As soon as he turned to walk out of his office, I didn't even have time to utter a word. He had just walked out. "What do you mean in less than ten minutes?" I asked him but he was just quiet, he didn't say a word. He has his head in his phone, three seconds later we are downstairs and his car is waiting, we are at the back of his car.
"Where are we going?" I finally mustered up the courage to ask again. I was surprised. "As I said before, it's a meeting." He said in a cold tone. He had his head in his phone again and it was as though if she said another word the silence would be ruined. She gulped hard and stayed in the quiet.
The car ride was so quiet. I kept rubbing my fingers together trying to understand what was going on and maybe getting it all to make sense, all I did was give a review about a product and now we are here.
"Let's go." He says as he closes the car door. I gulped as I grabbed the files and his things.
I followed him immediately. I smiled and I pretended like it was all good. I walked after him so I can at least ask some questions so I don't look like a fool but I wasn't as fast, he was already talking to some men. All I did was stand and look.
"Let's go in." He said and I knew it was going to happen either way. Prepared or not- I had to do what I had to do.
"Welcome Mr. King." We were escorted to the main hall.
I watched as they welcomed him, it all happened so fast. The next thing that I knew I was right next to him when their presentation started.
"We are so glad that you honored our invite, so this is basically what the product is about and if you open the files that are I. In front of you, you will see all the details of the product, the mode of advert and how vast we predict it can sell. The cons and the pros, the other pitches and ideas segment that it has. This is a full proof plan and all it needs is its approval and or some changes. This is the third meeting on that product and we hope it can be better." The man in charge of the presentation said with cheerful happiness and with so much aura. It was undeniable. I paid attention and I took notes of the products and I had a lot to say but I didn't want to be pushy or too much.
"Mr. King? What do you think?" The man asked Arthur and I wish telepathy could work. All I would do is just tell him what he needs to say, the product as a whole and what I want to say. Plus the one that I said to him in the office. I was expecting his reply when I heard something else.
"I'll have to ask my assistant what she thinks." he turned to me. I wanted the ground to swallow me. I could feel beads of sweat gathering even if it was so cold in the room.
I gulped and hoped that my voice didn't disappear
"Uhm- well there is nothing much to say, just that I feel like not much attention has been paid to commercialize the products in the north-eastern region." I paused, I knew this was my time and I had the details. I wouldn't want to disappoint him or make him look bad, he brought me here and what I need to do is show him that I am good at my job and I can be fast on my feet. I occasionally looked at my files and the notes that I jotted. I addressed all that he talked about, it was as though I outshined him. I didn't care. I had a job and I like to show off and be the best.
"That's just my two cents." I said as I looked around. I was so invested in talking that I didn't realize that they were paying attention to me, even him.
"Two cents?" I heard a scoff and they all applauded. It was so funny and impressive. I didn't even know how to feel, he didn't look at me though.
"What do you have to say Mr. King?" one of the associates asked as he cleared his throat. He was trying so hard to intimate me but I wasn't in the mood, I wasn't even interested at all.
"I'm sure you heard all she said-" Arthur said without hesitation, he raised his head and he glared at the associate, he looked down immediately.
"Yes." He said in a cold shaken tone. He didn't like how Arthur reacted.
"That's enough." Arthur stood up and I did after him. I walked after him like a penguin that was waddling. I was so proud of myself. I waited for him to say something else,
Like a thank you or a you did well or something. I needed him to appreciate that I was there for him. Not in that weird kind of way but as his staff and employee. I didn't do anything stupid or stutter. Yet he didn't appreciate it. I was tired. I needed to go back to my phone and to work. Anything away from him.
We got back to the car and it was so silent, I almost heard the engines. I stayed at the edge and looked out the window. I was having my main character moment.
"I thought we were going to return to the office." I said to him as the door was opened by the staff.
"I didn't say a word in the car." He said and I realized that he was right. We were at a restaurant and right now I didn't even know what was next.
