Chapter 3 - The book

*bell ringing

Right after she left, the bell ringed and that means class is about to start. I forgot to take back my phone from her. I really hope she does not open my phone or else, she's gonna find my secret stash. I won't explain further what that is.

The classes were boring as usual. Just act like listening and you are fine. While the teacher is talking about music, I remember the book that sofia left in my table. I opened it.

There, I saw many handwriting of my dad.

(I know my dad's handwriting and this is his. This is really his! )

The book overall looks worn down and many notes are sticked to many pages. While there are no title or run down of what is the book's purpose, I can tell that this is his diary. The first thing I saw is his drawing of a creature called Vinelion. It has the looks of a lion, but it's mane is vines, whole body is green, and it's eyes are blue.

According to the book, these creatures lives in dense forests where it can easily hide their huge bodies. They also have poisonous bite where apparently it can kill several elephants if it's very hungry. While rare, these are said to be one of the guardians of forests around the world.

They are the size of a van, powerful muscles that can be used when hacking through their enemies or pursuing them. They do not confront their preys, instead, they ambush them. Staying still, and watching them.

Apparently, these creatures are secretly known as the cause for missing people in forests without any trace. Walk around deep into the forests and you may encounter these creatures. If you do, you are most likely going to die. And you will be another person missing.

Surprisingly, they are called "Forest executioners" as the tribes throw the sinners to them and be judged. If they survive, they are innocent. If not, they will die by either their powerful claws or poisoned bite. You can say that they are the cleaners of any corpses.

The tribes respect them and so do they. Both learned to coexist with one another. Vinelions understood that the tribesmen are friends and bring them food sometimes.

*Bells ringing

I closed the book when I heard the bells ringing. This meant it is lunch time.

(I was too engaged in this book! No wonder time flies fast.)

I quickly put the book in my bag and quickly grabbed my lunch.

(I didn't know dad has that. Well, the book is easy to understand as well. And I didn't know there was a creature like that in mythology or folklore.)

"Hey! Wait for me Lux!"

I looked back and saw sofia. I can easily spot her due to her blonde hair and red eyes. That long hair that's wavy, yeah she is sofia alright. She is known as one the beauties in school. And I agree. Her body that had grown to make other girls jealous of and what many guys likes.

I waited in silence and once she is close, I asked "Give me back my phone."

"Sorry about that." She apologized and handed my phone back.

"No problem." I said. Happy to get my phone back.

We chatted along the way, grab our lunch, and sat down somewhere where there are less people and talked.

"Did you listen to what I said?" She said pouting.

"Sorry. I was thinking about something." I said honestly.

"Hehe. I forgive you. But listen this time." She said happily.

I nodded and she started talking about what happened earlier in our classes.

I forgot to mention our relationship with each other. She is my childhood friend who I met in one the visits I went with my dad. Her dad and my dad are close friends with similar interests.

And so did we. We quickly became close friends until now. She was there to comfort me when dad disappeared. I didn't tell her that I was grateful then. But I will keep this with me for now.

With that, time passed again and it is time to go back to classroom and start classes again.
