Chapter: 5
Last time
"I greet my creator," Lilith said softly, her voice like a melody carried in the wind.
I smiled faintly. "As I greet you, Lilith."
Now
Lilith tilted her head, her eyes glowing with curiosity. I could tell she had a question, but she held it back, perhaps out of respect.
"Your name will be Lilith," I said.
"I see. Thank you, creator," she replied, bowing her head slightly.
"None of that," I said, shaking my head. "You will call me Victor, understood?"
"Yes, Victor," she answered, her tone soft but firm.
"Good."
I gestured for her to sit down. She complied, gracefully lowering herself onto the grass, and I began explaining my plans for the coming months.
"I see," she said after listening intently. "You intend to master your powers as much as possible, then leave Westeros. But where do you intend to go?"
"I'm caught between two places," I replied, rubbing my chin thoughtfully.
"Which are?" Lilith asked, her eyes sparkling with interest.
"I was originally planning to go to Essos for various reasons. However, Old Valyria has also come to mind. Both have their pros and cons."
Lilith nodded, encouraging me to continue. "And what are those pros and cons?"
"Essos," I began, "is a massive desert. That's a con. There are far too many people, which means I can't use my powers freely. It's also a massive slave bay. But, on the other hand, if I go far enough into the desert, no one will bother me. Plus, Daenerys will be in Essos for a while before coming to Westeros. So, there's that."
"And Valyria?" Lilith prompted.
I exhaled slowly. "Valyria... Pros: No human inhabitants, which means I can use my powers without anyone seeing. It's far away from any major countries, making it difficult for spies to get in or out. There's a vast supply of dragon eggs—destroyed or not, it doesn't matter with my abilities. The whole place is a treasure trove. And it's a massive island, or rather, a continent."
"And the cons?"
"The land is dead—literally and figuratively. It's overrun with stone men, and the atmosphere is filled with cursed ash. But honestly, I can fix the land with my powers. As for the stone men, they can be handled."
Lilith hummed, tapping her chin in thought. "Have you come to your decision, Victor?"
I nodded. "Yes, I have. But first, we'll make a pit stop in Essos for a while before heading to Valyria."
"Is it to meet Daenerys, the woman you mentioned?" she asked.
"No," I said with a slight smile. "I don't intend to meet her for a while. The pit stop is for Lily. I want her somewhere safe while I fix up Valyria."
"I see. A wise decision."
The sun was starting to sink below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the trees. I got up, dusting off my clothes, and Lilith followed suit. As I reached for the egg beside me, it suddenly released a pulse of energy, a sharp thrum vibrating through the air.
"Feisty ones, aren't you?" I muttered, placing the egg back into the bag before slinging it over my shoulder. I glanced at Lilith. "Could you shrink for me?"
Lilith nodded, and a soft, white light enveloped her form. When the light faded, she had shrunk to about the size of a small figurine, her wings shimmering like delicate leaves in the sun. She flared them briefly before fluttering up to my head, perching on top like a crown.
Her new form was elegant, almost ethereal. She retained the same adult features but had a graceful, miniature stature, her long hair flowing like fine threads of silk. Her wings, translucent and iridescent, resembled those of a dragonfly but more intricate, with swirling patterns etched into the surface. She hovered above me for a moment before settling on my head.
I chuckled. "Not bad. Now, let's go pick up Lily."
After retrieving Lily from her tutor, we returned home. The sun had completely set, and the soft glow of lanterns illuminated our path. Lily was in a cheerful mood, her bright energy contrasting with the quiet air of the evening. She had no idea what surprise awaited her.
As soon as we entered the house, Lily ran over to me, her eyes wide with excitement.
"Victor! Victor! Look what I made!" she chirped, holding up a drawing she had made during her lessons.
"That's amazing, Lily," I said, ruffling her hair. "But I've got something even cooler to show you."
Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as I gently lifted Lilith off my head and set her down on the table. Lilith waved shyly, her small form fluttering lightly as she introduced herself.
"Hello, Lily. My name is Lilith."
Lily's jaw dropped. "You're so tiny! Are you a fairy?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.
Lilith smiled. "You could say that."
Lily's eyes lit up with excitement as she leaned in closer, marveling at Lilith's wings and tiny form.
"Can I touch your wings? They're so pretty!" Lily asked eagerly.
Lilith chuckled softly. "Of course."
As Lily gently touched the tip of Lilith's wing, her face lit up in awe. The soft, magical hum that surrounded Lilith seemed to mesmerize her.
"She's amazing, Victor!" Lily exclaimed, her grin wide. "Is she going to live with us?"
"For now, yes," I replied. "Lilith is going to help me with some very important things. And she'll be around to keep an eye on you when I'm busy."
Lily bounced with joy, her happiness infectious.
Later that night, after putting Lily to bed, I sat at the window, staring out into the night. Tomorrow, the real work would begin. My powers had grown considerably, but I knew they were just the beginning. Lilith would help, but there was still much to do before we left Westeros.
The winds of change were blowing, and soon enough, the world would feel it.
