Chapter 17 - HER NEW POSITION

ISABELLE

I stepped out of my sleek, new car, my eyes gleaming with pride. The sound of whoops and whistles filled the air as my colleagues gathered around, admiring my new ride.

I smiled, feeling like a queen, and walked towards the firm's entrance. The moment I stepped inside, a chorus of congratulations erupted. My colleagues swarmed around me, shaking my hand and patting my back.

"Congratulations on your wedding, Isabelle!" someone exclaimed and the rest followed with cheers.

"And your new position as Vice Chairman!" another added.

I beamed, feeling grateful for the recognition. But amidst the congratulations, I caught snippets of whispered conversations.

"Don't you think it's weird, she got promoted so quickly," someone murmured.

"I know, right? She's not even qualified for the position."

My smile faltered for a moment, but I pushed on, determined not to let the haters bring me down.

As I made my way to my new office, I met the ex-Vice Chairman, by the door Mrs. Roberto.." Her face was twisted in a scowl.

"Congratulations, Isabelle," she spat, her voice dripping with venom.

"I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job... destroying the firm." she let out, yes the both of us haven't been on good terms for long. I also found out how she keeps helping the rich to step on the poor, even though she calls herself a lawyer she is the worst anyone could see.

I had purposely taken her position to kick her out of the place,

"Congratulations on getting transferred also, hope you do a nice job there," I replied.

"And hope you get fired soon," she added. I raised an eyebrow, unfazed by the woman's hatred.

"Thank you, Mrs. Roberto. I will do my best to excel in my new role."

She snorted. "You will never succeed. You are just a puppet, and everyone knows it."

I smiled sweetly. "Well, I am looking forward to proving you wrong. Have a nice day, Mrs. Roberto."

With that, I walked into my new office, leaving her seething with anger.

The moment I stepped inside, I was startled by the sound of a loud, sudden noise.

I spun around my heart racing, and saw my best friend, Camilla, standing behind me, a huge smile on her face.

"Surprise!" Camilla exclaimed, she held my new title and had my name in a golden template.

My eyes widened as I took in the sight of it, and then my eyes met with the Chairman of the firm.

"Congratulations, Isabelle, on your well-deserved promotion," He said, shaking my hand, but I could feel the anger in it.

I beamed, feeling overwhelmed with gratitude and happiness ignoring the bad looks.

This was just the beginning of my new journey, and I was ready to take on whatever challenges came my way.

"Go, girl! I know you are going higher!" Camilla winked her eyes and placed it on my table.

After a few more minutes of congratulations, Everyone went back to their position, and sat back in my seat.

I sat confidently, ready to tackle my new position. I decided to proceed with one of my pending cases since the old woman's case was still on hold.

The detective I had hired to investigate had yet to uncover any new leads.

But as I checked the system, I was stunned to discover that none of my pending cases were listed under my name. I checked again, thinking it must be some kind of mistake, but everything was blank.

"What the heck is going on?" I thought, taking a deep breath. I tried to call the chairman, but he refused to answer my call.

I knew he wasn't happy with me, especially since he had tried to fire me. But Lorenzo had somehow managed to intervene, handing over his shares.

I took another deep breath and walked out of my office, making my way to his office. As I entered, his assistant looked up to greet me.

"Welcome, Vice Chairman—"

I didn't wait for him to finish before walking into his office. Inside, I was met with a lady in his office, "Good day Vice Chairman." She greeted me and I just snorted at this woman with a fake smile plastered on her face.

"Mrs. Matteo," Chairman said, his voice smooth, "I see you are as eager as ever. However, I must say, bursting into my office is not exactly the most… tactful approach."

I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.

"I'm not here to make friends. I am here to get answers. Why are my pending cases no longer under my name?"

His expression turned bland, and he gestured at the woman, who quietly exited the room still having that irritating smile.

"That is a rude way of talking to me, Ms Matteo.."

"Well, I wouldn't be rude if things were just done accordingly," I said, my tone firm.

The Chairman smirked. "For someone who had to pull strings to get the new position you have now, don't you think you're becoming too proud?"

I raised an eyebrow, wow so this is what has been his thought all these while.

"Yeah, I am proud. But the whole thing was just a matter of my husband transferring his shares to me, which led to me taking over the Vice Chairman position instead of her."

The Chairman slammed his hand on the chair, his face reddening. "You don't get it, do you? She worked for it."

I smirked. "Yes, she did, but it was by trying to prove a well-known criminal right and making the innocent ones suffer for it."

The Chairman's expression turned cold. "Isabella, if I were you, I wouldn't be saying this now," he growled and I just smirked.

"Are you annoyed that you wouldn't be getting your bed warm anymore since she has been transferred?"

"Isabelle!" he yelled, my hands placed on my waist and I snickered at him.

He tried controlling himself and his gust clenched hard, "Regarding your pending cases, they have all been transferred to Emilio. He will handle them from now on. You are only to handle VIP cases and no longer the mass cases."

My eyes widened in shock. "Excuse me? I became a prosecutor for the masses, not for VIP clients." I argued.

The Chairman shrugged. "But your husband requested that. You should talk to him when you get home, then."

He let out and sat back on his seat with a satisfied smirk, he continued tapping on his laptop.

"Excuse me? I don't want the VIP client but the fucking masses I ont fight foe the right of the oppressors," he then pulled out files throwing them to me.

"What is this?" I asked.

"Well, it's Domenico Savino. The police have filed charges against the individual who trespassed on his property and stole his golden statue. As the prosecutor, you'll be handling the case and representing the state in court."

"Excuse me?" I asked in shock, "I get that I work for the state but that doesn't make me want to prosecute someone who I am pretty sure was lied to," I let out then he scuffed.

"You wanted to be a vice chairman so deal with it and don't make the government see wrong in our firm."
