Chapter 29 - 29. Andrew the director

Kevin was mindful that today was Andrew's last day on the set, and he arrived here to provide some unexpected news that he received from Sam while visiting the studio.

Then he informed Andrew that Sam has begun drafting two fresh movie scripts, one of which will be directed by Sam and the other handled by somebody else, adding that he had learned from Sam yesterday that he was thinking about allowing Andrew to direct the film since Sam was going to provide the storyboard.

Andrew was astonished and stunned when he learned Kevin's revelation; at that moment, he had completely forgotten about planning a holiday.

After chatting about another couple of gossips, Kevin said farewell and departed Andrew's room, understanding Andrew would be feeling fatigued after working all day.

Andrew was going to sleep when he received a call from Claire, Sam's assistant, who notified him of a meeting between him and Sam in one week's time.

He agreed to Claire's proposal of meeting with Sam; he felt blessed to have listened to Kevin because if he hadn't known about the content of the discussion with Sam, he would have turned down Claire's offer of meeting Sam since he had planned his holiday at that point and might have regretted it afterwards.

Although talent is crucial in the film industry, obtaining the opportunity to shine is particularly critical.

Hollywood doesn't ever run out of individuals, but everyone must possess the right moment to shine to make it big in this industry.

After a few days of anticipation, Sam and Andrew's meeting night arrives, while Andrew appears at the Lakeside restaurant half an hour earlier simply because he is afraid of missing out on this chance to impress.

Sam was unaware of Andrew's inner monologue throughout the last few days, even though he could have assured Andrew that he would only require a toolman to direct the movie according to his script and storyboards.

He is currently delighted with the completion of the script, by which he means changes and revisions, and he has provisionally scheduled the horror movie for early November and his musical/suspense movie for early May at the start of the summer season.

After watching the scenery outside the Lakeview Restaurant a few occasions, he determines to purchase it in order to transform it into an even better lakeside destination for dinners and discussions, however only for a select few individuals considering that he avoids having to be surrounded by unknowing individuals.

He makes his way to the garden area, opting to hold a discussion outdoors because he dislikes being restricted inside the four walls.

He presumed Andrew might be waiting for him, so he speeds up his pace and arrives at the open garden area half a minute later.

After asking the server to serve the BBQ steaks, she makes the necessary arrangements and departs a few minutes later.

While enjoying the steak and sipping some liquor, Sam asked Andrew if he would like to direct a movie.

Sam has written two scripts and needs somebody to take charge of at least one of them, so he thought about giving Andrew the opportunity to direct.

He has confidence in allowing Andrew to direct using the storyboard he has drawn since he recognizes the way he works and has previously collaborated with Andrew.

Andrew had already agreed in his heart when he first heard it from Kevin, but he was still pleased to hear it coming from Sam.

Sam also informed him that he would not receive a higher fee than he currently earns because it is a low-budget film.

And Andrew had no problem with that because money can be accumulated at any time, but having the chance to direct an independent movie does not come along very often.

Although the remuneration is slightly lower than his normal fees compared to assistant director, he is also grateful that he got a chance to share a percentage of the box office.

The next day, early in the morning, Andrew shows up at Sparkling Studios alongside his lawyer and an agent to sign the contract to direct the film.

In the conference room, Andrew's lawyer analyzes the draft handed over to his client by the studio's counsel, Jason Buttler, and signs the document after identifying there are no issues with it.

According to the agreement, he will be paid $1 million for his work in addition to 1% of the North American profits.

Although it is merely a faction, if the movie that he created succeeds in cinemas, his prospective contracts will only continue to expand.

After finalizing the agreement, Andrew dismissed his lawyer and agency back as he headed to meet Sam, who holds the film's script.

After signaling at Andrew to take a seat across from him, Sam provided him the script and storyboard and offered him to have a brief look at the script while resuming to begin modifying the draft of the script for his big-budget film.

Andrew quickly went through the screenplay and the storyboard, in addition to advising on the ideal filming locations.

After getting a preliminary understanding of the script, he had a fair idea about how he would shoot it.

Sam looked at Andrew, who had finished reading the script, and told him to take the script with him today and come back again in two days.

Andrew agreed and left the office happy, while Sam communicated with Lily and said he would be there to pick her up later that evening.
