-traumatic amnesia, Ma'am."
"Will his memory ever return?"
"Given the seriousness, there's no telling if it will be days, weeks, or even months."
My mother's voice followed by an older man's voice conversed until I woke up and let out a weak, "M-Mom."
My mother rushed to my side and said, "Kaleb, your memory is back?"
I sat upright and looked around momentarily before saying, "Not quite, I remember that you are my mother, and what has happened since I've woken up, but that seems to be all I can remember."
"So you don't remember your father or your siblings?" She asked troublingly.
I shook my head and said, "No."
The doctor could see that this moment was a bit tense and said, "I'll give y'all a moment." And he left the room.
"Mom, what happened to me?" I asked. She paused for a moment before saying, "You were out with your friends at a lake party, and from what your friends told me and what the doctors said, you experienced head trauma from an object falling from the sky."
When she said that, another memory came back. I recall a red sphere-like object and a giant body of water. Something was stopping me from remembering.
"Kaleb, the doctors said that you should've died. The object that hit you, should've killed you on impact."
She added, "You have been out for a month now."
"Mom, I want to go home," I said.
"I know sweety but the doctors want you to stay one more night to make sure nothing bad happens to you," She said while soothing me.
Hours later, my mother had to go home to attend to some family business. Meanwhile, the nurse watching over me rolled in a TV for me to preoccupy myself. I found myself on the news channel looking at what's going on recently.
The news anchor sounded as peppy as can be, and said, "Good evening San Diego citizens, today superhero, Velo Hawk took on Mr. Magnetic in a death match. Mr. Magnetic sunk a cruise ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. For what reason we do not know, but from the criminal investigation report, the renowned, Dr. Apauex was on that cruise."
I turned the TV off and just sat in the dim lighting. The TV gave off a kind of puffy type of energy. My curiosity led to me placing my hand on the screen and a sudden jolt was felt throughout my body. The room lights fluctuated for moments, but the lighting became too bothering for me to handle. My body was being overwhelmed by a rush of energy.
My body couldn't hold it in. I felt like I was about to explode. I slammed my hand on the ground and the ground shook violently. The next thing I remember was waking up in a mysterious room surrounded by a bunch of posters and action figures. I sat upright and looked at the digital clock and the time was noon.
Just like everything else, there was a faint energy emitting from it. I rubbed my eyes and hopped out of bed. Next, I inspected the room for a moment. I found a photo of a family. In the photo, there were five people. Myself, my mother, a man who might be my father, and two others who might be my siblings.
After that, I looked at all of the posters and action figures. There was one that caught my eye, this hero's name was Astrion. There was a comic lying next to the figurine, after a short glance through the comic, I could conclude that this hero's abilities include, flight, super strength, and shock absorption.
My door opened and the man from the picture walked in.
"Kaleb, you're awake," He said as he walked into the room.
"If you're wondering, I don't remember who you are," I mentioned.
He chuckled and said," Don't worry, your mother already told me you don't remember much."
He placed his hand out, signaling me to shake his hand before saying, "My name is Marcus Young, I am your Father."
I shook his hand and said, "I am Kaleb." He chuckled once more and said that he knew.
He asked me how I was holding up since the accident. I explained to him that I was slowly regaining my memories and that I was starting to lose the numbness in my head. He was happy to hear this.
"Well, I thought I should at least re-introduce myself," He said as he began to exit my room.
I walked down the hallway and the right side of the hall was covered in family portraits. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't remember. I guess this is my fate, I need to find my nexus in all of this.
