Chapter 3 - Journey to the Mystic Acadamy

'September the 1st, finally!' my thoughts buzzed with excitement and nervousness as i packed my belongings into a worn, brown leather bag given to me by the carataker, I didn't have much, but it was everything I owned.

Entering the Acadamy and becoming a powerful mage has been my dream for as long as I can remember, so of course I was excited but the fact I had to leave my home, this orphanage, was beginning to sink in, I wouldn't be able to see many familiar faces from here for a very long time.

"I'm gonna miss this place. I hope they miss me too, who am I kidding? I'll probably forgotten after a few weeks"

Taking a deep breath I clutched the bag in my hands and walked out my room, heading outside.

The suns heat hit my skin as soon as I stepped outside. I could hear the chatter of the other people my age gather on the field with their own belonging in bags and rucksacks, i as well joined the crowd as the caretaker stood in front of us, ready to say her farewells, I assumed.

She looked at each one of us with a with a small smile before opening her mouth to speak.

"You've all been like my own children. I've cared for you, watched you grow, and now it's time for you to take your steps into a much much larger world. The path to becoming a mage won't be easy, it will be dangerous and full of challenges. But no matter what, lean on each other. Support one another through the highs and lows. And remember, you'll always have a place here, and my prayers will be with you" She took a deep breath before finishing off her farewell "I hope you all have your things with you, the transport will be here in around 10 minutes"

" Caretaker…Hic…"

"Miss Anna, I'll miss you"

As the caretaker finished her farewell speech, many around me began to cry, their emotions getting the better of them…. I'm no different though 'I won't cry, I won't cry', I barely managed to hold my tears, feeling them threaten to spill down my face.

Ten minutes later, the sound of galloping filled the air, I turned around, and so did the others, to see a single horse with 6 legs dragging along a long carriage. An old man dressed in a leather coat, with tight fitting trousers tucked into tall boots and leather gloves on his hands, clutched the reins of the horse firmly. A simple cap sat atop his head.

seeing this, the caretaker nodded to all of us.

We all turned to the carriage and walked to it, the old man stroked his grey beard slightly before hopping off his seat and strolling to the door of the carriage, and opening it wide.

"Alright, all of you in, there's enough space for all of you"

We nodded to the old man as he looked back at us and spoke in a gruff voice. We began entering one by one, but before I stepped inside, I wanted to say goodbye to the caretaker, whose also known as miss Anna.

I turned back to miss Anna and waved with a smile.

"I'll miss you caretaker, and when I return, I'll bring you something"

She chuckled slightly and nodded to me with a warm smile, I nodded and entered the carriage as well.

As the journey began, I glanced around the carriage. It was a open space, rectangular, with seats going along it, allowing all of us to take seats comfortably.

Chatter resounded amongst the group, talks of excitement and anticipation echoed around, I looked beside me too see kiran, his arms folded with serious expression on his face, his dark hair fell over his forehead. He was my roommate back at the orphanage, we didn't speak much. Why? Well he simply didn't speak much.

"Hey Kiran" I spoke to him, hoping to talk about the acadamy with him.

He turned to me "What do you want Zerith" he spoke, he sounded calm, but I could tell he was annoyed by the obvious glare.

"What do you think about the acadamy? Do you think you'll do good?"

"I don't know, I've never been there" He said before turning away to stare at the wall again.

"Haha I guess so" i chuckled awkwardly at his reply, before looking away from him 'he's got a point, but why does he have to be so… reserved? Also what's so good about staring at a wall'

"Heya Zerith, I'm so excited, I can't wait to make new friends!"

I jumped slightly at the loud cheerful voice, I looked to the other side of me too see Lyra, her brown hair sat on her shoulders, as her brown eyes looked at me with a curious gleam as she grinned with a toothy smile.

"Hey Lyra didn't see you there" I chuckled trying not to excite her, there wasn't much wrong with her, she was cute and all, but she spoke a bit too loud, she wasn't good for my ears.

"I'm sure you'll make a lot of friends"

"I know I will!" She chuckled "you're my friend also right?"she asked with a with a smirk bringing her face closer to mine.

I chuckled awkwardly seeing her face so close, before nodding "Yes Lyra we are friends, you ask me that almost every two da…"

"Yes! Zerith I accept, we are friends now"

She interrupted me with a happy smile.

"Yeah, we are…friends" i agreed forcing a strained smile as i turned away from her and looked at the wall 'I guess, looking at the wall is not so bad after all'
