The door sounded with a knock followed by my mother's voice saying, "Kaleb, I need you to come downstairs."
She then walked off and I thought, what could she want? I followed her downstairs and into the living room. She sat on the couch and asked me to have a seat.
"Mom, what's happening with dad?" I asked and immediately realized that I shouldn't have.
The look of shock covered her face and with that, she asked me how I heard the conversation. I remained silent for a moment to gather my thoughts.
"I overheard when I walked by earlier," I said momentarily.
"How much did you hear?" She asked,
"I know why he left, I know how y'all feel about it as well."
She nodded and said, "Kaleb, we must leave before something bad happens."
"Mom, I'm not trying to take sides, but I know in your heart you know that he was right."
She sighed and agreed.
"Uh... Do I have powers like dad? I mean I am his kid, it's only right," I asked.
"The problem with that is we decided to get rid of them because we wanted you to live a better lifestyle," She mentioned.
"But what about the choice?" I asked her. She paced around the room and said, "Trust me, this life is not one you want."
I kept my powers to myself and said, "That's not fair to us. What about our choice? I know we were babies but it's a part of who we are."
She remained quiet for a moment, and there was a sudden knock on the door. My mom went to open the door and a woman with blond hair stood on the other side.
"Sabrina?" The woman said curiously.
"Who are you?" My mom asked.
"You don't remember me? Arcana." She added.
"Arcana, you're alive? My mother asked.
She allowed her to come inside and brought her to the living room.
"I thought that Emberix killed you so long ago," My mother mentioned. "I thought that you died," Arcana replied.
Arcana explained that she came to find her to re-assemble, "The Team" This sparked my curiosity and I asked, "You had a team?"
My mom said, "Listen, I know what was said long ago, but I have a family now."
Arcana's eyes gleamed and said, "I thought you had your..." She cut herself off and my mom looked a bit confused. I knew one thing for sure, Arcana knew something she shouldn't have.
"Look, I know how you feel about it but the world needs people like us. Now more than ever," Arcana expressed. My mom started pacing again and Arcana added that she wanted to come sooner but there were complications.
"Arcana, do you know how dangerous The Harbingers of Doom are?" My mom asked before Arcana replied that it didn't matter how strong they were and that it only mattered how strong we were together.
Our phones suddenly sounded and it was a public announcement from the Department of Homeland Security.
The message read, "Dear metahumans, this message is directly from the DHLS, on behalf of Sentinel Solutions. This is the director of Sentinel Solutions, Good evening metahumans, my name is Joe Wann, and I am the director of Sentinel Solutions. Now I know that this message is spontaneous, but you possess a gift that no other person on this earth can imagine.
But gifts are an important responsibility, and, believe me, the world needs responsible individuals more than ever. Due to recent circumstances, The Harbingers of Doom have become a blight of danger in our peace. This is why we must use our gifts to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
We're not just asking you to join an organization. We're asking you to join a team, one with purpose, one with principles. If you're ready to use your powers for something greater than yourself, to be the first line of defense against those who misuse their abilities, then Sentinel Solutions is ready to stand with you. Join us, and help us show the world that metahumans can be the heroes they need."
The message was concluded and my mom said, "Sentinel Solutions, I remember this from when we were teens. They were misusing people like us, why do they now want to broadcast that they need us?"
"Probably using this as an opportunity to use us in broad daylight," Arcana said.
"Do you think they can bring back our powers?" I asked.
They both said, "Absolutely not."
"Sabrina, look, I know it was the past and this superhero life isn't the best, but the world needs people like us," Arcana said as she took her leave. She left my mom her number and a location where she could find her.
My mom didn't say anything and went to her room and locked herself inside. I can only assume this means that we aren't moving anymore. I returned to my room and had to get this off my mind, so I put it in a notebook. The sound of my brother's voice said, "I know he was in a coma, but he doesn't act like himself anymore. I miss the him that knew us."
My sister's voice says, "Mom said that the doctors said that there is a chance that they can come back."
With all of this being said, I could feel the emotion behind their words. It was a strange sensation, similar to my first encounter with my powers. I could feel like I was there with them. Suddenly, my room began shifting around me, my room transformed into my brother's room. I could see both my brother and sister as they talked. Something I noticed was that they couldn't see me.
I joined them and sat down. They talked about what happened with Dad and Mom, they also mentioned a theory about them having powers.
"Maybe Kaleb knows, we should ask him," they said as they rushed to my room.
I tried to make my room change back but I remembered that I didn't know how.
My door knob shook followed by my sibling's voices. I grabbed the knob and was immediately electrocuted. My room transformed back and my siblings burst into my room.
From their perspective, it looked like I was having a seizure, but in all reality, I was being electrocuted. They shouted for our mom and she was there almost immediately. She read the room and noticed what was happening. She looked around my room, saw my grounding bands, and carefully put them on my hands. The electricity grounded and she asked what happened.
I took a moment to catch my breath and said, "I have powers."
