After everyone made their reports, they all left, leaving only Samantha and Emily. Emily had wanted to have a chat with Lieutenant Chen, but Samantha was the only one who hadn't made her report, since she was her spy, and everything she had to say must be in confidence between the two of them. And because it looked like she had something on her mind, Emily wanted to discuss it with her.
"You're now free to speak," Emily said, a smile plastered on her lips.
Smiling was starting to feel natural to Emily. She didn't exactly know why she picked up such a weird habit, but it kind of seemed... right. In a strange way, smiling made her outwardly seem a lot less empty and intimidating while inwardly making her feel slightly better about herself.
Ever since the apocalypse, Emily felt like she lost every piece of herself. Smiling didn't used to be her thing, but when she was with family, it came to her as naturally as breathing.
