Chapter 10 - Review of Abilities(so far)

With it now being Christmas break Deon had some free time and some space to think he once again summons her and Mercury stood calmly before Deon, her presence both grounding and inspiring. For months, she had been training him, guiding him through each phase of mastering his unique powers. Today was the culmination of all their hard work. Deon had grown from an unsure teenager into a confident, powerful Spider-Man with abilities far beyond what he had ever imagined.

"Deon," Mercury began, her voice steady but encouraging, "let's review your abilities. Mastery isn't just about strength; it's about understanding how and when to use each skill. You've come far, but now it's time to refine every detail."

Deon nodded, eager to begin. Mercury raised her hand, and one by one, she listed his abilities, ensuring Deon fully grasped their potential.

Copy & Paste

Deon had developed the remarkable ability to copy and store both objects and living beings into a pocket dimension—a space where time stood still. With a simple thought, he could summon them back in the exact condition they were in when stored.

"You've demonstrated impressive control over this ability," Mercury said, her eyes focused on Deon. "But remember, the real strength lies in how you use it strategically. You can store equipment, allies, even dangerous objects during battle, but the key is knowing when to pull them out."

Deon thought back to a recent fight, where he had hidden a broken web-shooter mid-battle, only to retrieve it fully repaired moments later. He smiled, realizing how versatile the ability had become.

Clockwork

Time manipulation was arguably Deon's most complex ability. He could create spheres of time distortion, where time would either freeze, slow, or rewind. It was a power that required immense focus and precision.

"You've mastered the delicate balance of manipulating time," Mercury said with pride. "But remember, the larger the sphere, the more energy it drains and the shorter the effect lasts. Use it in small bursts to control key moments in battle. Time is your most valuable weapon, but it's also your greatest responsibility."

Deon nodded, recalling the feeling of pausing time to save a group of civilians from falling debris, then rewinding the moment to fix the damage entirely. The ability gave him a godlike edge, but Mercury's words echoed in his mind: with great power comes great responsibility.

Peak Human Condition

Physically, Deon was at the peak of human potential. His strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance had all been enhanced far beyond normal limits. He could outrun vehicles, lift heavy debris, and react to danger before most people could even process it.

"Your physical abilities are exceptional," Mercury said. "But don't get comfortable. Always push your limits, because the stronger you become, the greater the challenges you'll face. Never stop training."

Deon had already experienced what it meant to push his body to the brink during patrols, realizing that even with peak human condition, there was always room to grow.

Psychokinesis

Deon had also mastered psychokinesis—the ability to lift, move, and manipulate objects with his mind. He could control multiple objects at once, even using them as shields or weapons in battle.

"You've gained incredible control over your telekinetic abilities," Mercury acknowledged. "But the true strength of psychokinesis lies in finesse. The more you focus on precision, the more versatile this power becomes."

Deon had begun to see how psychokinesis could be used not just in combat but in everyday hero work—rescuing civilians from dangerous situations or lifting obstacles without putting anyone in harm's way.

Flight

Flight was perhaps Deon's most liberating ability. At first, he had struggled with the mechanics, finding it difficult to balance flight with his natural spider-based web-swinging. But now, he had mastered the art of integrating both, flying high above the city one moment and swinging between skyscrapers the next.

"You've become one with the sky," Mercury said. "Combine flight with your other abilities—mobility is your greatest asset. In the air, you're untouchable."

Deon grinned, remembering the thrill of soaring over New York City, his web-swinging enhanced by the freedom of flight. He was no longer bound by gravity, and that alone made him a more unpredictable force in combat.

New Spider Powers

Mercury turned to address the unique enhancements Deon had developed as part of his identity as Spider-Man. These powers, combined with his other abilities, made him a force to be reckoned with.

Enhanced Agility and Reflexes: His spider powers amplified his already heightened agility, allowing him to perform complex acrobatics, dodge attacks with ease, and react to danger faster than any superhuman could.

"Your movements are fluid and precise," Mercury observed. "Every muscle in your body works in perfect sync. This agility makes you elusive in combat, but don't forget—it also makes you a better protector."

Deon had learned that in battle, speed and reflexes were often more important than brute strength. His agility allowed him to evade attacks and find openings where none seemed to exist.

Wall-Crawling: The ability to cling to and crawl along walls was a fundamental part of being Spider-Man, and Deon had perfected it. No surface was too slick or vertical.

"You've mastered this skill, but don't underestimate its value," Mercury reminded him. "In combat, positioning is everything. Use the environment to your advantage."

Deon had begun to use his wall-crawling creatively, sneaking up on enemies from above or hanging from ceilings to ambush unsuspecting foes. It was one of his most versatile abilities, perfect for stealth or escape.

Venom Blast: His most powerful offensive ability, the Venom Blast was a bio-electric shock that could incapacitate enemies or disrupt electronics. It was the ace up his sleeve in every fight.

"Your Venom Blast is your most powerful tool, but don't rely on it too much," Mercury warned. "It's effective, but it drains you. Use it when the situation calls for a finishing blow or when you need to disable technology."

Deon had grown to respect the Venom Blast's raw power. It had saved his life in countless battles, but he knew that overuse could leave him vulnerable. Now, he deployed it strategically, ensuring maximum impact when needed.

Camouflage: Deon had learned to blend into his surroundings, becoming invisible for short periods. It was perfect for stealth missions, allowing him to slip past enemies or set up surprise attacks.

"Your camouflage makes you the ultimate ghost," Mercury commented. "In stealth, you are untouchable. But be careful—stay aware of your surroundings, because once you're exposed, the element of surprise is gone."

Deon had used camouflage to infiltrate enemy bases, escape from tight situations, and even evade powerful foes. It was his ticket to gaining the upper hand without drawing attention.

As Mercury finished the review, she placed a hand on Deon's shoulder. "You've come so far, Deon. You are a hero now, in every sense of the word. But never stop growing. There are always new challenges ahead, and you will need to rise to meet them."

Deon looked at her, feeling both proud and humbled. "I'll keep training, Mercury. I won't let you down."

Mercury smiled. "You haven't. Now go—protect this city. It needs you more than ever."

With that, Deon took a deep breath, feeling the weight of his powers, his responsibility, and his readiness. He wasn't just Spider-Man anymore. He was something more. And with Mercury's guidance, he knew he was ready for whatever came next.
