Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Emma's POV

College in County was all I thought it would be. Scary and intimidating.

The girls wore their skirts too high, and the boys wore their trousers too low.

"Hi." I said to the first girl I saw who looked the least snobbish. She was beautiful, and looked about my height and age, with a very slim and sexy body.

I struggled to keep my eyes on her face while trying to ask her for directions.

Fortunately, she was also taking all the classes I was.

I was super glad to see someone I had so much in common already. It made me, for once, believe in someone supernatural.

"What's your name again?" She asked.

I told her barely a minute ago. I was pissed, and may be a little insulted, but it wasn't enough reason to call it quits on my soon to be friend.

"Emma." I answered her. "Emma Watson." She smiled and shook my hand for formality sake.

"Well it seems like your grandad left a really big shoe to fill, discovering the DNA double helix structure." She smiled.

I never knew that! This was going to be difficult.

I shuddered to imagine how many other academic jokes I'd have to laugh at without getting the context.

"I'm Lily." She said, She looked like one.

I was to get my uniforms at the end of the day, and I looked forward to it.

I felt so out of place, but it didn't hit harder than during lunch.

Surprisingly, Lily too didn't have any friends, and so we made a good team.

We sat for lunch together and watched how girls kept throwing themselves at a particular group of boys.

They were all so intimidating. This particular girl that caught my attention wore a Rolex, each on both hands.

She had high cheekbones and very defined jaw lines. With even really light make up on, she looked like a supermodel.

There was no way I hadn't seen her on the TV sometime.

"That's Jessica." Lily answered my unspoken question, following my gaze. "She's a model. Her dad's rich as fuck too." She said,

"Oh wow." I replied to her. "This place is so different from my former school." I said to her, trying to take my mind off the girl that made me look like a vegetable in comparison.

"Everyone says that. And it's true. I moved here three years ago and it was the same for me. Still is sometimes. We have a lot of models and actress, influencers too." Lily just took my paranoidness from one to hundred.

"That's overwhelming." I was blown away. The biggest girls in my school had just about thousands of followers on all social media combined. Being in class with actresses and models was huge.

I tried to take my eyes away from their table as a few of them were already staring threateningly at us.

It was too late, and I only had time to pinch her to stop talking and look back.

"Hey fresher. Got something to say." Jessica asked, sitting directly beside me.

The smell of her expensive perfumes dwarfed Lily's and mine.

"Y'all sewed to be a lot chattier when I was watching you from there." She said again.

I didn't like to be bullied. I was bullied throughout middle school, and I swore I wouldn't make myself go through that.

"Yeah." I replied to her. Lily looked up like she had seen a ghost, not expecting me to reply. "We can't say much cause we don't have so much privacy anymore." I added.

Jessica looked taken aback, not nothing could stop her recoil.

"Hey sore thumb, Mama never told you to not disrespect the beautiful ones?" She asked. It felt like all the blood in my body went to my head.

"Don't you talk to my mom like that, you wretched malnourished pig." I spat at her.

"Oh, no baby. Don't get riled up. I wasn't referring to her. I was referring to Mama beside you." She threw a very nasty look at Lily who's eyes were already watering.

"I'll see you later, Emma." Lily said and walked in the direction of the bathroom she showed me earlier. From the way she smiled while telling me that it had the nearest toilets and most beautiful tiles, I knew it was more than a toilet to her. I used to have one too.

Jessica flung her blonde hair in my face, in an exaggerated attempt to watch Lily walk away. The rest of her crew were already coming to my table.

The tallest of the guys had blue eyes, his first shirt bottom popped off and neatly styled honey coloured bangs, falling all over his head.

Under different circumstances, I would have shamelessly ogled at him and maybe even gotten wet. But, he was just part of a crew of dickheads, who thought bullying people was fun.

I knew I had to leave before they crowded in on me. They seemed to have earned the fear and respect of other students as no one seemed ready to come to my aid.

I got up, brushed Jessica and her tall senseless male friend and ran to Lily.

"Tell her I miss her." He said.

I looked back and shot him a nasty look. Lily must've had it really bad with them.

I used to think bullies did not bully attractive people. They seemed to prefer picking on people like me.

From the entrance, I could hear her so.

It was a six-man urinal, and none of all the other people seemed bothered about a girl crying in the bathroom. Once again, it was probably a usual occurrence.

The toilet was all Lily said it was.

"Hey. I knocked on the door that blocked her from me. I knew that she probably saw my foot peeking from under the door already.

"If you don't open up, I might be forced to cause a scene, or better still, do something stupid." I threatened.

I heard the door unlock, but not open.

I opened it to see her squatting on the toilet bowl.

Her beautiful face was now a reddened puffy mess. I would've loved to cry with her, but I had developed a somewhat thicker skin for stuff like that.

"I'm sorry about all that." I apologized. "Jessica is just nasty and you don't deserve it."

Lily stood up and went to the mirror, while I tagged along behind her.

"Could you please get my bag? I need to apply some concealer." Shoot! She left her bag on her seat while we were dining.

Now that was like sending me back to hell. For my new found friend who's face looked like a pumpkin, I was going to do it.

I re-entered the cafeteria to see Jessica and Mr Blue Eyes sitting on Lily's seat and mine, with Lily's bag on his lap.

I took a deep breath, and walked in their direction, my legs felt like spaghetti.
