I stretched as I got out of the bathroom, I dusted my body and I dried myself. The dinner was over and that was it. There was nothing else to it. I had to resume work and pray that I don't accidentally bump into Arthur.
"The office is a big place. How can that happen?" I asked myself as I nodded, I walked to the mirror to smile. "Mummy, who are you talking to?" Avalon asked as she walked in on me. She was fully dressed and prepared for school, even though her socks were straightened, and her hair looked like a train had just gone through it. I scoffed as I knelt down. I had my full body robe on.
"Mummy we can't be late and I made a new friend." Avalon said as she held my cheek. I smiled as I hugged her. "So what's her name? Stay on the bed while I dress up, will you?" I said to her as I was interested in what she had to say.
"Okay." Avalon wasn't just ready to tell me about her new friend, she was in character, she flipped her hair and smiled.
"Now I am worried." I said to her as I picked up my outfit. "No, you don't have to be. It's easy and simple. Emily, her name is Emily. And she is really nice." Avalon said as she moved her legs over the bed in sheer happiness.
"I am glad you made a friend, you know I have Aunty summer too." I said as I wore my trousers, it was a plain green pants that would match a lemon and green shirt.
"Yes and that's why I am telling you-" Avalon said in cheerful happiness. I could see her smile and how excited she was to tell me all the details of how they probably played swing or ran to the bus. Or whatever the things are that kids her age talk about.
"Avalon, let's make your hair okay?" My mother yelled out loud and she shook, Avalon jumped off the bed. "Well, we will continue." She said out loud. "She is scarier than you." She whispered while her little feet ran over the ground, I laughed.
I was ready, my outfit was looking sharp, my hair and then I could leave too. Just as I was about to pack my bags and not leave out my laptop like I did the last time-
"Who runs the world?"
Just as I was about to pack my laptop, my phone rang and I wasn't expecting any calls. Especially ones before eight am. I looked at my phone to know who the caller was but It was an unknown caller. I titled my head being skeptical, I massaged the side of my head to prevent myself from stressing, I decided to pick it up.
"Hello, Danielle speaking." I used my fancy high pitched tone to sound more professional, but I didn't get any reply or any response, all I heard was silence. I hung up and placed my phone on the make up table. "A prank call? Really smart." I shook my head and I adjusted myself. I smiled as I looked so different and so pretty. I stood up and decided that I had to leave for work. Avalon's school bus will be here anytime.
"Bye baby, be a good girl." I said as I grabbed the toast bread that I made, I kissed her on her forehead and I did the same to my mother. "Have a good day." I already booked the cab and I was ready to leave.
"Danielle." As soon as I walked into the office with my hot cup of coffee, my colleagues all welcomed me. "Hi, Janet." I said in a high pitch as I placed my bag on the table, while I sat down.
"Hi, I know you were at the dinner and it was something but we have a brief meeting this morning and we are to be there. So apparently the chairman is coming today and he will be handing over to his grandson who will be overseeing the head branch." Janet explained in a cherry tone, the thought that she will see the grandson made her imaginative fly out of this world like a rocket, she is a hopeless romantic and she can't be saved.
"I don't know." I kissed my teeth and bit my lips, I was in full skeptical mode.
"Whenever you change your mind. Remember it's just a brief meeting and it's by ten." She said as she went back to her seat. I decided to eat and calm myself down. I don't really need the meeting.
"Okay. Just let me know when it starts." I changed my mind. Maybe the new head will be a better man and I can get a promotion. "Yaaay." Janet said as she threw her hands in the air. We spent the next hour talking about the dinner and I didn't mention the little detail that happened. Janet went up to the bathroom while I was working on sorting my files for the week and arranging my schedule.
"Danielle, it's time for the meeting." She said while she peeped from the door, even though I couldn't see the rest of her body, I was sure that she was shaking her legs in excitement. "Oh okay." I replied to her as I stood up. She held my hands and we went to the hall. I saw Summer and Adam. We waved to each other and went to sit with them.
We were all talking when something caught my eye. I didn't expect this. In my excitement to see my friends, I was busy with work and arranging my files and gossiping that I really didn't think of why I saw Arthur yesterday but what made it worse was the fact that I saw him, right next to the chairman. And even after seeing him? Our eyes met.
