"And in the latest news, an explosion in downtown Samoa left 12 dead and 27 injured, there is still no information on what caused the explosion but what's on everyone's minds is not the explosion itself but the unwanted who used her power to move the rubble and get the people out from under it, we still don't know who this unwanted Is, but many think this may be the start to officially welcome the unwanted into society," a new anchor on the tv said before Elliot used the remote to shut it off.
"Look what you started," Elliot said turning to Raelyn who sat on his office couch. "They needed help," she told him. "You put yourself in unnecessary danger," he said. "If I don't who will," Raelyn said standing up. "Raelyn you're 17 years old you can't just go around risking your life like…" "Like mom" Raelyn interrupted. Elliot went silent.
"Elliot this may finally be some sort of chance for the unwanted to come out of the shadows. For them to use their powers to help people" she told him. "That isn't for you to decide," he told her.
"Yes it is," she told him. "It's you who doesn't have the right to decide" she added before walking out of his office. Elliot let out a deep breath as he fell into his chair. He couldn't help but look towards the picture on his desk. The last family photo.
Raelyn had grown up a lot since their parents died 5 years prior. She reminded him of their mother. She was a strong woman. An unwanted who hid her abilities and played hero. But even she wasn't strong enough to stop what came for her. What came for all unwanteds? The Night.
Raelyn just walked throughout the building. Everyone already knew what she was, they didn't care as long as she didn't cause trouble. Typically when she didn't agree with her brother she would just leave. But she knew that would only cause more trouble.
Raelyn stopped at a vending machine and pulled 2 dollars out of her pocket, making sure they weren't crinkled before putting them in the machine. "So you revealed your power" she heard a familiar voice behind her. "What do you want Jake?" She asked. "You threw me against a wall and managed to slip past 6 soldiers," he said as Raelyn clicked a few buttons on the vending machine and a drink fell.
Raelyn bent down and grabbed the drink before standing up again and turning to Jake. "Who knows, guess they just weren't paying attention" she replied. Raelyn then attempted to walk past Jake but was stopped when he suddenly grabbed her arm. Raelyn quickly turned. "Let me go," she said looking him in his eyes.
"You can't change them Raelyn, the unwanted will always be the villains. It's not your job to fix that" he told her. Raelyn ripped her arm out of grasp and ignored him as she turned and walked away.
"We would like to take your sister with us" Raelyn heard a man's voice as she now stood outside her brother's office. "That's not up to me," Elliot told the man. "She's 17 years old she's still a minor and you're her legal guardian I think it is," the man told Elliot. "When she comes back I'll tell her," Elliot said solemnly
Raelyn walked away. She couldn't stand there anymore. Her brother, her only family left was getting rid of her. Raelyn went through the door to go into the stairway. She needed air and the elevator would take too long. When Raelyn finally got outside she took a deep breath and ran.
She didn't know where she was running to but. She didn't care, she just needed to get out of there.
Suddenly she was grabbed and pulled into an alley. A Handsome man who couldn't be older than 23 with black hair and blue eyes covered her mouth with his hand. She couldn't even sense him. She thought. "I'm sorry for scaring you I'm not gonna hurt you," he said in a whisper. "I just need your help," he told her quickly. -then let me go- she said her voice suddenly appearing in his mind. "You're a telepath?" he questioned. "I thought…" Suddenly the man went flying back and landed on his butt hard. "Ow," he said rubbing his back.
"Usually you don't introduce yourself by grabbing someone off the streets," Raelyn told him. "You are her, the girl who saved those people, I knew it," he said with a slight smile as he stood up. "I'm sorry I really didn't mean to startle you it's just I saw you and I knew you'd be the one to help me, well to help us," he said.
"A minute ago you weren't I was the same girl" Raelyn replied. "I've never seen an unwanted with two powers before" he explained. Raelyn let out a deep breath. "What do you want? And why do you think I can help?" She asked still unsure of him.
"You are the first in a long time to willingly risk yourself being imprisoned and saving people," he said. "Everyone unwanted and powerless alike are calling you a hero," he told her.
"I already know that," she said "but what does everyone expect me to do?" she asked. "I can't play hero alone and I have no political power," she told him honestly.
"Will you just follow me?" he asked. "First You randomly grabbed me off the street and now you want me to follow you?" she asked. "Yes," he said. Raelyn thought about it for a moment. "If this is some sort of trap you gonna regret it," she told him.
"It's not," he said. "I promise" he added. "I just wanna show you how many believe in you the way I do," he told her. "You know I'm not the first," she said. "I'm not a hero and I alone don't think I can convince the world that the unwanted aren't dangerous," she told him.
"Just trust me," he told her. "You wont regret it" he added.
"Alright," Raelyn said. "Let's go" she added.
