Mei Ting was blown away by the man in front of her. Her eyes held his, and she watched as they softened, but what she had not expected was the word he spoke next.
"Wifey,"
Why would he call her that? "How could you make me wait for so long?" Luo Chen said crossing the distance between them and pulling her into a hug.
Mei Ting stiffened on his hold. He pressed her into his broad hard chest. When they finally pulled away, she opened her mouth to speak but stopped.
Looking straight into his eyes, she suddenly became short of words.
"But I don't mind waiting for you for long, you are my cupcake," he pinched her cheeks lovingly, "nothing you do can ever make me angry."
The lady who stood by the side was shocked upon seeing this happen before her. A few minutes ago, Luo Chen had sat on the couch radiating a dark aura which made her knees go weak.
She felt suffocated being in the same room as he was, but in front of Mei Ting, he seemed to be a different person. She had gone outside her office just to get some air, and now, seeing them together, she was glad she decided to go out.
Mei Ting, on the other hand, pinched herself.
Was this a dream?
About an hour ago, she watched Yang Zichen rip their marriage certificate in pieces, and now she was being held by a strange man who called her his wife.
She gently pulled away from his hold, taking one step back.
She stretched one hand, stopping him from coming close to her when she felt he wanted to move closer.
If she was being honest, it felt nice being in his embrace. She loved the warmth and missed it immediately after it disappeared, but then, she had to resolve the misunderstanding.
Luo Chen, on the other hand, furrowed his brows when he saw the expression her face held.
Wasn't she told what she was here for before coming here?
"I think there's been a misunderstanding." Mei Ting said. It would be better to clear up the misunderstanding before they checked the certificate and discovered that she wasn't his.
"What are you talking about Amor?" Luo Chen asked. He looked calm and collected on the surface, but he was already doing some calculations in his head.
Didn't Jiao Runchu tell her what she was here for? Why was she suddenly being reluctant?
From the corner of his eyes, he saw the lady raise a quizzical brow at her, and at that moment, he realised he had to stop her from speaking and ruining all his plans.
He turned to her, "Can you excuse us? It seems my wife here has something she wants to say in private." Miss Jang didn't have to think about what Luo Chen said before stepping out of the office.
"Now you have my attention now, Amor. Is there something you are dissatisfied with?" He directed all his attention to her, his eyes held hers.
Mei Ting couldn't hold his gaze and kept flickering between looking at the man in front of him and looking at the shelves which held books of various kinds.
"Well, first," she paused, inhaling a scent of breath and tucking her hair gently between her ears, "you have to stop calling me that." Luo Chen slanted his head to the side and raised one of his brows.
She wasn't here to ruin his plans, was she?
"Second, I'm sorry I allowed you to hug me; I shouldn't have." She bit her bottom lips, she needed that hug. The day has been a long one. After crying out her eyes in her car and ruining her makeup earlier, she had suppressed the tears that threatened to fall when Yang Zichen had torn their certificate and had just sat somewhere, staring into space while hearing her heart crack and break into hundreds of pieces.
"I was surprised when you called me wifey and I just…" she looked up to meet his gaze, "well, you know…" she couldn't find the right words to describe it.
She saw him as a man of high status, given how he was impeccably dressed.
"Third, I'm not your wife. I should be getting married, but a lot has happened, and the jerk I was supposed to get married to became a chicken at the last moment and left, and well…" she paused, wondering why she was spilling so much to someone she barely knew.
Well, maybe it was because of the way he held her eyes. He stared at her as though he understood her and for the first time since she was ten, she finally felt seen.
"I'm not your wife," she noticed the envelope with him which was torn by the side. Maybe he had yet to take a look, "you have the certificate already, so it would be easier if you checked it." She urged him pointing to the brown papers he held.
Luo Chen couldn't take his eyes off her. He watched her lips as they moved.
He opened the certificate immediately when it was handed over to him, and her picture was in it, and so also was the name Mei Ting.
So there was no way in the universe that he was wrong.
"Wif…" he bit his tongue before he could complete the word.
Calling her wifey came naturally to him.
He handed over the envelope to her. "We are married. You are my wife, you can check it for yourself."
Mei Ting felt there was no need for it. She was sure he was mistaken.
However, she took the envelope from him without a word. 'let's just get this over with.' she thought.
She brought out the envelope. Her eyes scanned through it before setting on the picture on the upper left of the document.
Her eyes widened upon seeing a photo of herself, the same photo she had presented when she first came to this building.
She trailed it with her finger as if to be sure that it truly was a picture of her, "how is this possible?" Her eye
s moved down and she saw her name.
"We are married, Mei Ting. You are my wife."
