My mom shouted, "You what!?" I didn't expect her to react that way, I was hoping that she was going to be somewhat happy.
"Please don't be mad," I said before I explained that I wanted to say something but I didn't know what to do or how to say it. She took a deep breath and asked my siblings if they had any powers as well. They of course didn't so they said no, but I noticed something about my sister that I'd never seen before. She had a feint but visible aura around her, it reminds me of the energy I see from objects like outlets or light switches.
I kept it to myself and said, "Mom, this is a good thing, I was born this way and I shouldn't have to hide it from the world, this is what makes me, me."
She wasn't pleased by this and said, "Kaleb, it may seem like this generation is a bit different than mine, but anything that deals with metahumans never ends on a good note."
"What about Sentinel Solutions, they want people like us to stop people who abuse their power, you heard the news just like we did," I argued.
"Kaleb, I don't want you to get involved with The Harbingers of Doom," She said.
"Why not!?" My voice echoed.
This frightened her and then, she stood close to me and said, "Remember, I can get rid of them again. You don't want this." She then left my room and my sister said, "What just happened?"
I shrugged it off and asked them to leave but they wanted to ask me a question.
My brother asked, "Do you know if we can get our gift back?" Followed by Aaliah saying, "Yeah, do you know if it's possible?"
"Look, I wish I knew. I don't even fully remember how mine even came back. All I remember is that I was at a lake and something hit me, then I woke up with no memory," I said.
"Maybe if we visit your earliest memory, we can figure it out," Aaliah mentioned.
"Mom wouldn't let us do that," I added.
"Well she doesn't need to know, dufus," she said.
"Wait a second, think, what if she checks on us?" Booker asked.
I took a moment to think it over and said, "Even if we do figure it out, it's not like we can do anything with them, you heard what Mom said."
"Yeah I don't know about this Aaliah, I don't want to be on the bad side of Mom," Booker mentioned.
Aaliah told Booker to stop being a coward and he said, "I'm not a coward."
Something about this exchange was interesting, I could feel how Booker felt about this. He didn't like what she said. He shoved her and said, "Stop calling me that."
She didn't like his response and said, "Well maybe if you weren't such a pussy, you might have purpose."
I could feel his anger skyrocket and he said, "You're such a bitch Aaliah."
I snapped my neck to her because the aura I saw on her became more noticeable.
"Do not call me that," She said as she was charging up a punch. I hopped in front of her and when she unleashed her strike, it slammed on my chest, and electricity shot from her fist and my body immediately absorbed it.
"Woah," Aaliah said before she admired her hands as electricity flowed from her wrists to her hands.
"Were you trying to kill him?" I asked.
"I didn't know I could do that," She replied.
My brother admired her powers, but I could feel some sadness within him. He seems a bit envious.
"I have to use the restroom," Booker said.
Aaliah said she was going to her room to experiment. I could feel Booker's emotions all over the place. I knocked on the bathroom door and said, "I know you don't have to use the restroom, open the door, man."
He opened the door and I brought him into my arms and said, "I know how you feel, you feel like an outlier and you shouldn't, look, come to my room and we can talk about it."
He didn't say a word and just nodded.
I started by saying, "I know this is a lot to take in right now. Both Aaliah and myself have powers and you're the only one without."
"It isn't fair. Why is it always me that's last for everything?" He asked aloud.
"Booker, the only thing I can ask of you is to be patient with your gift. Remember, Mom took them away, but keep in mind, that it is a part of you," I added.
I placed my hand on his shoulder and a warm sensation and Immediately released my hand.
"What?" He asked
"I don't know, I felt something strange is all," I said.
"Just keep your head up and don't be like Aaliah and lash out on someone OK?" I asked.
He nodded, and we wrapped this conversation. When he left, I sat at my desk and wrote down what just happened. This might be more complicated than I thought.
