Chapter 3 - CH3: The Wishmaker’s Choice

Alex stood at the mouth of the alley for what felt like hours, the figure's parting words echoing in his mind. The city hummed around him, oblivious to the earth-shaking decision that now lay on his shoulders. The streets, lit by the soft glow of streetlamps, were as ordinary as they had ever been. But the world Alex saw was no longer the same. Everything he thought he knew about his life, his limits, and his future had been shattered by that strange encounter.

The two wishes. His heart raced every time he thought about it. He knew that the moment he spoke those words aloud, there would be no going back. His life—the one he had grown so accustomed to, despite its monotony—would be over. And in its place, something entirely new would begin.

What did he want?

That was the question that gnawed at him. Alex had spent years drifting, going through the motions, convincing himself that this was all life had to offer. But now, faced with the chance to change everything, his mind raced with possibilities. The offer was a dream come true—a chance to leave behind the world that had so long left him feeling empty, to step into something new, something unknown. But as thrilling as it was, the weight of the decision pressed down on him.

He thought about what the figure had said. There were no wrong choices, only different paths. But each wish would set him on a path that would change his life forever. Was he truly ready to leave it all behind? His mind buzzed with doubts, fears, and excitement all at once. What could he wish for? What did he want his life to become?

For the next few days, Alex found himself unable to concentrate on anything else. His work slipped further into the background, his focus wandering constantly to the possibilities that lay ahead. He was barely paying attention as he answered customer calls, his mind drifting to the wish he would soon make. The monotony of his job only reinforced his desire to leave. There was nothing left for him here—no excitement, no adventure, no challenge. Everything was routine, and Alex had long ago stopped finding meaning in it.

On the third night after his encounter with the figure, Alex found himself lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. Sleep eluded him, his thoughts too busy to let him rest. His heart raced as the possibilities played out in his mind once more. He didn't want to live in this world anymore, not in the way he had been living. He wanted more. He needed more.

And so, as the moonlight filtered through his window, casting shadows on the walls, Alex made up his mind.

The next day, he returned to the alley.

The city had changed in the past few days—or maybe it was just his perception. Everything seemed to move at a slower pace, the ordinary aspects of life no longer capturing his attention. As he approached the alley, a familiar tension built in his chest. He half-expected the figure not to appear, for the encounter to have been some fever dream brought on by stress and boredom. But deep down, Alex knew it was real. The air around him hummed again, faint but noticeable, just as it had the first time.

And then, just as before, the figure appeared.

It seemed to materialize out of the shadows, stepping forward with the same grace, its glowing eyes fixed on Alex with that same mixture of amusement and understanding. This time, however, Alex was ready.

"You've made your decision," the figure said, not as a question, but as a statement. It already knew. It always seemed to know.

Alex nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. "I have."

The figure's lips curved into a small smile. "Then speak, Alex. The wishes are yours to make."

The air around them felt heavier, charged with anticipation. Alex took a deep breath, his mind running through all the ideas he had weighed over the past few days. Wishes were a rare, powerful thing—he needed to be sure of what he wanted. And after much thought, two desires stood out above the rest.

"I wish…" Alex hesitated for a moment, feeling the enormity of what he was about to say. He could still turn back. He could still walk away from this and return to his old life. But no—there was no turning back now. His future was waiting, just beyond the words he was about to speak.

"I wish to live in a world of adventure," he said, his voice gaining strength as he spoke the words aloud. "A world where I'm not just going through the motions—where I can explore, challenge myself, and grow. A world that's as alive and full of potential as I am."

The figure's smile deepened, and the glow in its eyes brightened. "Your first wish is granted, Alex. And your second?"

Alex's pulse quickened. He had thought long and hard about this one. The Pokémon world had always been his dream—the idea of traveling with powerful creatures, bonding with them, battling opponents, and testing his limits. It was everything his current life was not: exciting, full of challenge and camaraderie. But he wanted something more than just to be a trainer. He wanted a partner who would grow with him, a Pokémon of his own design, something unique and powerful.

"I want my own Pokémon," Alex said, his voice steady. "But not just any Pokémon. I want a companion—a partner that reflects me, one that's strong, fast, and capable of growing into something legendary."

