Chapter 15 - Bea's Support

Night comes to Fallholt. We find Kol in his usual spot by the tree behind the orphanage. Ripping a blank page from his spell book and quickly replacing it with the page he received from Ross.

(Intelligence D20 roll) – 17

Enticed by his curiosity, Kol quickly memorized the spell's recipe. The spell Ross gave was a blank Recipe, it only bore the name of the spell and its runes. Unlike Peter's this page didn't have notes or insights regarding the spell.

After minor adjustments, Kol quickly recites the spell listed on the page. The magic circle coiling around Kol's palm shatters a second after it's created. Kol's hand surged with power, ready to be thrown or ejected. Kol aimed his hand towards his favorite experiment rock and let the magic lose. Faster than a dew drop falling from the leaf it was perched onto the ground. The rock is pelted by 3 fast purple butterflies. The rock now missing, a smile widens across Kol's face.

[Arcane shot]

[Blue EN: 7/10]

This is. This will be good. Kol thought to himself as he realized using an arcane shot in combination with his awareness buff. Maybe then will he have a fighting chance against his classmates.

No matter what I have to do my best. What about my curse? The curse just gave me an amazing buff that I can use permanently. Getting stronger doesn't just mean learning powerful spells, I have to gather more buffs to support those spells. I just have to be careful not to get inflicted with a negative status. The thoughts echoed in Kol's mind, and eventually, he walked straight towards the orphanage.

I need more positive statuses, the best place to get those is from a cleric. Kol thought to himself as he found himself staring at 14 children around a dining table with Bea in the center, mid-chew.

"Kol. What's wrong? You look like you saw a ghost." Bea says as she brings a spoonful of food to a baby's mouth, his name is Erl the latest member of their family.

"Bea, I was thinking. Do you happen to know any white spells that can give someone a positive status?" Kol asked nervously as if the question was illegal.

Wiping the leftover food that dropped from the baby's mouth, "I only know of two, but like I said Kol. I can't teach you without the church's permission. I can only show…"

"Yes. I want to see them." Kol interrupted. "Use them on me."

A little while after dinner, Kol and Bea make their way towards the backyard. This time it was pitch black only illuminated by the torches both of them carried.

"May I ask why you're In such a rush to see my magic Kol?" Bea asked placing her torch in one of the stands on the side of the fence.

"In three days, we're supposed to have a duel. I'll be fighting both of my classmates." Kol said, placing his torch in one of the stands as well.

"Kol, I did not raise you to be a cheater. I refuse to give help." Bea says with a stern voice.

"No. I don't plan to cheat. Besides, like I said it's in 3 days." Kol replies.

"Oh, then why are you in such a hurry?"

"I was thinking of a strategy, but I kind of got stuck. Which is why I coming to you. I was hoping that your spell would inspire me or give me the boost in confidence I needed to complete my strategy." Kol said as he made sure to tell the truth but not the whole truth.

Bea has been with Kol from the moment he was left in a baby basket in front of the orphanage 15 years ago. Bea could tell if he was lying.

"Very well." Bea reaches for Kol's two hands and holds them. "I will be performing two spells. One Is a simple spell and the other is a 1st level spell."

"Understood."

Bea recites the first spell and a white arcane circle wraps around her hand. The coil lingers unlike what Kol was used to. It stays around her right hand; she then puts her thumb on Kol's head. The coil then breaks and Bea lets go of Kol's forehead.

Kol feels a warmth of energy rushing through him, making his thoughts clearer and more consistent.

"That spell will help you make better choices and give you a better outcome, although success in your choices or decisions is not guaranteed, it can increase the probability." She says with a smile. "I pray every night that Obedience will guide you."

The familiar sound of Kol's system opening right after Bea's spell made Kol happier.

[Guidance]

Once, before the spell ends. the next choice or decision you make of any kind has an increased probability of going in your favor. This spell doesn't affect combat.

[Duration: 1 minute] -> [Duration: Permanent]

'Stay calm. There's time for that later. We still have 1 more spell.'

"The next spell I will cast normally requires a bigger crowd, but it will still be cast on the both of us," Bea explains as the familiar white arcane coil surrounds her body, then Kol's.

Suddenly a rush of white energy flows through Kol, but then quickly dissipates. The spell was over.

"This should help you with practicing, it will not last but it is a great help whenever you're in a tough spot, especially in a fight."

The screen then prompts open in front of Kol. This time Kol couldn't contain his excitement and happiness.

"Thank you, Bea!" Hugging her tightly, Kol cherishes the moments she has helped him and this moment was no exception. "Thanks to you I feel more confident now."

"You're welcome." She says hugging him back. "Be sure to lock the door when come inside alright?" Bea says as she picks up her torch and walks towards the back door of the orphanage

. watching her leave, Kol then took another glance at what the system said.

[Blessed]
