Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"What if you don't like what you get to know? It would be better to save ourselves future trouble." Mei Ting reasoned.

If Mei Ting is being honest, Luo Chen's proposal was enticing; she was tempted to agree; the man in front of her was handsome. He looks like he is from a respectable family, but he also seems to be unaware of her being thrown out of the Li family.

"That is not possible," Luo Chen was tempted to tell her that he had already gotten to know about her. He may not know the details for now, but the fact that Jiao Runchu had sent him a thumbs-up meant that there was nothing he wouldn't like.

Mei Ting weighed her pros and cons.

If she doesn't dissolve her marriage to him right now and she walks out of here, the worst that can happen is that he would be pissed and divorce her when he finds out who she is.

Luo Chen, on the other hand, watched her like she was his favourite show. She can take all the time in the world to think about the offer as long as she walks out of the door as his wife.

Mei Ting raised her head with a look of decisiveness engraved in her soft facial features. Luo Chen straightened and entwined his hands together like he was waiting for a verdict.

"I've given it some thought," she paused as Luo Chen nodded. "We should stay married," She had decided to be his wife, to become Mrs Luo.

Luo Chen's lips stretched into a satisfied smile. He was pleased with her decision.

Luo Chen opened his mouth to speak but before he could utter any words, Mei Ting beat him to it.

"But I must warn you. You can not back out when you get to know me. Especially when you get to know my family, even if they are a handful to handle."

"I don't know how to let things go, Mei Ting. I don't care about your family or identity. It is you I am married to, not your family," Luo Chen has already resolved to keep the woman in front of him.

They got everything sorted out in the next few minutes.

They stepped out of the registry office. Luo Chen walked beside her his hand brushed against hers as they walked down the hallway leading to the exit.

"I brought my car," Mei Ting's voice was soft as she spoke, "I'll have to drive it back," Mei Ting said once they stepped out.

Luo Chen entwined their hands, "you realize that we are living together right?" If he could have his way, there was no need to take the car along.

"I know. But I have a few things to pick from my house." Luo Chen furrowed his brows. They stopped under an oak tree, rays of sun leaked through the leaves, "You can text me your address, I'll come over once I'm done."

"No need, let's go over to your house together in my car." he traced circles on her palm.

"What about mine?"

"A designated driver can take it home."

Home.

The word stirred something within Mei Ting. A wave of unfamiliar emotions overwhelmed her. The last time she had called a place her home was when her parents were still alive.

She blinked back the tears that threatened to fall.

They resumed walking and stopped in front of a sleek black Mercedes Benz class with tinted glass.

Mei Ting's mouth parted. She looked at the man beside her who stepped forward and opened the door as though he had done so a million times. He held it till she sat comfortably before walking around.

Mei Ting kept placing one hand over the other nervously. Her eyes moved around the luxurious interior. This was the newest model; how rich was this man she got married to?

"There's a lot I don't know about you," she said when Luo Chen stepped into the car. "We'll get to know ourselves slowly." Luo Chen was in no rush.

They had their entire lifetime in front of them. Just as the car was about to move, Luo Chen's phone rang.

"Sir, we have a bit of a problem," Jiao Runchu's voice resounded. Luo Chen massages his temples. The last thing he wanted to do right now was leave Mei Ting.

"I'll be there in a while," Luo Chen wanted to be the one to take her home.

"I'm parked behind you, this can't wait."

"This better be important." He ended the call and turned to Mei Ting whose eyes were pinned on him.

"I won't be accompanying you home. I'll join you at home later," Mei Ting nodded.

Luo Chen instructed the driver to drive carefully and take her first to her house before taking her home.

The car felt empty without Luo Chen seated beside her. Mei Ting found herself looking forward to having him with her at home.

Once they got to her house, the driver pulled up. "I'll quickly get a few things inside."

"Do you need help?" The driver asked; she shook her head, a small smile forming on her lips, "No. I'll be back soon."

Mei Ting stepped into her cosy bedroom, picked up luggage and threw in a few important clothes.

As she packed other essential things she thought she'd need, her mind reverted to the event of the day that had happened earlier, before she went to the registry office.

The news of Madame Li's death shook everyone, and she was no exception. But what she didn't expect was that she would get thrown out by Li Weiyoung.

She shook her head trying to dispel the memory. She has a new life now, so she decided to focus on it.

Immediately she stepped out of her house; she was surrounded by five policemen. One of them stepped forward and held up an arrest

warrant for her to see, "You are under arrest as a suspect for Madame Li's death."