The figure nodded, its form shimmering slightly as it began to shift, its outline blurring like a mirage. "Very well," it said softly. "Describe this partner, Alex. Let your imagination shape the bond that will follow you on your journey."

Alex closed his eyes, his mind racing through the hundreds of ideas that had been brewing inside him. If he could design a Pokémon, what would it be like? What kind of partner would best represent him and his journey? Slowly, an image began to form in his mind.

"For my first partner," Alex began, "I want something electric, fast, and agile. It should be small at first, like a lizard—quick on its feet, always ready to strike. It should have yellow scales, with bright, electric-blue markings running down its back. Its tail should have a lightning-bolt shape, constantly sparking with energy. I want it to be curious and playful, but with the potential to grow into something fierce."

The figure's eyes glowed brighter as Alex spoke, the air around them crackling with energy. Alex could feel the Pokémon taking shape in his mind—a creature full of potential, just like him.

"I'll call it Sparkyx," Alex said, his voice filled with excitement. "As it grows, it'll evolve into something larger, more powerful. It'll develop wings, become more dragon-like, but it'll keep that electric energy. Its final form will be something unstoppable—a massive, majestic dragon with scales that shimmer with electricity, wings that crackle with lightning. Its name will be Voltremis."

The figure nodded, its form pulsing with energy as Alex's words took shape. "Sparkyx, Dravolts, Voltremis… your electric dragon will serve you well, Alex. But what of your second partner? You have one more wish."

Alex smiled, feeling a surge of adrenaline as he imagined his second Pokémon. He wanted something that would balance Voltremis—something strong, defensive, and unyielding, like the foundation of his strength. A fighter, but with a core of steel.

"My second partner will be a Steel-type," Alex said, his mind racing with ideas. "It'll be small at first, like a humanoid creature made of iron. Its hands will be oversized, like gauntlets, ready to punch through anything. It'll be loyal, strong, and disciplined—a protector."

The image formed more clearly in his mind now, the creature taking shape. "As it grows, it'll evolve into something larger, more powerful. Its body will become an alloy of steel and bronze, and its gauntlets will become full-arm guards, ready to crush anything in its path. Its final form will be an indomitable warrior, covered in metallic armor, with fists that can shake the earth. I'll call it Ferronix."

The figure's form shimmered, and Alex could feel the power of his words manifesting into reality. The air around him buzzed with energy as the two Pokémon he had described came to life, their forms solidifying in the space between him and the figure.

"Sparkyx and Ironux," the figure said softly, "the partners you have chosen. They will grow with you, evolve alongside you, and stand by your side through every challenge you face. Your wishes are granted, Alex."

Alex's heart raced as he looked down at the two creatures that now stood before him. Sparkyx, the small, lizard-like Pokémon with yellow scales and electric-blue markings, looked up at him with bright, curious eyes, its tail sparking with energy. Next to it, Ironux stood tall, its metallic fists gleaming in the faint light of the alley, its red eyes full of determination.

This was real. It was all real.

Alex knelt down, reaching out to place a hand on Sparkyx's head. The Pokémon chirped in response, its tail flicking back and forth with excitement. Ironux stood by silently, watching its new trainer with quiet resolve.

Alex couldn't help but smile. This was it—the adventure he had always dreamed of. The world of monotony and routine that he had known for so long was gone. Before him lay a future full of possibilities, a world where he could challenge himself, grow, and become something greater than he had ever imagined.

He stood, looking down at his two new partners, feeling the weight of his decision sink in fully. There was no going back now. His old life—his job, his apartment, the drudgery of the everyday—was behind him. Ahead was a journey filled with unknown challenges and dangers, but Alex had never felt more alive.

The figure, still standing in the shadows, spoke again, its voice quieter now, almost a whisper. "Your wishes have shaped the beginning of your journey, Alex. But remember, the path ahead is not one that can be walked without trial. You will face obstacles, enemies, and decisions that will test the very core of who you are. Your partners will grow with you, but they will also depend on you. Your bond with them will be your greatest strength, and your greatest responsibility."

