Lucas's eyes looked intimidating when he looked back at Camelia. She had always known he was a serious kid who liked to be in control, but Lucas had been merely sixteen the last time Camelia had met him.
She did not remember his eyes being this harsh when they looked at someone. She felt like her body would freeze if this kid continued to look at her like this.
Camelia was biding her time to attack when Zayne decided to shield her from Lucas's look by standing in front of her with his arms raised at his side.
"Ah, come on, pres! You don't have to be like that. I have often told you that your gaze looks intimidating when you are like this. You should learn to relax a little."
Zayne put a hand on Lucas's shoulder to make him relax, but Lucas shrugged it off and immediately reached for Camelia's arm to tug her close.
"Don't call yourself by that name, and don't appear in front of me with that appearance. If this is an elaborate prank, I am not interested in participating. The next time I see you here, I will call security on you."
Lucas's eyes looked unsteady when he spoke these words.
Most people thought he looked tough, but Camelia, who had seen Lucas in all kinds of trouble and moods, could tell he was too shaken to act properly. That was why he was making hasty decisions like this.
'Ah, it makes me want to smack him over the head like I used to. But I am no longer authorized to do that, right?'
Camelia felt torn about what she should do.
Seeing how she was frozen, Zayne decided to grab her hand and pull it out of Luca's grip.
"Pres, I know you are an uptight citizen, but I would appreciate it if you don't touch my fiancé like that. I would get jealous of you if you did that."
Zayne spoke with a clear voice, but even Camelia felt a shiver go down her spine at the familiar-sounding threat in his voice. It felt as if this man was not joking around.
Just for a moment, the aura of the apocalypse surrounded everything, and the alarms blared to life.
Even Lucas looked taken aback by what happened, but he quickly gathered himself and calmed the situation down.
"I understand so that you can calm down now. We will not touch your…fiancé if you don't want us to. But you cannot even fault us for being cautious of her, right? We have no idea where she came from and what she can do."
Camelia was slightly surprised by these words, so she immediately looked at Zayne for answers.
For the past few hours, this man has been telling us about who Camelia was before she lost her memories. Was it all a lie? Or was Lucas mistaken about her identity?
"Oh my! How scary! The president decided to look into my fiancé's past like that! I might press charges in the future since looking into another person's file is illegal unless it is a life-or-death situation. Shall I make this a big case?"
Zayne asked, and Lucas finally backed down while coughing in his fist to hide his uneasiness.
"That won't be necessary. What we did was just a surface-check security regulation. You should head in now."
Lucas quickly walked away as someone came to inform him about somewhere else, he needed to be.
Camelia was aware of the eyes that looked at her until Lucas left the scene. It felt like he was checking Camelia out to see what kind of threat she was until the last moment.
It made Camelia feel a little annoyed, and her heart hurt because of what happened. She had raised that kid to be where he was today and wanted to talk to him more.
But it was likely a bad idea. He already suspected Camelia to be an imposter, and she did not want to press for more.
"Ah, our president is one of a kind, right? To be honest, he rarely loses his cool, but when he does, it ends up being a disaster, and we have to use a lot of resources to get him back under control…not that you have to worry about it.
You might be a guide, but you are my guide. You don't have to be concerned about anyone or anything else. Who knows? I might lose control next if I see you close with someone else. So, you better be careful."
By the time Camelia noticed what Zayne was doing, he was too close to her, and his hand rested in Camelia's hair, playing with the long strands.
It made her chest feel tight, and the heat inside her felt like it would erupt any second.
Just as quickly as this feeling came, it faded away since Zayne pulled his hand back and decided to leave the place.
Camelia followed him with a sigh but did not feel as optimistic about this place as before.
She could tell that many people were looking at her and judging her for what she was worth. Zayne somehow ignored all these looks, but Camelia felt hyper-aware of them.
Camelia had always been sensitive to people looking at her, even in her previous life.
She suddenly looked up to where the closest camera was, and Camelia was about to do something about it when Zayne acted and placed his hand on her eyes to hide them.
That made Camelia calm down since the pressure of that hand felt familiar to her. It was as if Zayne was doing this to calm her down.
"Don't pay attention to all this. It is just protocol. If you think that it is not there, it will help."
This advice was similar to the one she had received from Zayne in the past, and it suddenly calmed her turbulent heart.
'Ah, it's fine. I can ignore these people like I ignored the council before…but will that be fine?'
