Chapter 39 - The Weeping (3)

Emily looked at Fenrir for a moment, surprise hidden underneath her blank face. "No?" she asked with a head tilt.

That simple question was like a bullet to Fenrir's heart. She slightly recoiled, her eyes avoiding Emily's gaze. She looked ashamed to have said that. But she was tired of being the errand girl, even though all she wanted was to spend time with her master.

"I..." Fenrir trailed off, unable to finish the sentence. She turned her back to Emily and started walking in a different direction, ready to do what Emily had asked of her.

"Wait."

Fenrir stopped and turned around, her wolf ears perking up as she looked at her master, who regarded her with an amused expression.

"Master?"

"You can stay," Emily told her, then turned to Vixie. "You'll be going instead."

Vixie looked flabbergasted. "Wha—why me?" she complained, glaring at Fenrir out of the corner of her eye.
