Chapter 7 - taking her home

I woke up to the sound of a loud alarm buzzing. I thought that was strange considering the fact that I never really relied on alarms to wake me up. I rubbed my eyes groggily, stretching to reach my phone before realizing Emily was still sleeping on my lap. "Oh my god..." I mumbled, a bit annoyed at the restricting position. Even the slightest movement could wake her. Wait but, could I even move at this point? She's been laying there in the same spot so long, my legs probably went numb. I was a bit mad at myself for being so careless and allowing us to doze off like this, it did feel relaxing, but now its just an inconvenience. My brain had already filtered out the sound of the blaring alarm, but then I looked in the direction of the noise and realized it wasn't coming from my phone, It was hers. I slowly and gently tried to raise my body, pushing off the couch with my arms and lifting my pelvis. But then she started to stir, so I stopped. I inhaled deeply.

"...Fuck it"

I pushed her off of me, not aggressively, but with enough force to get the job done. I quietly tip-toed away before looking back at her. She was somehow still asleep. "A heavy sleeper huh?" I thought as I turned off the alarm on her phone. I observed her for a bit, staring at her. "How could she look so unbothered? Sleeping through all of that could never be easy. Now that I think about it, she does look really peaceful sleeping, I could even say she looks at ease-"

"Why...are you staring at me..?"

"I..." I was genuinely caught off guard with that. What the fuck do I say to that? I wasn't being weird, but not like I could just say that and she would buy it.

"I was waiting for you to get up."

"Yea like I'll buy that."

"You're right, I was planning on killing you in your sleep."

"Ha Ha, sooo funny." She said in a sarcastic tone.

"Anyway, I smell like absolute shit, and where's my phone?"

"Tsk tsk tsk, you young people and your obsessions with phones." I said as I playfully waved my finger, reluctantly handing her phone to her. She snatched it out of my hands.

"Yea yea whatever you say unc." She joked casually before opening her phone, her expression changed it slightly.

"Damn... 56 missed calls? Jeez mom..."

"Ooo buddy you're done for, say goodbye to that laptop of yours~" I teased, but she didn't seem to be in the mood, she was a bit... anxious? I thought she said it should be fine.

"Right.. Guess I gotta go.."

"Right." Honestly I couldn't tell if I actually cared about her having to go, but it's not like I wasn't expecting this; this is exactly what I thought would happen.

"So you want a ride or what?"

"Yea but lemme freshen up first, I smell disgusting."

"Fair enough. Don't take too long though, I wanna take a bath too." I showed her to the bathroom then went back to my room to wait for her to finish taking a shower.

After a while, I began to zone out; the faint sound of water running from the shower in the back of my mind. "Why is she taking this long?" I wondered to myself. Why would she need to be in the shower for so long? The max should be like 20 minutes, but it's been almost an hour. I could hear the drowned out sound of her singing, completely immersed in her little shower-time concert. I can't with her. I continued to get lost in my thought then finally, after what felt like a millennia, the shower turned off.

"I'm coming out now!" she yelled, as if it wasn't already obvious. I didn't reply, I just waited impatiently for her to get out of the shower. After a little while, she came out of the bathroom, wearing my towel. The audacity of this girl is insane.

"Emily, what the hell are you doing wrapped up in MY towel?"

"Um, you literally have two towels."

"Yea but you didn't ask."

"Yea but you didn't offer?"

"You should've waited for me to do that then."

"Fine whatever."

I wasn't upset with her, far from actually. It just felt a bit strange to have someone else in my house after all those consecutive years of being alone plus the last time i washed those towels was a week ago but i guess I'll keep that to myself. I found it hard to get rid of my stingy mindset, after all, it's been so long since I've had to share anything, I kind of got used to not doing so.

"Anyway, go get changed." I said dismissively.

"Into? Change into what clothes?"

I actually didn't think about that. She had absolutely zero clothes here.

"I don't fucking know...What you had on before?"

"No way. It's stinky, sweaty, gross and uncomfortable. I can't go home in that at all."

"....You're planning on wearing one of my shirts aren't you."

"Oh yeah, you know it."

"Yeahhhhh no."

"Wha- why not?"

"Because I don't want you to." I should have just washed her clothes in the washer while she was showering how did I overlook that.

"Hey that's no fair! What am I supposed to wear then?"

"Ughhhhhh... bottom left draw, there's some clean shirts there." I said with an annoyed sigh as I pointed to my wardrobe that is well past it's best days. This whole situation is as weird as it is amusing, but at least she's finally leaving so I can get some peace of mind and think about this whole situation. I watched her as she took one of my shirts and went to go put it on.

"So can I keep the shirt or-"

"No."

"Jeez, okay. I'll make sure to return it, freshly washed."

Great, now she had an excuse to come back. Not that I minded that much. It was whatever I guess. After taking a warm bath and eating a sad bag of chips, we headed to the car to drop her home.

"So, where do you live?"

"Eugh... Why'd you say it so creepily?"

"I'm literally driving you home right now."

She giggled softly, and I couldn't help but laugh a bit, her laugh was contagious. After a few minutes of conversation and her giving me directions, we finally reached about a few minutes away from her house.

"Okay, stop right here."

"Here? Why?"

"Obviously cause I'm gonna walk the rest of the way there?"

As she said that, I suddenly remembered that me driving her home like this, after her spending the night over at my house isn't really a good look on my end. I pulled over and allowed her to get out of the car.

"Well, it was fun while it lasted."

"Yeah."

"I'll give you your shirt back, promise! oh and Daniel, don't kill yourself you are now someone i hold dear to myself! " She said while looking back and smiling brightly she caught me off guard.

"sure." I gave a short reply I didn't know what to say i was at a loss of words.

Well, there she goes. I guess it's time to head home now.
