Chapter 9 - Ch 9: Crash and Burn

'My body never behaved this weirdly when I was a male, and I have never been in a female body long enough to experience this all. Just what the hell is wrong with me?'

Camelia's heart beat painfully in her chest as she reached to touch it. She felt like her heart would stop if she did anything.

The closeness of the body on her shoulder made Camelia feel dizzy, and her legs felt weak. She wanted to speak up, but her throat felt dry, and she had no power in her limbs.

"Y-You said a minute."

Camelia cursed herself as her voice sounded weak, even to her ears. This was not how she was supposed to act.

But the arms around her middle (when they got there) tightened, and Zayne held on like she was his lifeline.

"Please, just a few minutes more. I am almost done adjusting. Hey, do you mind if I bite you? It will quicken the process…"

"Fine! Do what you want to. Just hurry up!"

The male asked, and Camelia agreed without thinking about anything. Her mind felt like a mess, and she stood still as she felt a mouth nipping at her shoulder before sharp teeth bit into her neck, causing Camelia to flinch.

"Fuck! This hurts! Just how deep are you-"

The mouth did not pull back even after biting. A tongue lapped at Camelia's skip as the mouth sucked her and deepened the mark.

She would have hit the man holding on to her, but Camelia felt him sucking out her energy at the same time he touched her.

"I-Is this not enough? You are sucking me dry…"

Camelia complained as her legs buckled again, and she fell into the man's awaiting arms. Her chest heaved as she breathed huge gulps of fresh air and looked back.

Finally, that mouth was off her shoulder, but Camelia did not want to see what kind of hickey had been left behind.

She felt she would lose her mind if she tried to rationalize these actions.

"I'm sorry! I tried to stop, but it had been so long since I got any guidance, and yours is the best. Don't worry about a thing. I will escort you back to your room, so you don't have to worry about it. I am quite strong, so I can easily lift you…see…"

Zayne's arms warped around Camelia's middle before he threw her over his shoulder.

The familiarity with this action made Camelia stop moving, and she felt frozen.

This was the same thing the real Zayne used to do when she irritated him, and he needed to get away. Now, Camelia was being made to do a similar thing by someone, likely Zayne's descendant, who had the same face and body.

'Only the personality had changed. But my instincts and powers are reacting to this man like he is the same Zayne I know. But surely, if he were the same person, he would have recognized me by now and not done all this bullshit?'

Since this man had failed to recognize who Camelia was, she refused to believe that this was her friend.

But this look-alike was also the only person she could count on for her. But before that, Camelia needed to take care of her fast-beating heart. It was getting painful in her chest, and she needed to do something about it.

'First, I should try and break the spell cast on me. Then, I will think about what else to do.'

...

Camelia had been given the room in the penthouse Zayne took her to.

The male cheerfully put Camelia down and asked her to choose any room she liked, which raised Camelia's suspicion.

"Didn't you say that I was your fiancé? Shouldn't I have a dedicated room in your house? Are you sure we were engaged?"

Camelia tried to catch Zayne in the act, and just when she thought she had him, he let out a startled laugh.

"Hahahaha, about that…well, I can show you proof that we were engaged, but it was more for political reasons. You never came here to my penthouse before since you always made an excuse when I invited you. I also had no interest in you before all this….

Let's not talk about it now. Just choose a room for now. You will need a solid bed for what we will do tonight."

Zayne's smile looked professional and did not fade even as he spoke with an awkward expression.

Camelia had half a mind to run away as soon as she heard the last few lines, but she had resolved herself to face Zayne and whatever he was going to do.

Besides, even if she did run away, she had seen how different this world was. Where would she even be able to go in her condition?

"Fine, I will take your offer for peace. But don't expect it to last for long. I don't know what you expect from me, but I won't be able to do much for you in my current memory-less state."

Camelia spoke clearly, but the man before her only smiled.

"Don't worry about it at all. I'll take care of it all, so you won't have to lift a finger. You should rest for now. If you need food, you can pick up the intercom (he pointed to the device) and press one after you pick up the receiver. Someone will arrive with your food."

This Zayne look-alike was much more patient with her than the real Zayne had been, and Camelia half-listened to him and half-dozed off because she was tired.

"Let me know if you want anything. If you press 000, the intercom will call me, and I will help you. Ah, the day's exhaustion finally caught up to you. Good night. I hope you have a pleasant dream.

Don't let what happened bind you up. You no longer have duties to uphold. You are finally free, so live your life."

Zayne's words were the last thing Camelia heard before she fell asleep.
