Chapter 50 - To teach my mother-in-law a lesson

Liam nodded. "My mother is the tribe Mother, and there are a total of fourteen children she gave birth to, but I am the weakest among them. My mother kept me with the hope that I would grow stronger as I grew up, but my speed and strength have even decreased as I've grown. I only managed to reach level three of strength when I was seventeen years old, while others have already reached level five. Everyone except Salt and me others has found a mate and left home. It's not that Salt isn't wanted by females as well; he has his eyes on a female who hasn't responded to him. No female wants me because I am too weak to even protect myself, much less protect my mate.

My mother noticed that I had no future, so she cursed me and sent me away from the tribe. I had nowhere to go, so I could only hide among the Tiger Tribe since I was a little bit stronger than them. While I was looking for something to eat, I found you falling from the sky and lay on the ground as if you were sleeping.

You are just like a peerless treasure. When I saw you, I was very happy, and I thanked the heavens repeatedly for making me find you. You are like a gem sent to me, and I feel alive.

I know you are a treasure from the sky since you fell from it and you even look different from others, so I decided to keep you. I thought that if whoever owned you in the sky came looking for you, I would never let them have you.

I immediately took you to my home, afraid that you would not want me once you woke up and found out that I am too weak. So I had planned to use the excuse of saving you to make you accept me as your mate."

Lily stared a little longer into Liam's eyes and nodded. "So what's up with that fox that hurt you?" she inquired.

"Salt," Liam gritted his teeth together.

"What Salt?" Lily was dumbfounded.

"His name is Salt," Liam replied.

Lily was completely at a loss. "Thank goodness all my husbands didn't have a weird name that can make me bleed. What was their mother thinking to name someone Salt?" she thought.

"It's not that he's looking for me; we met by chance while I was searching for you. He thought that I would be dead long ago, but seeing me alive, he picked a fight with me. I had thought that I became stronger when I reached level four of strength, but all was for nothing when I saw him already leveled up to level six. I still didn't want to be looked down upon, so I accepted the challenge, but in the end, I still lost. I proved to be really worthless. He had clearly intended to kill me when he came back, but you arrived just in time. He saw you and will definitely come for you. Beautiful wife, the thing you gave me has made me powerful now; I can protect you. He will do you no harm, I promise," he vowed.

Lily smiled and affectionately rubbed his head. "Your mother... do you still care for her?" she asked.

Liam's gaze turned cold. "She abandoned me just because I'm weaker than others. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't want to live, and I would have died long ago. I consider myself motherless; I only have you. I have no one aside from you," he replied.

Lily chuckled. "No, you do not have only me. You have Angus, Grant, Malik, and Art. We are all family; we have each other, and we will protect each other." She rubbed his hair affectionately.

Liam's eyes widened, and not just him; everyone was surprised.

"Since you don't like her that's good, your brother, salt, saw me and must have already informed his mother, surely she will definitely want to come and see me on behalf of her son. You shouldn't feel bad about whatever I do to her, okay?"

Liam's eyes brightened. "Beautiful wife, what are you planning to do?" Excitement was clear on his face.

"Don't worry; let them come first," an evil grin appeared on Lily's face. "I will help you take revenge in a miraculous way," she laughed devilishly.

Everyone exchanged glances, wondering what Lily was up to.

...

Knock, knock.

The door was knocked twice, and Berry opened it. Seeing who was at the entrance, her happiness bloomed, and she immediately bounced forward for a hug.

"Hey... hey... hey, you are pregnant, dear! Don't act recklessly!" Lily scolded, stopping Berry in time.

Berry laughed. "See, my skin is very thick and not delicate like yours; nothing will happen to me. Be assured," she replied.

Lily's mouth twitched. "Don't be too confident. Don't be reckless next time. If you don't listen to me, then I..."

"Alright, alright, I promise, I will be good and gentle," Berry assured, laughing beautifully.

"That's more like it."

"Angel, I haven't had the time to come and appreciate you. You were the one who didn't allow me to have a shattered family and made my mates get fed on. Thank you so much."

"Is there a need to say thanks? Never mind. Do you now have any cooking skills?" she inquired.

"Err, it was my mates who did the cooking. I don't know how to do it. Your mate only taught us once; I didn't grasp it, but my mates did, and it's very fine—even better than meat."

Lily's mouth twitched. "Taught you just once? This guy is really too impatient," she thought, rubbing her nose. "I apologize," she stated.

"Ah, what? Don't say that; I owe you my life," Berry immediately responded.

"Err, this girl," Lily mused. "Anyway, I need your help with something," she declared.

Berry's eyes lit up. "What is it?" Her eyes were filled with excitement.

"Take me to a place where I can find different types of weird herbs. I'm looking for a specific leaf."

Berry's eyes widened. "Are you pregnant?" she questioned.

Lily's expression froze. "What does pregnancy have to do with looking for a leaf?" she asked.

"Ah, when a female is pregnant, she will crave a leaf for three days," Berry explained, blinking innocently.

Lily took a deep breath. "Holy Saint, don't let me get pregnant now! I'm looking for the leaf for something else. Stop wishing me good things at the wrong time," she insisted.

Berry's jaw dropped, and a hint of disappointment appeared on her face. "I thought you were pregnant," she pouted. "You should get pregnant soon. Not having a single child of your own is heartbreaking."

Lily smiled. "I'm not ready now. Can we please just go?"

Berry's gaze became bored. "If you are not pregnant, then what do you want to do with the leaf?" she asked.

"To teach my mother-in-law a lesson."
