Maeve and I finished our hot dogs, and I caught her glancing around the food court again with a mischievous glint in her eye. She didn't need to say a word—I already knew what she was looking for.
"Dessert?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Maeve grinned, a little sheepish but not at all shy. "You read my mind. Can't end the day without something sweet, right?"
"Agreed," I laughed. "What are you thinking?"
She scanned the options again, eyes lighting up as she spotted a brightly lit stand nearby. "How about funnel cakes? Or, wait… do you see that? They have churros!"
I followed her gaze and saw the cart boasting a display of sugar-dusted churros stacked in a neat, enticing row. "Let's go for it," I said, smiling. We made our way over, standing in another line as the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the park.
Once it was our turn, Maeve ordered for us, not even needing to ask. "Two churros, extra cinnamon, please."
