Chereads / The foul ball / Chapter 3 - chapter 3

Chapter 3 - chapter 3

A field of tall yellow grass led up to the school, a small path made from Percy's regular walk; the wind blew, pushing all the grass on its side. Ronin grabbed his jacket, pulling it up over his face, trying not to show he was cold.

"We're here," Percy says, pointing at the small but well-populated school.

Ronin looks up from his jacket at the school, his face hardening as he remembers his old school. His reckless behavior rang in his head as they approached the school.

Percy leads him to the doors and holds them open for him.

Ronin ignores him he walks to the beside his and opens it himself.

"Or just do..that Percy says defeatedly to himself, then rushes in to follow him. "Where are you going?" Percy asks when he catches up.

Ronin ignores his question and continues through the hallways.

"Need help signing in?" Percy asks hesitantly, hoping for any type of response.

"Percy!?" Ronin turns around. I don't wanna be seen with you in this school, so just back off," he says and continues down the hall.

Percy, not too thrown off by Ronin, turns around and walks down the hall.

Percy sits at his desk staring at the door; a smile spreads across his face as Wren walks in with a heavy bag on her shoulder. He leaps from his seat. "I was waiting for you," he says, helping her with her bag.

She sits down next to him.

Percy grabs the text for the class and puts it on her desk. Wren looks at Percy as warmth spreads through her body.

Ronin walks out of the bathroom, and the last residue of smoke leaks from his mouth; he looks out at the empty halls when a voice echoes.

"Hey?!" Ronin turns to see a middle-aged man walking his way. "You're supposed to be in class," the man says, getting closer.

Ronin looks down the other hall, thinking of how easily he could outrun the man. "Now, get back to class," the man says as he stops in front of the bathroom and nudges Ronin before quickly following after him.

"Wait right there, young man. Are you part of this school? I don't think I've seen you around here."

All of a sudden, the doors burst open to Percy's class as the principal shoves Ronin inside. "New student," he says with anger in his voice. "You deal with him," as he slams the door and stomps down the hall.

"Oh-ok," the teacher says, stuttering at the quick change. "Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" she asks, a smile on her face.

Ronin turns to her and smiles, holding her attention. He reaches his arm out and holds his hand up flipping off the class. The reaction was loud as the teacher looked over. Ronin drops his arm and walks to an open seat.

"Oh—uh, ok," the teacher says, trying to get back to the lesson.

Percy, still shaken, looks at Ronin; a sarcastic smile covers his face.

As the last bell rang, Ronin jumped up from his seat, running out of the classroom. Percy grabbed his stuff, left the room, and, gripping the side of the door, turned and walked the other way to meet Wren at another classroom. He quickly grabbed her hand, hoping to catch up with Ronin.

Wren, used to holding Percy's hand. She follows.

Percy calls his name; he runs out of the field they walked this morning. Wren almost dragged behind him. They come to a stop at Ronin, percys waits to hear Ronin's impression of the school while they walked.