Alex nodded, his mind racing with the enormity of what he had just set into motion. He felt a deep connection with Sparkyx and Ironux already, as though they were more than just creatures by his side. They were his companions, reflections of the person he wanted to become—strong, determined, and unyielding.

"Where do I go from here?" Alex asked, his voice breaking the silence. The figure had granted his wishes, but he still didn't know what his next step should be. The excitement of his new Pokémon partners was exhilarating, but the world beyond this alley was still a mystery to him.

The figure's smile returned, faint but present. "You are no longer bound by the limits of your former life, Alex. You have entered a new world, one shaped by your desires and your potential. Your journey will take you across vast landscapes, through cities and wilds filled with creatures both familiar and unknown. There are those who will seek to challenge you, to take what you now possess. And there are those who will stand by you, just as your partners do."

Alex took a deep breath, letting the weight of the figure's words settle in. It was all happening so fast, but he knew there was no time to waste. He had wished for adventure, and now it was his to claim. The open world, filled with danger and opportunity, stretched out before him.

"When you are ready," the figure continued, "step forward. The path will reveal itself to you."

The air around them seemed to shimmer again, the same electric charge that had drawn Alex into this alley pulsing once more. He looked down at Sparkyx and Ironux, both of whom seemed to sense the change in the air as well. Sparkyx's tail sparked with renewed energy, while Ironux clenched its metallic fists, ready for whatever lay ahead.

Alex took one last look at the alley behind him, the place where his old life had ended and his new one had begun. It was strange to think how quickly everything had changed. Just days ago, he had been another nameless face in the city, trapped in a cycle of routine and dissatisfaction. Now, he was on the brink of something far greater, something he had only ever dreamed about.

He turned to face the figure once more, his expression set with determination. "I'm ready."

The figure's glowing eyes seemed to brighten as it nodded, stepping aside to reveal a faint doorway, shimmering like a mirage in the darkened alley. The space beyond the doorway was unlike anything Alex had ever seen. It wasn't the familiar cityscape or the cold walls of his apartment—it was something wild, vast, and untamed. He could see glimpses of rolling plains, towering mountains, and distant cities, all stretching out into the horizon.

This was his new world.

Without hesitation, Alex stepped forward, his heart racing with anticipation. Sparkyx and Ironux followed at his side, their eyes fixed on the path ahead. The moment he crossed the threshold, the doorway behind him faded into nothingness, leaving only the open expanse of the world before him.

The air was fresh, crisp with the scent of grass and earth. The sky above was a brilliant blue, stretching endlessly in every direction. It was so different from the city he had known, where the buildings crowded the skyline and the air was thick with noise and pollution. Here, everything felt alive, vibrant with potential.

He could feel the energy of the world around him, the same energy that had brought his new companions to life. Sparkyx darted ahead, its electric-blue markings glowing faintly as it explored its new surroundings. Ironux stayed closer to Alex, its movements more calculated and deliberate, scanning the area for any potential threats.

Alex smiled, watching his partners with a sense of pride and awe. This was just the beginning, but he already knew that they would be more than just Pokémon to him. They were part of his team, part of his journey. And together, they would face whatever challenges came their way.

He took a deep breath, savoring the feeling of freedom that came with this new world. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he was exactly where he was meant to be.

But as he stood there, gazing out at the landscape before him, he couldn't help but wonder about the figure who had granted his wishes. Who—or what—was it? And why had it chosen him? There were so many questions still unanswered, so many mysteries left to unravel.

But those were thoughts for another time.

For now, Alex had a new world to explore, and two powerful partners at his side. He had wished for adventure, and now, adventure was his to claim.

With Sparkyx darting ahead and Ironux following close behind, Alex took his first steps into the unknown, ready to face whatever the future had in store.

And so, his journey began.

This chapter marks the beginning of Alex's adventure in the world shaped by his wishes. He has designed his Pokémon companions, Sparkyx and Ironux, both of which reflect different aspects of his personality and desires for the journey ahead. As he steps into this new world, he faces not only the challenges of exploration but also the unknown forces that may seek to challenge or aid him along the way.
